I'm not Bush fan by any means. What he has done is alienate half of America, and ruined Alliances with other nations. That, and all the bribes, payoffs, and war-starting on faulty intelligence.

This thread feels like flamebait to me, but oh well.

The truth is, unlike most in America, I don't have any feelings about Bush either way (Al Gore/John Kerry would have done just as good and as bad).
He DID go to war on faulty intelligence, but had we not gone to war, the "HE KNEW THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY WMD'S" people would say he was ignoring evidence that Iraq was a clear and present danger, so it's a no-win for him. The president has to trust his intelligence community, that's why they're there. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd say he was set up, that's a different story for a different day (and no, I don't believe he was "set-up").
Initially, I was for the war (but I thought we needed help), I didn't buy Iraq-Osama connection, but I thought the way the UN inspectors were turned away looked more than a bit fishy.
I don't like the stuff we're facing over there right now, though. Our military isn't trained to do what they're being asked to do. "Peacekeeping" is infinately harder than war fighting (you to fight with "rules" against an enemy that doesn't have any), which is why we've lost 1500 or so since "Mission Accomplished". I really wish the UN would help us out, but, I guess this is what we get for the middle finger we shot them when we invaded.

As for some of the other things people are saying, you are very right, having a president that can't say nuclear is kinda scary. Even though I know he's from Texas, I can't help but wonder if he's spent any time in Indiana (everyone I know that says "nucular" is from Indiana).

Not goign to get into the debate.

All I have to say is, no matter how much you like or dislike something, you should say "good or bad" never "bad or good". That's how it always is, "good or bad"- everyone says that, and let's keep it that way, otherwise that makes the thread starter seem excessively biased and thus invalidates the integrety of the poll.

He got a DUI in the 80s. Do you know how hard it was to get a DUI back than? You would have to be driving drunk and crash your car into 7 different people's houses (or something similar to that). How anyone got the idea that he should lead the country is beyond me. No one knows what he'll do in his 3rd term. That's right, somehow he will manage to stay leader of the country after this term whether he becomes dictator or gets the law changed about only 2 terms and fixes every voting machine to explode if you vote for a democrat.
Since he is bound to only ruin the country more, I say we take down the border patrol at the border between America and Mexico allowing all of Mexico to come here, and then we all make an endrun across the border to the now empty Mexico and set up our own border patroll and leave Bush in America. We'll be living the good life in Mexico while the people who left Mexico for America foolishly thinking our country was better have to suffer the wrath of Bush!

Though I'm not a Bush fan (mostly because I disagree with him on every single issue) I think it's important that we set the problems of his past aside. If you learn about him you'll find that he really has changed.

I don't know where you get the idea that Bush is going to change the two-term policy just to stay in office. I've never heard that mentioned, and I think the chances of that happening are null.

In this order...
1. I know we are supposed to learn to forget but that's not the only thing he's done. I can't think of any of the top of my head but I remember hearing about them on CNN and other political-type shows.
2. I'm saying although no one has mentioned it, I get the feeling near the end of this term he will do something to give him more time in office.
3. Yes it's a joke but not a bad idea.

And it's a god thing we did go to war in Iraq, because if we didn't, the Iraqis would still be living under the rule of a horrible dictator.

Communism is a whole other story. It's a good idea in theory, but it has been proven that it cannot ever work under any circumstances, not the way Karl Marx intended, anyway.

OK. I believe that President Bush is a decent man. He's a nice guy. But he has absolutely no business whatsoever running our country. I honestly do not believe that he has enough intelligence to be president. Now, before you say, "Well, if he's not smart, how'd he get to be president anyway?" remember, you don't have to be smart for your dad to pick out the best advisers and campaign managers.

The war in Iraq was unnecessary. Sure, Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator, but so is Fidel Castro, so is Kim Jong-Il, so are several African dictators, and many others. If, by the reasoning that it was right to invade Iraq because Saddam Hussein was an evil man, why haven't we already invaded these other countries? Why don't we oust all the dictators? No, that's not why we went to war in Iraq. We went to war because somebody told President Bush lies about Saddam Hussein's WMD's, which turned out to be nonexistent.

John: I have a theory where Communism can work, but it's almost impossible. I like the idea of it though.

Ok, here it goes. For Communism to work, there has to be a WORLD government. No more countries. Because the point of Communism is where the government distributes equal amounts of all goods. No single country can produce all the goods that the country needs. Of course, there are other factors involved in Communism, but that would be a first step.

Also, it probably wouldn't work because of human nature. (greed, lust for power, etc) But. the idea is still good and I don't like following anything else.

Well, we shouldn't let this get too far offtopic, but I will say this:

It might work the way you suggested, but it would hit two major snags;
One, there won't be any world government that comes into being peacefully. National pride, especially in the U.S., is too powerful for that.
Two, if there was a world government, I don't know how receptive we'd be to Communism. People would be reluctant because they've seen how it's failed in the past.

But who knows? I could be wrong in every way.

Anyway, Toastpaint: I don't like Bush. There ya go.

One last thing about Communism: It would have to be a peaceful change to the world government, otherwise rebellion would be more susceptible to occuring.

I changed it :) I almost forgot how strict you guys are about that.

Maybe defeating all tjhe brutal dictators wasn't the point of the war, but the war did come to at least one possitive outcome: Saddam out of power. I never said that was the point of the war.

Obviously, more than half of America. There would have to be a whole ton of Bush supporters out there for the man to become the President of the US. Though I don't follow politics, I support Bush, and I don't think that Kerry would really have done any better.

There are some out there that would have you believe that there are only 100 Bush voters out there, and that he stole the election in some sort vote stealing scheme. Some people just can't get a grip on reality. If the democrats want the white house back, the best thing they can do is get another candidate that's "like us". Bill Clinton was about as close to your average Joe Sixpack as you're gonna find in a politician, and that's why he's so dang popular. People want animated leaders, not stiff robots. That's what cost Bob Dole the election, and it's what cost Al Gore (well, that, and people who can't punch a hole in a piece of paper), and John Kerry, too.

Arg! Bush is just as bad as any other president. For my very long veiw: go here.

A few things I don't like about Bush:
1. His education plan. This "No Child Left Behind" thing, really bugs me. If you didn't know this, I went into homeschool because in fifth grade because I was bored out of my gourd. My sister skipped a grade, and she was bored too. They need a program for smart kids, as well as the ones behind.
2. The stem cell research. If people want to give up there embryos so my grandpa won't cie, I say go ahead.

Everything else I like about Bush. I say he is a stable releif compared to Clinton

Agree'd! Last year in math class (7th grade) I was so bored out of my wits that I just couldn't concentrate on anything. I developed a sort of temporary ADD-like condition where I just couldn't sit still - but just in math class. I would constantly go get a drink of water or go to the bathroom, just so I could clear my head. I actually think that last year's math class made me dumber... I like to learn new things. The thing I hate about New York State's 7th grade ciriculum is that almost everything they teach we already learned. This year I'm in math 107 (ninth grade accelerated) and next year I'm going into math 109 (honors.) This year's class, which was the most challenging offered at my school, isn't even very difficult for me. I feel like nothing's being done to keep kids like me interested in school work. I feel like if my teacher taught me calculus right now, even though I wouldn't understand a lick of it, I'd be happier than learning stuff that's easy. I'm actually forcing myself to find the new things we're learning interesting. Right now we're doing logic, truth tables, etc. I actually researched, on my own time, logical operators that we didnt learn in class. I actually find myself scribbling little logic problems whenever I'm done with classwork. I'd be writing all over my binder (p^q)->[~q<->(~pV~q)], and I do the truth tables and I say to myself "cool! It's a tautology!" because I have nothing better to do with my time.

Sorry for the rant :-)

You folks need to see the mess that KERA (Kentucky Education Reform Act) made of schools in Kentucky in the mid 90's. At least you were learning SOMETHING. With KERA, grades were based on a lot more than your answer. Granted "partial credit" isn't a bad thing, but when a student with a VERY wrong answer can get a better grade because they drew more pictures and better explained themselves and their methods, than a student that got the right answer, well, something is just wrong there. There are a lot of other screwy stuff with it, too. The only good thing about it was that it brought accountability to the schools and teachers. Leave it to educators here to stay lazy and do what some did, help the students cheat on the accountability exams. Hey, it's easier than actually doing your job.
