| Post subject: | Was Jesus Black? |
I've heard a few people say that they've heard interperetations of the bible and other sources that proclaim that Jesus was black. Here is a popular anthology on the subject. What do you think? |

I don't know weather he was black or not, but I know he wasn't the coked up white boy the we have in pictures. He was Mediterranian, which means he most likely had an olive skin tone. |

So if he is black, or at least non-white, the bible could be interpereted as saying that caucasians (whites) are children of the devil and going straight to Hell. I just heard this from a friend; I can't direct this quote to the bible. Maybe Didymus can. |

Jesus was Israeli, so He wouldn't be considered white nor black. |

Jesus' skin tone would be that of a Middle Eastern man. Because it's where he lived. |

Highly, highly doubt it. It's called forgiveness and redemption. That stuff. |

Sounds a lot like Rastafarianism (white man as Babylon, etc.) |

Only if one has never actually read the Bible. The only people Jesus ever called "children of the devil" were a group of Jewish religious fanatics (Pharisees) who opposed him. |

He called the pharisees a lot of other things. Which is the primary reason he got crucified. That and they paid the Romans to do it. |

I'm not sure what you're saying here....but I don't really have a problem with Jesus' race; his message and teachings remain the same no matter what his race is. I saw an interesting documentary done on Discovery Channel back around Easter, and they made a computer generated image based on what they knew men of his nationality, socio-economic status, etc., looked like. And the face they came up with, you know who I thought he looked like? Luis Guzman. That's who it looked like to me! |

In Islam, it is considered taboo to draw pictures of holy persons. The face of Muhammad, for example, is never supposed to be shown in art. Interesting, eh? No, it doesn't matter what Christ looked like. It's a bit sad that our culture still continues to paint him as a blond, blue-eyed Norwegian-lookin' fella, though -- as well as continuing on the traditional image of god as an old man. Personally, I believe that god is a spirit, neither man nor woman. Hardly the old man of sea, that. Maybe we should all start drawing god as a woman of non-European descent, just to even things out. I bet god would get a much-needed kick out of that. :] |

It doesn't matter if he was black or white, purple or green, what matters is that he saved us from out sins. |

No. As has been stated, he had an olive skin tone. That said, he was much shorter people today. Around 5'5", which was average. |

The poster of this topic has watched Dogma, I see. Of course Jesus wasn't black. For Pete's sake, in Palestine, people weren't black. At most, they were middle-eastern looking. |

Dogma is a movie by Kevin Smith (one of my favorite directors of Mall rats and chasing amy fame) where the angles bartleby(i cant spell) and loki are going to walk through a gate to clear there sins so they can return to heaven against god will thus causing existence to be wiped out. And so the last zion (a woman working at an abortion clinic) must team together with rufus the 13th apostle (chris rock) and jay and silent bob (the prophets) to go to south jersey and stop the tragedy from, happening. Also in this movie god is Alannis Morrisette. Very funny movie. |

Which MAkes me wonder Why Races exist all that is different is the color of our skin. And We don't give Dogs different races (most of the time) because their Fur Is different colors do we? |
