... Well, duh ...
The question is, does that mean we're causing the climate to change?

I was talking about this. I don't know why CO2 came into play.

Around the time you said Global Warming was natural.

Because it has EVERYTHING TO DO with CO2.

Your lack of knowledge about a subject which you pretend to know about disgusts me.

Global Warming does not have everything to do with CO2. It has to do with climate change, which has little to do with CO2.

"Everything to do with X" is an expression.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas, a major contributor that we can control. So yes. It has to do with Global Warming.

Let me cut to the chase here:

There is undeniably an increase in CO2. But is that to blame that for climate change?

CO2 is dwarfed in "influence" on climate change by a lot of things (methane, water vapor, CFCs, HCFCs, ...)

That's precisely what's still up for debate. The short answer is "yes, sort of". The long answer is "not exactly".

This all is kind of off-topic. I don't think human-induced climate change could end the world... surely if it turns out that we're having an adverse effect on the climate, we'd stop it before it got to that point. That doesn't mean that we can't do significant harm... indeed, we've done tons of harm to our environment already, just not necessarily harm via global climate change. But there's a big difference between harming the environment and ending the world.

I'm just gonna cut in and say that ozone depletion has nothing to do with global warming.

Back to the apocalypse. In 2012 everything will explode for no reason whatsoever.

My guess? Well, my guess doesn't matter. There's no way anyone can predict when the world will end. I mean, when I see someone guessing about when the world will end, that person is usually sitting on a sidewalk with a cardboard sign.

You're right, but a lot of CFCs and HCFCs also perform roles as "greenhouse gases" and are a lot more effective at trapping heat per molecule than CO2 or Methane..

Sweeet...
Is it going to be a series of explosions, or just one big BOOM?

Honestly, I don't think we have to worry about the apocalypse for a while. Oh, sure, there's a remote chance that someone will push "the button" and we'll nuke ourselves off the planet, but I doubt it.

Well, that sucks.
We won't be able to see it.
I'd rather see this wave of kaboom sweep across the universe.
Oh well.

Ugh, I like to ignore these kind of prophecies. The world will end eventually, but it won't happen when we think it will. So worrying about it is just wasting time.

However, loved that movie Armageddon. Despite how much of Ben Affleck is in it.

"Ever hear of Evel Knievel?"
"No, I never saw Star Wars."

BEST LINE EVER.

Also, you're probably better off not listening to those prophecies. Every decade has been the last one. Every generation will bring about the end of the world.
There's nothing one can do to stop the end of the world, no point in worrying about it.

Well, today I had a lecturer tell me that if people keep eating and stuff at the rate they are, human beings could go extinct in our lifetime. He even used those words "in our lifetime".
Aside from the fact that this statement is rediculous (how could we go extinct if it's in our lifetime, so we're still alive), it gave everyone a good laugh. I think the guy's credibility has gone down a fair bit.

So we decided to build an ark for when the flood rises, with air conditioning (to stop that nasty global warming thing). We also have to inject ourselves with chlorophyll so we can photosynthesise and don't have to eat.
So you see? The problem of armageddon is solved.

I don't think we're in the same country, so do you want to move closer to, or further away from me?
I didn't quite understand.

Does wikipedia have a comprehensive list of end of world prophecies?

Doesn't seem so, or it would be here, probably.

Here's a list of (religious (which apparently just means Christian)) end of the world predictions that didn't happen. Does that count?

The eschatology page has a bunch of 'see also' links to pages like that.
