Discuss here about things that some people may find offensive when you or others don't. Related to religion, mostly, but if it's unrelated, I'll make no complaints...
My case is that I was asked to create a bulletin cover for my church for a youth service sunday.
Here it is
I think it's funny yet...they made me put a cross in it, to balance it out. So i made it all shiny and glowy. I think it looks cool. But i don't want to be all...pulled aside and given a good talkin' to. They told me to draw whatever i wanted. I did. Screw them. I'm making a poster for that amazing sheep. Luckily, i won't be there on that sunday, so if i anger people, hopefully they'll forger about it by next week.

I would comment if I knew what the heck the poster was for. You haven't told us anything of value in reference to it. The pic is cool but is it to illustrate the sermon or what?

That would be my question: is there anything in particular you want to communicate with it? For example, if you wanted to say something like, Jesus, the Lord of all Nature, or something like that. In fact, I say just write that on there somewhere. Maybe centered over the top.

no, they gave me no theme or anything, they just told me to basically shut up and draw. It's the front of a bulletin/pamphlet type thing that we pass out every sunday with the morning's schedule and upcoming events and such. I have no hidden meanings or whatever, i just drew whatever came to mind. But my guess, along with some youth, is that the 'old' people will look at it and find it disrespectful or something. I don't know why, they're like that i guess. Very unorthidox from what they're used to. I like it though.

So you don't know if they find it offensive yet, but you think they will?

pretty much. I mean, i don't see whythey would, i don't think they're going to form a mob and torch and pitchfork me, but i don't doubt they give me that...one lowered eyebrow and slanted head type look at me.

Maybe "Jesus the Creator," or something like it?
Old people seem to often have issues with cartoons because they see them as pointless, a waste of time and childish. I have to disagree.

As a pastor, I don't see anything particularly offensive. But if you were worried about it, just say something along the lines of, "Jesus, Lord of all Nature" or "Jesus the Creator" or something. That'll make 'em oooh and aaah!

again, there IS no secret agenda behind it, i just...drew whatever i felt like. They told me to maybe set it as.."All God's Creatures"...Bah. I don't know. I'll just give it to them and they can do whatever to it.

It's like when I drew pictures for the band concert programs in middle school. They were laughable to me, but then people would congratulate me for a job well done. Goes to show you, art is in the eye of the beholder. And, when in doubt or when being critiqued, use that.

..i think i'll go with the "kick any critics in the face and run" technique of dealing with any you know..."negative" "feedback"...like that...

Maybe they're not so much "offended" as "wondering what the crap that has to do with church". I'm thinking an illustration for a church pamphlet should be at least somewhat related to the sermon or whatever.

Oh, I see the hidden agenda here. You're trying to tell us that Romans were actually various animals. The monkey even has the Spear of Jesus!

I'm just kidding, by the way.

I like it. It's cute. And really, I see nothing offensive about it. It works well, especially considering that you weren't given much to go on. Then again, some people are REALLY easily offended. -_- Oh well, I like it a lot. (And yes, that sheep is indeed awesome.)

(Reminds me of the time when I was a little kid in Sunday School and I drew Satan under a big circle with a slash through it, and then I drew God, circled, in a psychedelic robe. The Sunday School teacher got mad that I drew God as a hippie (my reasoning was that nobody knows what God looks like, and hippies are all for peace and stuff, so for all we know, God could be a hippie), but my mom liked it.)
