They make it sound so good. (If you were listening to Bush discuss his ideas for the next four years, they can make it sound just as good).

Like the state of the Union, this would make a good drinking game.

Everytime they clap, take a drink.
Everytime he discusses this, take a drink...
Everytime he discusses that, take a drink...

Where do you live that there's a specific age that limits drinking?

The bodyneeds water. Seriously.

Yes... Water.

Actually, I don't drink alcohol myself. It was more of an expression (or if you want it to be an actual game, orange soda is always nice)

I just saw him on Harrisburg's Capitol Mall. We were his first stop frm out of the DNC.

He is terrific! Let's give him four years!

I hate to be cheesy, but I can get behind him. I can believe that he would make an excellent President.

Senator Kerry is speaking in my town tonight. Tickets are free. I can't decide if I'm going to go. On the one hand, it'll be a worthwhile experience and I might meet some cute liberals. On the other hand, I'm really, really tired and need to go to the mall to get my phone replaced, and it's not like I'm not gonna vote for Kerry whether I see him speak or not. Hrm. :goblin:

Hey, isn't Bush in the neighborhood too? You could always go see him...

It's a shame you missed the rock throwing competition the other day.

Funny story, when W was campaigning the first time 'round, he came to Decorah (note: Decorah, Dubuque, and Davenport are all geographically distinct places) and my Government class went to hear him talk. A girl in my class, Lucy, brought with her some questions about Bush's environmental policies in Texas which, as you might imagine, were atrocious. So at the rally, which is actually rather sparsely-attended, local reporters are (er, tense switch, sorry) tossing him all these softball questions, and he's just giving his canned responses. And Lucy makes it to the front of the crowd and asks him her first question (I'm sorry to say I can't remember the specific question) and, characteristically, he doesn't actually answer it, instead opting to bring out one of his talking points, which is essentially "I have a strong environmental policy but won't cite actual figures". So Lucy asks him her follow-up question, which does cite actual figures and is really a hardball of a question (Lucy was one of our salutatorians; she'd done her homework). I wish I could remember what he said, but he totally blew her off and went after more softballs. It really kind of ticked our whole class off. It's hard to be impressed when the person who wants to run the country blows off the one person in the room asking questions that you can relate to.

Of course, this time around, a bunch of unpredictable, open-minded students probably wouldn't even be allowed into the rally and would likely get hauled away in handcuffs.

Actually, I was home for that, but I didn't check out the competition. I was hanging out with my niece at the time; she went down the big inflatable slide all by herself, which is far more exciting to Uncle Jordy than the rock throwers.

So I didn't go. I'm half-relieved and half-disappointed. Relieved because there was a line all the way around the block and it was miserably hot, and disappointed because Dave Grohl performed at the rally. In the words of Jack Black, "Dave ***ing Grohl!"

Oh, well.
