True Story:
When a friend of mine was a junior in high school her aunt died one morning and she was late for class. Her teacher didn't accept her hall pass because he believed in the "no excuse for tardiness" charade. There was a small brawl between them, eventually leading to her shouting out "You're being a Nazi!". She was suspended, no, not for being unruly with an instructor, but for descriminating against the Nazi party, a party infamous for descriminating against others. Is it just me, or is anti-offensive policy getting a little out of hand?

In Massachusetts, there is a set of laws against decrimination. Now, I'm not for racism and sexism, in fact, I try to use politically correct language whenever possible, but I think political correctness should be used as guidelines, not laws. Doesn't making a law saying that you can't offend people break the first amendment concerning free speech?

Two things.
First, your friend misused the term Nazi.
I would have called the teacher something else.
Second. It is not discriminating, it is anger. She should not have been suspended. Detention, yes. Suspension no.

Your friend needs to learn to only call people Nazis, if they are goose stepping with their right arm out straight and a swastika on there sleeve.

I remember last year a kid brought a SI: Swimsuit Issue to my high school and got suspended for it. Here is the kicker I brought the same issue in and I got nothing. The difference I was a senior and he was a seventh grader. If he got suspended I should have too.

This reminds me of Godwin's law. I know this usually only applies to internet discussions, but whenever you compare someone to hitler or a nazi, you automatically lose the argument.

Apparently you all misinterpreted my first post.
1. I know it's a joke but I did not call anyone the n-word; I only mentioned a story of someone calling someone the n-word.
2. This topic isn't about what happened to my friend, that was just an example. This topic is about the justworthyness of laws against verbal descrimination.

Carry on!

how can you not descriminate against Nazis? half of the people in the army were in it because they would be killed if they didnt join. even germans dont consider Nazis german becuase they dont consider nazis german. Its why WWII video games are played in Germany. They dont consider Nazis german. im just ranting now and im probably off subject. yep.

There is ONE loophole in Godwin's law... If your comparison is apt, and I mean REALLY apt, you're still in the fight..
Example:
You're out if you say "Don't be such a Nazi, it was a joke" or "Bush is a Nazi"

You're ok if you say "Goose-stepping, brown shirt wearing, and anti-semitism are ok, IF YOU'RE A NAZI!!"

As for the suspension, yeah, it's probably going to far, but name calling is going too far. I'd say detention for lack of respect (although I'd have to consider the circumstances of the situation), and I'd have a talk with the teacher, too..

Nice little paradox there. The school won't tolerate discrimination against anybody (including Nazis). Yet Nazis discriminate by definition. So the school will not tolerate Nazism. So the school are practising discrimination because they won't tolerate discrimination.
