Well I assume there are enough delegates that Obama can win to get the lock but I haven't really researched that so today MIGHT BE the day that Hillary has to shut up for 4 years.

Nah, he still needs 30 1/2 delegates to secure the nomination.

Go back to your respective caves, everyone.

Which he will get probably tomorrow from all the remaining undeclared superdelegates, plus the ones that will abandon Hillary's sinking ship of a campaign, plus whatever he wins from Montana and South Dakota today...

The Michigan and Florida delegates were ruled by the democratic national convention to be worth half a delegate in that controversy and debate surrounding that entire fiasco, if you haven't been keeping up. But otherwise it looks like they only break out in even delegates, so he needs like 31.

I liked the 'cutting a person in half' idea SO much more. ;D

Umm... Bush won the popular vote AND electoral vote in the last election.

2000, on the other hand...

What? I thought Kerry Won but conceded before it was known. I mean, seriously, just look back at those debates, Bush is all sweaty and stuttering!

Oh, thank Xenu. *relieved sigh*

I mean, I thought Obama was gonna win the nomination, but there was always that worrying what would happen if Clinton got the spot. It's good to get that over with.

If Clinton had gotten nominated, either she wouldn't have gotten elected or she would have. I don't know which would have been worse. Probably the second one. I think I actually like McCain better than her.

Finally! So glad this is over. I just wish Hillary would make her concession final so we don't have to think about her anymore.

OK, now for running mate speculation: I hope Obama doesn't pick Hillary. I could see her having him killed after the election so she becomes president. You heard it here first, kids.

I hope he does pick a woman, though, because that might mollify the people who cry sexism just because people don't trust Hillary. Kathleen Sebelius or Janet Napolitano might be good choices. Or he could pick someone from a swing state, like Tim Kaine from Virginia or Bill Nelson from Florida. Especially Nelson. Elder statesman of the Democratic party, former astronaut, popular in an important swing state...

I'd still like to see Wesley Clark get the nod, though. I liked him in 2004, and it'd be nice to see him back in the national spotlight.

Obama's views on everything are contrary to mine. He basically supports gay marriage, while I, as a Christian, believe that gay marriage is wrong.

If you ask me, that shouldn't matter. The First Amendment clearly defines a separation between church and state. Famously, it doesn't actually use those exact words, but the clause against establishment of religion makes it pretty clear. The government has no business with marriage in the first place and I think it should be abolished from the law completely. (I don't mean that we should ban marriage, but rather legal recognition of it.) That proposal is much too radical for any candidates to dare to endorse it, though, especially since the public would probably misunderstand the proposal. Plenty of similar epic misunderstandings have happened in the past. (For instance, the law that passed in 2006 that "bans" online gambling barely did anything, and yet the whole online gaming industry here dried up because of it...)

Moreover, I never liked the "X is wrong, so X should be illegal" mentality, and I always argue vociferously against it. We are not a Christian nation; you cannot apply Christian laws to all of us. You should be striving for laws that are best for everybody, not laws that are best for you and screw over everybody else.

As for a political candidate's religious views: can anybody tell me why they even matter? Whether a candidate is the most devout of Christians or the most fanatical atheist is of no importance to me as long as they don't try to put their religion into the law, which they should not be doing in the first place. Now, Huckabee does want to put his religion into the law -- in fact, into the Constitution -- and that bothers me...

When did you turn liberal, Teff?

I knew it'd happen eventually.

Also, did you meet Bush at the Furman commencement?

We were talking about this in study hall today. Some guys were flipping out because we told them Obama was elected president and somehow it got off into a discussion about how Obama looks funny and how many racists there are in my backwater redneck hole.

Then it veered off into chasing birds, drugs, the difference between hurricanes and tsunamis, and going to prison.

That's something I've been thinking about. Obama really didn't have to do anything to become Senator. His republican opponent had to drop out. Then Alan Keyes had to carpetbag to Illinois from Maryland to run against him.
