With all the secrets that the Bush administration has kept from the american people do you think that he has captured osama bin ladin and is keeping him under wraps to get four more years in office?

No. Having Osama bin Laden -- and the public knowing it -- would do much more to help than hurt his reelection.

I think what Tor Coolguy is referring to is the possibility that the Bushies have had bin Laden in custody for some time now but are waiting until October to reveal it (but of course they won't tell anybody that he's been in custody for a long time; they'll claim that, in an eerie coincidence, he was discovered in a spider hole just before the election).

Having captured bin Laden back in 2002 wouldn't have helped the Bush campaign much, but having captured him in October '04 would help him plenty.

Anyway, Coolguy, this has been discussed to some extent in the War on Terror thread (see October Surprise), but tactics like this have already been employed by the Bush administration. The New Republic reports that The White House has pressured Pakistan to ensure that "arrest or killing of [any] HVT (High Value Targets) [is] announced on twenty-six, twenty-seven, or twenty-eight July," which -- you guessed it -- is right in the middle of the Democratic National Convention.

At any rate, yes, the White House is going to pull out every dirty trick it has between now and November. They've already begun, and it's only going to get more shameless. In my opinion.

Oh, I also posted in the other thread this link, about how the White House is trying to figure out how they can postpone the election if they feel like it. By which I'm sure they mean only in the event of a terrorist attack.

thank you Interrupterjones  . I 'm not one to give into all the conspericy theorys but I really think that the bush administration has something to ensure his re-election that's why he isn't trying had to campign either that or he knows the end is near and he isn't even trying. And think about it,Bush snuck into a canteen in Iraq thanksgiving and it came as a suprise to everyone that he could be so stelthy,I think he knows more than he's letting on

I'm not saying for sure I trust the government OR the president, but it seems to me that Bush is a good christian man and wouldn't do something like that. I don't know... maybe I'm hangin around the old people at my church too much!

(This is not meant as an insult to the people who fully trust in Bush or to those who don't! Just had to add that...)

I'm sorry but you have been spending wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much time with the old people. I really think Bush knows something and isn't letting on that he knows it (it isn't that hard, he dosn't know anything if a teleprompter dosn't tell him it)

Seems to me he's a bad Christian man, considering how he wants to revise the first amendment with an embarrassing amendment of his own.

If October rolls around and Bin Laden suddenly appears to be captured, I'll give this little theory credit. Until then, I have to say it looks a bit too paranoid to me.

Not that I'm a huge Bush supporter or anything, but you're liable to find any and all kinds of false, misleading information on the internet. In fact, I think the CIA got its information on Iraqi weapons from the web.

LOL, Shaon, there's a huge, huge difference between first cousins and ninth cousins twice removed. That teensy little distinction is significant.

I think Bush's trump card was that he was finally going to declare his secret relationship with John Kerry.

They are lovers. Kerry wanted to get a civil union, but Bush fears commitment. (hence the constituational amendment)

Oh, wait I mean cousins.

No, sorry, I mean something religion related.

No not that either. Forget I said anything.

While I wouldn't be surprised to see them do something along these lines, I highly doubt it would be Bin Laden. As dumb as the general public is, the Bush adminstratrion can't think that they would get away with that.

It would be too obvious. Too much of a coincidence. To be honest, if I were Bush and through the dumbest of luck I (rather the soldiers over in the middle east) actually caught him sometime in October, I would seriously consider delaying the anouncement until after the elections. Everyone (and their dog) would say that this was the card hidden up their sleeve.

I totally disagree. Most of the American public will believe anything that the President and Company says. And by company I mean Fox News and most major networks most nights out of the week.

I mean, almost half of this terribly misinformed nation still believes that Iraq had something to do with September 11th. Or that installing a democracy is easy. Or that this is a war to end all wars. Again.

If President Bush says that he went into some cave and he hog tied Osama himself, with his cowboy hat on the entire time, people would believe it.

I mean, half the country still thinks this war wasn't even about oil. Give me a break. Like it's just a coincidence that a major oil company took over an oil-rich country that was in desparate need.

Iraq is a war-torn, hurt, starving country and I feel we are taking advantage of them. It seems obvious to me. Can you imagine how much money was made to be put in the pockets of those people who helped GWB in his political career?

And people are blind to it...at least that's the way I feel. It makes me quite frustrated.

How is it in England? Can you say anything against the government there? Because you can't here now. The politicians have reached some sort of..demigod status. You get booed off the stage when you say anything remotely negative against the president.
