Today in Mississippi, a 41 year old mystery was laid to rest. Former Klansman Edgar Ray Allen was convicted of the 1964 slaying of three Civil Rights workers. This was the basis for the movie Mississippi Burning. This trial has made me think about the case of Civil rights. Yeah, physically things have changed, but I still see that somethings have not changed. I still see a lot of prejudice in the world. The question I am asking is: How much prejudice have you seen, and what are your thoughts on prejudice?

I worked with this one guy in Atlanta, a man who claimed to be a pastor but hated white people. He used to tell me he was going to kill me first (mostly because I was an outspoken Christian who contradicted his hate teaching). He died about a year later of some unknown disease. I think it was just like the Proverbs say, bitterness had eaten away his bones.

What was sad to me was that he was teaching people his racist doctrine and calling it Christian.

That sort of thing happens all the time. People use religion for their own personal gain, and not for what it was originally intended for. That's one of the biggest problems, I think, about organized religion. If people trust a religious leader so much, (s)he might be able to get them to do anything! If religion was unexploited by people, it would definitely be far better off. It's like communism. Communism is very easily used to gain power, but if it weren't, it would be ideal.

Prejudice is everywhere. Not just in a racial sense, either. And I think we're all guilty of it to some degree or another. What matters is whether anyone's getting hurt by it. And, sadly, people are. All the time.

I could go into detail about the types of prejudice I've personally seen or experienced, but I don't know that that would help anything.

My uncle is prejudice. He dispises minorities and I don't know why, nobody else in the family is.
