I'll probably hold up on the junk food at school... I've been wasting so much money on Pepsi and M&M's, it's severely cutting into my video-game-buying funds. So it'll work both ways.

What about you guys?

(No need to post here if, you know, you're not giving anything up...)

Well, I'm not listening to any explicit music, however awesome it is. That will bring me closer to God.

I dosen't swear. I gives up using bad grammar. "F***! Who gives a f*** about f***** grammar!"

Anyhoo. Lent. I gave up explicit songs. That will get me closer to God.

It follows the old "garbage in, garbage out" idea. If you keep away from the general (or more extreme) filth, you'll find that you start to think less along the lines of what those songs want you to, if that makes sense.

That double post was my fault, not your's... I merged two threads about Lent together... Your posts just happened to line up.

My fault, not your's.

A lot of people who've posted here kinda miss the point of Lent... It's not just giving up something.. It's going without something you enjoy and do on a regular basis. That's an important thing... I mean, how much of a sacrifice is it if you don't do something you don't do anyway?

Yeah, new rule: if you don't understand what Lent is about, don't say you're giving something up.

Seriously, you can do stuff like pray more, something as simple as that.

Is toastpaint a good word to use now?

I am going to try to pray more too. And avoid lustful situations.

You know you just quoted something I post over a year ago?

Day 2 and I swore yesterday so that is done. Thank God I have a back-up plan, chocolate.

this was a strange coincidence. It was about the first day of lent that I decided to give up porn and lust (for good this time) and I didn't even remember about lent.

Day Two Lent Update: I still have kept my promise, and I haven't drunken (dranken, dranked, drunked) any soda. The temptation is always there, as I am a Diet Mountain Dew connoisseur. How can you be a connoisseur of a single flavor of soda, especially when considering you can't tell the difference between its diet and regular forms? I don't know.

I gave up chocolate.

One year I tried to give up soda, but there was no way that was happening.

I never actually gave up anything for Lent when I celebrated it. I tried to do something good everyday instead. I mean, I seriously doubt God cares if I stopped eating junkfood ... but if I go out of my way to help my neighbor with yardwork, he'd probably dflash me a good thumbs up.

That's just how I always did it, though.

Even if you cheat on your lenten promise, you can still try and keep it.

I listened to Homecoming yesterday. That's explicit.

Everytime I cheat, I ususally try to add a day on.

*BUMP* Just about a week left, everyone involved. I have nothing groundshaking to add, just some brotherly encouragement as you come to the last leg of this journey.

Keep it up!

Here it is Lent again. Figured it might be time to break this little thread out again.

This year, I'm giving up the past. For those of you who know, the last 8 months or so have been extremely rough on me. Particularly since one family was really causing me a lot of problems in Greenville. So now I have left Faith Lutheran and am now serving only Good Shepherd in Cleveland. Well, my resolution this year is to work on forgiving others. As Aslan says in LWW, "What is past is past. There is no need to speak of it any longer."

I've also resolved to get out and have more fun. I know, that sounds like the exact opposite of what Lent should be, but frankly, there are still too many things missing in my life, so I really need some outlets other than just here and video games.

As I encourage my people, giving up something for Lent isn't for the sake of merely depriving ourselves of some simple pleasure, but rather an opportunity for us to examine the spiritual needs in our lives, and to address those needs. In my own opinion, whatever you give up for Lent should be something you feel is hindering your spiritual life. For me, it's the anger I have been feeling for the past 8 months.

Well, if you'd like to share your thoughts on Lent, please do so.

I'm giving up fast food for lent. I've found myself eating it more and more lately, and I really shouldn't. I'm trying to eat healthier so that I can serve the Lord as best I can.

I'm going to try harder to stop procrastinating. It was sort of my New Year's resolution, but I still need to try harder, so I guess it will be a good thing to give up for Lent.

*looks at homework for weekend*

...Starting next week.

Like I've stated in my LJ, soda is what I'm giving up. I'm trying to get healthier. I want to look the best that I can.

Hoping to get past agnosticism by the end of Lent.

No, not being sarcastic, I'm serious.

I thought about giving up the Internet, but I just couldn't do it; it's way too easy for me to get tempted. So I guess I'll try to stop doing this one thing that I've struggled with for years; some closer forum friends of mine know what that is. I won't say it here, but I really need to go at it again and stop it once and for all.

I'm showing my appreciation for Jesus allowing himself to be nailed to a cross and endure the single most horrible death humanity has invented in order to prevent me and the rest of humanity from burning in unimaginable torment for all eternity...by giving up eating potato chips for six weeks.

I think that's about fair, no?

Hmm. My family doesn't participate in Lent, and I have yet to ask my parents why. :-| If I did, though, I'd probably give up the Internet since I hold it so dearly. Then again, it is the only reason I get out of bed in the morning, so that may not be a good idea.
