Best President

Who, in your opinion was/is the greatest president ever in the history of the United States?

I say FDR. Got us through the depression, and a world war. Was a great leader, and a great inspiration for American people.

How about Abraham Lincoln. He led this nation through the darkest part of it existance, the Civil War and he freed the slaves.

I'ma go with the easy answer and say Kennedy. He got us from the moon, and pretty much prevented Armageddon.

Toss up between Lincoln and FDR. Although, if you consider FDR's personal obstacles (his disability), then I'd have to go with FDR.

At least FDR was generally admired. You have to remember that Lincoln was not a popular president. He still was able to demolish slavery and further America while being hated by the country.

Did you know that the "Philadelphia State Journal" called him "hatchet ugly" and said that he "abused the privalege of being ugly"?

FDR also did a bunch of not-so-nice things... you just don't hear about it. There's some show coming on about it on the History Channel today.

He was only hated by the South, the North liked him and what he stood for.

Aye, I'm recording the 1:00 showing of that, although I think that the only "not so nice" thing that FDR was accused of was not doing the most he could in preventing the Pearl Harbor attack (though it's mostly a conspiracy theory).

I think one of the reasons that Lincoln and Kennedy are often considered the "best" presidents is not only because they did great things, but also because they were both assassinated. But then again, Garfield and McKinley don't always come to mind when considering the "best" president.

Actually, if it weren't for that whole watergate thing, Nixon would have been a pretty good president. The really lowered the tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union during his terms.

I'd probably say FDR was the best... Hm...

In four short years, he met his every goal. He seized the whole southwest from Mexico. Made sure the tariffs fell, and made the English sell the Oregon territory. He built an independent treasury.

Okay, okay. I'll admit it - TMBG taught me all I know about presidents. I know who's not the best, though, Bush. Junior or Senior, it doesn't matter. But I can't really have an informed opinion, although I did always like Reagan because he looked like my Gramps.

FDR is my personal preference, though with the dingbats who've become president, it wasn't a tough choice.

FDR was pretty hardcore, I've read that he [omitted] :eek:

Only for the economy to fall faster then a fat guy jumping out a window. Inflatation did rise right near the end of his tenure.

I suppose the only problem I would have with Reagan is how far from the center his party line was. I would feel this qay regardless of which party a politician was member of. I don't see how you can represent our nation when your politics are so far to the right (or left)

Personally I just need more balance, specifically the ability to see the other sides point of view. While you may not always agree, you can see why they are taking that stand.
