One interesting aspect of the article is that, according to their source, these are not the weapons the US were looking for, but appear to be a leftover cashe from before the first Gulf War.

However, the fact that they were manufactured before 1991 is utterly irrelevant in answering the question of whether Saddam was complying with Resolution 1441.

I already knew this. That is why I go to multiple sources.

That's a good policy.

Terrorist cell found in Miami

Breaking news on CNN.

http://www.cnn.com/

Radical muslim group, planning on bombing targets such as the Sears Tower.

Scary thing is it sounds like these guys were some of the dumb ones. Wore black clothing all the time, stood guard to the house, ran exercises at night...

Glad we caught them, don't get me wrong, but I'm sure there are other groups in the US who do a better job of blending in.

These guys didn't even have weapons or explosives... I think we shoulda waited a little longer before moving in on them. Maybe we could see if they were connected with anyone (of course, the "Al Qaeda operative" they contacted was an FBI person, but still..).

You're right about the "dumb guys" thing.. These guys were like the Gomer Pyles of Al Qaeda. I just see these guys stumbling around their house, bumping into stuff.. "Gahhh-leee! Reckon we oughta blow somethin' up before Bin Laden gets back?" Or, howsabouts a Homsar militant Islamic? "DUUUuhhhhH!! JIHAHAHAHAHAHAHD!".

Oh well, glad we caught them before they could actually do any harm.

Sort of reminds me of a certain sect of ancient Japanese assassins.

You have to really think about what they are really mad about though. In ever strategist text I've ever read, if you confront someone who is standing against you, you need to know first before swinging blindly.

I assume they are mad because we've been over there and have been cramping their style for x amount of years. I think anyone would be thoroughly mad after something like that. So, solution, leave them alone. Clean up the quagmire in Iraq, have Bush locked in the Hague for war crimes, convert to sugar ethanol (eliminating the oil juggernaut), and you'd have the situation clear.

Done. Where's my medal?

I realize you were joking towards the end of your post, but are you serious about locking Bush up as a war criminal?

The only thing I was joking about the medal, but that's it. Lock up Bush. Yeah, definitely... If I want to be nice to him. By using the faith based initiative, he broke the paragraph 1, article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli. By using a "faith based initiative" and saying that God is telling him what to do; he broke the line in the Treaty that said:

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation"

Bush is in direct violation of that treaty. And numerous other things. I have them listed, I will get them for you later.

Thankfully Rosie won't be here to screw up me trying to make a point.

Actually, you might want to reevaluate that. While I myself did not agree with the invasion of Iraq, it is also very clear that Bush's motives were NOT based on religion. It was based on the faulty belief that Iraq was manufacturing chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Unless, of course, you can cite any official documentation to substantiate your claim.

To move in a slightly different direction: Looks like Iran is moving towards the right direction.

If we can get Iran to budge on stuff, shouldn't that give us a wee bit more leverage on some of the more hardline militants? I know it's not gonna stop all the terrorist attacks in Iraq, but shouldn't, at least a few, militants in Iraq go "Hey, Iran is dealing with the US, maybe the White Satan isn't so bad." ?

Something tells me that they'd only condemn Iran for going over to the enemy's side - if this pomp and circumstance is genuine, of course. Especially keeping in mind that Iran was a one-time adversary of Iraq (albeit the secularist Saddam Iraq).

And the fact that Iran isn't an Arab country - which often goes a long way to determining Arab attitude towards any particular event. Example: the Arab uprise against the occupation of Palestine and Iraq, versus the curious silence from them when it came to the ethnic cleansing of Bosnian Muslims and the occupation of Chechnya.)

Looks like Russia's getting into the game now, too. It seems that, slowly, the international community is getting fed up with terror.

Quote:
"This atrocious act of terrorism which is in violation of all concepts of religion, humanity and honor mirrors how dangerous terrorism encountered by Iraq in particular and by the whole world in general is, which makes imperative that efforts of the international community be mobilized to uproot this cancer which has killed thousands of innocent people."

Of course, those are just words, but still, you can't want to be on the recieving end. The first Gulf War proved what an international coalition can do. Maybe we have a chance of making this thing stick after all.

Another terror plot foiled. This time in New York.

Someone must be doing something right in Homeland Security.
