I agree with ramrod, I don't think there will ever be an American pope. I think the next pope is most likely going to be either from Latin America or from Western Europe.

HEY PROF. TOR COOLGUY NO TRIPLE POSTING!

Yeah, I've been hearing that the next Pope will be from some third-world country. More than likely from a Central American country.

I heard that if the elected Pope is from South or Central America, he will most likely be from Brazil, Argentina, or for some reason, Honduras. That's what my S.S. teacher told me

Don't forget, Italy would love to have the papacy back. Pope John Paul II was the first non-Italian Pope in 455 years.

I hear the new Pope will be a "transition Pope". Some people thought that this papicy has lasted too long and they want someone to have their 4 or 5 years of fame and then die and let another cardnal have a turn.

I read in the Toronto Star that the "frontrunners" are from Brazil, Honduras, Nigeria, South Africa, and of course a couple of guys from Italy. I'd love to see a Nigerian or South African in the position, just to shake things up.

My official prediction is Cardinal Ratzinger, the Pope's right hand man-type guy.

He's the one who enforces the Pope's decrees and things.

The cardinals are going to debate this, vote and come up with a new Pope. Ratzinger is a front runner, but maybe a new front-runner will emerge in the next couple of weeks.

The news also said that the new Pope will probably go back to being Italian and that people are still recovering from the shock of having a long lasting Polish pope to elect a black pope. People just arn't ready for a black pope

It is Cardinal Ratzinger, he has chosen the name Pope Benedict XVI. He's also 78 years old.

What did I tell you? Am I amazing, or what?

I had hoped he'd pick a name like Pope Celestine or something. I'll never be able to get used to anything other than John Paul.

He'll be pope for maybe eight years, he's pretty old.

It means that he's not going to be really important as someone like our previous one was. Nothing really big in the Catholic Church is going to happen more than likely.

Apparently Pope Benedict was a Nazi sometime ago. Echoes of Pope Urban?

I hope not.

He was in the Mean German Guy Youth program, but all German boys were in the '40s.

He was in the German army, but he defected. His family was very anti-Nazi.

While the MGGY wasn't Nazi, you didn't have to join. They could just bite the bullet...literally.

The church did want to go with a very conservative Pope. Will he be too conservative? PPII was pretty balanced...he even wore Bono's sunglasses.
