Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor recently annouce that she will be retiring from the bench. She was the first female member of the Supreme Court and was known for being the swing vote on most topics.

What are your thoughts on Justice O'Connor and what is her legacy?

Also, Who do you think the next Supreme Court Justice?

I know there is, most likely, a pretty good reason we don't elect justices directly, but I would like to see us elect them. I mean, it seems like the people that get appointed are usually ultra-partisan and usually don't uphold the Constitution so much as their own values.
I would love to see some completely "middle of the road" moderate get appointed. I know, however, that the chances of that are slim to none. People are just too partisan these days.

Here's the scoop: Every time a new "radical conservative" justice is appointed and approved, for some reason, they tend to be the ones who enact the most socially important rulings and agree with positive social change. For example, Earl Warren was appointed to bring a balance to the Supreme court after some conservatives were concerned with the direction of the civil rights movement. He traditionally ruled in a conservative manner. Today, he is known for ruling in favor of major social change, including Brown vs. Board of Education. I feel that the same will happen, only I can only hope that whoever takes her spot, and eventually Reinquist's, are not Scalia-like idiots. That's right, Scalia is an idiot....
