This kind of thing really upsets me. I cannot believe that a promenant Christian would make such a horrible statement.

Holy. Crap.

What Christian would blatantly say "Yeah, I think we should kill so and so. They totally deserve it, and we can do it AND get away with it!"

Pat Robertson has always been on the top of my list of "People that Fail Humanity."

I first heard about him when he and Falliwell criticised John McCain for "having a black baby," which became the trump card for George W. Bush during the2000 presidential primary in South Carolina. The truth was that McCain and his wife adopted a Bangladeshian baby, and it happened to have darker skin. And because he had a "black baby sired out of wedlock," he obviously wasn't religious enough, so that's the reason why McCain lost the South Carolina primary to Bush. I'll never live it down.

Bold assassination has never faired well for America. Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, they all used the failed attempts to build a ferocious anti-American sentiment. Venezuela, unfortunately, is the one of the highest oil producing countries in the world, and lo and behold, they hate us. So what do we do? Threaten them with a failed, American government-backed coup.

Haven't we learned from the past?

I concur. People, this is right wing fun-duh-mentalism at its worst.

My God. This has given me yet another reason to destest him even more. I mean, what he has said and done will surely NOT get him anywhere near the Kingdom of Heaven.

Nice going there, Pat. Thanks. Thanks a lot. X-(

Chavez is only going to use this and go "See? See? Those evil imperialist yanquis are (blaaaaaaaaaah)!"

The Cold War is long over, and the "game" that existed between the Soviet Union and the U.S. (proxy war by supporting uprisings and regimes favorable to either their ideology or their nation) can not and should not be played. It wasn't a very good idea during the Cold War, and it sure as heck is not now.

And like clockwork, it's been in all the Venezualan national papers today and Chavez's people have jumped all over this. But I've a Venezualan friend who agrees with Pat when he says that the US didn't do enough to help the people's uprising against Chavez.

But of course, what really makes this disgusting is that Pat Robertson is supposed to be "pro-life". Er, Pat, hang on a second.....

That's Pat Robertson for you.

I can't believe people actually listen to the drivel that spews from the idiot's mouth. The sad thing is, people take him seriously and BELIEVE the things he says.

He's number 2 on my list of people who Must Be Stopped.

Number 1 is Paris Hilton, if you were wondering.

Well Pat Robertson is an idiot. I mean this is a man who blamed 9/11 on, "pagans, abortionists, feminists, gay, lesbians, the ACLU and the People for the American Way". Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, now is he?

1. Pat Robertson is clearly a moron who should not be listened to.

2. If he's such a great Christian, why the heck would he call for someone's assassination? Thou shalt do no murder, remember?

3. I thought that that was Jerry Falwell, BtG.

Ah, we shouldn't even be talking about this numb-pants. The people we should be talking about are those who says such things, but are still being listened to. Take Ann Coulter, Al Franken, Bill O'Reilly, and those other "pundits," make them live with a normal American family, and see what actually goes on in day to day life. For example, Ann Coulter has called all liberals traitors and wussies and destroyers of the Constitution (in so many words). She says that they are right up there with terrorists and extremists who want nothing more than to change our way of life. I'm tempted to call her and say calmly, "Hello. My name is DanBo. I serve in the Navy, am majoring in a field of progressive engineering, am a follower of John McCain, I don't party, I don't like to curse, I have a great family upbringing, want to have a family, and I'm a liberal. It's a pleasure to speak to you." And then try to have a civil conversation with her.

Extremists thrive only when there are other extremists to fight. That's why they still even listen to Bill O'Reilly or Pat Robertson. The worst that I've ever seen was when O'Reilly told Sen. McCain, straight to his face, with sincerity, that it's ok to torture prisoners because it yields information and results. I never felt so insulted....and I wasn't the one stuck in a POW camp for 5 years! This world of polarity and insensitivity and incomprehensible ignorance has to go!

All in favor, yell, "Be Reasonable!"

The subject of Pat Robertson came up at Bible study tonight. The concensus of the group was that he was an idiot for saying that.

It's just a dire shame that Pat Robertson's kind is the voice of American Christendom, and not those in your Bible group. Over here, in the UK and in Europe, there's a prevalent stereotype that American Christians are all fundementalist fruitcakes, and it's because of people like Pat Robertson. Now's the time for the real representatives of American Christendom to denouce what he's said. They really need to do that.

I guess that Patty is recanting, and said that he was taken out of context... kind of rediculous. He should of just said that he made a mistake and apologized.

That will happen on the same day Tom Cruise stops believing in alien ghosts. Which is never.

That's the thing. Stereotypes are formed on the most visible to the eye; they are true for only a part of the whole, yet due to that part being far more easily percieved, the rest of us get labeled like them. Pretty much anyone I know who's Christian thinks Pat Robertson is a psycho or making all Christianity look bad. Not too many are keen on the 700 Club, either.

But people won't notice that lots of American Christians are NOT like Pat Robertson, because many either don't take notice (I've commonly noticed someone who despises Christians/Americans will have some as friends and not even take notice how their friends are), only know of Pat, or (as has been displayed in this forum before ... no, I'm not accusing you of it, What's-Her-Face) perhaps relish in hating what they believe is true.

People have to be more perceptive and open-minded in order to see past a stereotype, because they do not break easy--and in the case of Pat Robertson, it's difficult to see how to match his notoriety outside of the United States.

Thanks... Quote of the day comes from above link... "Christ commanded us to be wise as a serpent but innocent as a dove. In this case at least, it appears that Pat Robertson is as innocent as a serpent and as wise as a dove. I hope he will take Al Mohler's counsel to heart, apologizing quickly and unequivocally."

Gasp! It's JoeyDay!

Anyway, Pat mentione those never-to-be-mentioned people in his apology, or statement, or whatever you chose to call it. What's the law that states you've lost ground and respectability when you compare someone's actions to Hitler?

Thanks, I knew it was something God-like. Hohoho.

Ok, back on topic. Does he save face at all by saying what he says in response to the backlash?

The only televangelist that I remotely like is Billy Graham. He preaches THE Word of God, not his interpretation of the Word of God. He also doesn't make stupid comments like this.
