<Ok, since they were outdated and awhile back I was encouraged to make a new one, I decided to now do so. Why? Because something historic has happened in the state that I live in.

California lifts gay marriage ban (BBC)
Top California court supports gay marriage (Reuters)

I'll start with my belief, as a gay woman, I'm happy with the overturning of the law, as I would love to marry my partner. However, I'm completely in support of putting the issue on the ballot and letting the people of California vote on it first before our Government/Court decides to yay or nay it. I'm not a big fan of overturning the will of the people (even if I think it's wrong and that my sexuality shouldn't be a political issue and blah blah blah). So yeah, that's the brief overview of my opinion.>

_______________________________________________________________________________________

How 'bout you? I've noticed the majority of this forum to be gay friendly, so this should remain a nice thread, but I won't be surprised if we get a little deeper into it. I hope nobody gets offended, but be open minded that controversy may happen. I want this to be a place where you can be free to have your opinions, and debate them without punching the computer.

- Ultimately, this thread is to talk about the breaking news, or anything about homosexuality.
- You can talk about bisexuality too, I don't really mind. (Try not to make it TOO straight... haha)
- You are ALLOWED to speak AGAINST homosexuality if you wish, but don't expect everybody to be on your side about it. ;)

Have fun~

Most of the people that have referred to homosexuality as an abomination have left, but there used to be more.

I noticed that when I searched 'homosexuality', saw a lot of abomination talk. But yeah, you're right, a lot of those people aren't here anymore.

I'm fine with homosexuality. I'd just like it if people could decide on who they'd like to be with without some law getting in the way of things. Love for somebody shouldn't be filtered.

I'm with you 100% on that. *Mwah on Disk*

I'm fine with multi-partner pairings too. As long as they're of the appropriate mature age, of course...

If I weren't straight, I'd be so totally gay.

But I guess that's self-evident, isn't it?

I'm bisexual myself, and so I'm of course for LGBT rights of any kind.

California is a giant step in the right direction.

See, I think you're awesome. Why do you have a bad rep with people? :O I just don't get it!

Thanks. I think it's mostly due to things I've said in the past, or the bluntness with which I address some things. I shudder to look at my older posts.

Anyway, when Obama gets elected it'll probably put pressure on more states to favor LGBT rights as well. So that's good.

Being bi myself, and a slash fangirl [NOT THE GUITARIST!], I have zero problems with gay folk.
My dad would probably have something else to say.

Aw, that's too bad. Well. For the record, I think you're awesome as you are now. And soon, hopefully, everybody will learn too. Mwahahaha...

This is a "what kind of gay are you?" test for TFE.

I'm actually apathetic about gay rights. I find my own life too complicated to care about what/who others do. If people are happy and they're not bugging me or hurting someone else, why should I care?
Is that considered tolerance?

Sounds good in my book! Even in the literal sense it sounds like a meshed together view of the two dictionary definitions of tolerance:

1. the acceptance of the differing views of other people, e.g. in religious or political matters, and fairness toward the people who hold these different views
2. the act of putting up with somebody or something irritating or otherwise unpleasant

Being intolerant would involve disliking/hating something AND acting on it.

So... what kind of gay am I?

Apparently, the non-militant type.

I've been called a bigot for this belief.
Apparently, there are groups of people on this planet that think that if you're not (100%) with them, you're against them.

Pfft. In my opinion, those types of people are extremists and don't even know what they're talking about. Don't pay any attention to them, they give gay rights a bad name.

If everybody had your attitude of "I don't care, let people do what they want..." There would be NO bans against gay marriage anywhere because nobody would go out of their way to place up the bans in the first place. DUH!

The "worry about your life first" attitude used to be the one that I heard at my dad's church. Unfortunately, it appears that they have their lives in order, because they seem to have gone from "preaching what we're for" back to "preaching what we're against."

Yeah. I don't like that. For me, it seems to kill the message that we're not supposed to judge people, only God can, yet we can't seem to let go of the negatives.

I mean, come on, what the heck is the appeal to chain yourself to a ton of restrictions that do nothing but make you feel guilty for the rest of your life? Leave it in God's hands. It's not like the homosexuals are gonna drag you down with them...

Unless it really is contagious. Hmm... *rub chin*

This is a group that also acts like they feel that the act of drinking a beer is equivalent to shooting up a schoolyard.

My church seems to be more along the lines of "take care of your own life, help out your fellow man, and spread the word of God to all (as opposed to "damn those who are not doing the things you feel are appropriate").

Beer is allowed. In fact when my preacher was in seminary, he said a sentiment among the students was that the Word was best studied with the Bible in one hand and a pint in the other.

How can people NOT have a sense of humor when groups like this exist?

Most of our users who places a HEAVY faith in a literal interpretation of the Bible and other such things have moved on from the forum. There are still people here who do that, but it's not as big as it used to be.

I'm personally apathetic most times to gay rights (doesn't really affect me either way, like StrongRad), but if I had to vote for or against them (like for or against gay marriage), I'd vote for. I see no reason to deny people certain rights or privileges simply on the basis of their sexual orientation.

I live in Massachusetts so it's kind of a moot point what I think; I wouldn't be voting on a gay marriage law anyway since it's already legal here. ;)
