Except that IJ wouldn't say that in a Fair and Intelligent argument. He might, however, use it on someone who is not acting fairly or intelligently. Goodness knows he and I have had some sharp disagreements in the past, but he never threatened me with banning. But then again, I never told him he needed to shut his mouth. Telling someone to shut up because you disagree with them is neither fair nor intelligent.

Of course, what I said was COMPLETELY unprovoked, and wasn't preceeded by something incredibly demeaning and patronising, say comments like this:

I hardly see how telling someone to shut up even compares to that kind of disrespect.
