Well, the thing is that they love re-roofing our school.
And for no particular reason.

Same with upgrading computers.
A lot of teachers are computer- illiterate.

I don't really like the idea of COPPA, it's really silly because any underage person could easily lie about their age. This reminds me of a commercial I saw on TV recently encouraging parents to lock channels on their TV. It's really pointless and all it does is makes it so lazy parents can get away with being irresponsible.

Either that, or just that people can try as hard as they can and still people slip between the cracks.

I think the real idea behind this is to take the pressure off of the websites and servers, and place it on the families (or people running the computers kids are using; schools, libraries, etc...) where it should be.

We (as an internet community) try to be a place where free speach is fully protected. With a little effort you can find information on whatever you want. However, some of these things aren't appropriate for all people. So, unless your parents approve of it, or you sneak around them, you need to follow the rules.

The problem with the internet is that there is almost no sure way to know who is where on the internet. When the internet is so big and so popular, you can't stop someone from going to any old website. All you can do is ask.

That's a myth. The average user can be tracked down by law enforcement to an exact address very quickly. A very tricksy user (who knows how to use anonymizing proxies, etc.) can make it nearly impossible, but most users aren't that clever (or enterprising).

But you're correct, this is essentially true.
