has anybody heard of this poor soul? this poor boy killed himself because of the tourment and pain he received from his peers. yes, the boy kept in his feelings about what his peers were doing to him, he was beaten, called every name you could think of, just because of his lifestyle. he was beaten in the locker rooms, pulled out of the shower and was urinated on, just because of his lifestyle. he wrote beautiful poetry and paintings that depicted how tourtured he was by what they did to him. he couldnt take it any more, he went to his appartment, tied a rope to the roof, and hung himself. why? because he was a homosexual. the reason people beat him or any other homosexual person is because we dont understand theyer ways..... we are afraid that they will turn them into a homosexual, then to show that they are not, they hurt the problem. i recently had revelation about how i was treating other people, i had figured this out in a IM with one of my best friends. the transcript follows:
Quote:
me: man, i really gotta get a english bible...... so whos jim wheeler?
friend: sec
friend: http://www.jimwheeler.org/
friend: hes a young man who was gay but was tormented for it
friend: he was peed on in his Gym class,
friend: beat up
friend: etc
friend: He killed himself
Me: thats...............thats sad
friend: http://www.jimwheeler.org/story.html
friend: "So Jimmy tried to pretend that he was completely comfortable with who he was. He tried to pretend that it didn't bother him when the kids called him names like 'Bundle of sticks' or 'Queer' or that it didn't totally humiliate him when they pulled him out of the gym class shower and peed on him." - from the website
Me: the reason some people torment homosexuals is because they are afraid that the homosexual person might turn them into a homosexual
friend: yeah
friend: Jennifer, his sis, told me that he was such a loving soul
friend: she also told me that He might not have killed himself if he knew me. That hit hard
friend: In fact im tearing now thinking about it
friend: then theres Robby Kirkland, same story, but he was 14 when he killed himself
Me: ohh god.... i cant belive i used to make fun of homosexuals, or calling people in my classes that we suspected were gay Queers or fags........ now that i know ones story, i can truly relate to what he was going through. i get beaten on, and called names all the time, i have tried to kill myslef before, but i masked it with harming others.....i see the errors of my ways.... everyone is different and they cant be punnished because they dont follow the norm. i must try all i can to get people to understand the plight of people who get tourmented everyday because of their way of life, maybe then people will finally understand
friend: yes

disscuss.

I never heard of this kid in particualar, but i have heard lots of similar stories.

It really p***es me off when kids treat gays bad and dont even try to form thier own opinion first. Kids (and some more "conservative**" people) for some reason have this fear of being unaccepted and so only do what the rest of the crowd does. I bet you that if you talked to your grandparents they could tell you of numerous occaisons where they called someone a n*****, but now they're not rascist or anything (not to insult any relatives or anything). Whats even worse is that the kid has got to kill him/herself before anyone stops! Things like this are getting way to common, the media has to start being a bit more balanced becasue if it atleast compared racism to homophobia I think alot of things like this would be prevented.

**I dont mean to insult conservatives, that was just the best word for what I was thinking.)

actually, it hasnt stopped for Jim Wheeler, the people at GodhatesF**s.com are trying to put up a memorial for him that says "Jim Wheeler, Entered Hell on (Insert Date Here)", that is just not right, alot of my friends are homosexual, and it doesnt bother me, nor anyone else tehy hang out with. really, all in all, we gotta stop people from going out and saying that god only likes people who like the opposite sex, god loves everyone, homosexual, buddist, islamic people, muslims, pagans, umm....... everyone.

*shudder* Those people are evil and disturbing.

It's very very sad that these things happen, what can I say. But, who knows, maybe these things happen so that we can all really look at the way we behave towards others.

I'm still optimistic for the future and for most of the kids today, though. I used to work at a school, and a taught a class with an openly gay student in it. And he was absolutely fine. He was a popular happy kid, everyone liked him and he was in no way victimised that I could see. And this was a school in a fairly rough part of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

But there's obviously still a long way to go.

not to be a jerk, but its a bit hypocritical to agree wiht the fact that god loves everyone and then call homophobes "evil". This isnt directede at anyone on this thread thus far, but its going to come up so Im just saying it now.

Homophobes aren't evil, what they are is ignorant. Yes, I believe that homosexuality is a sin, but that doesn't mean we have the right to hate them. We are all sinners, and everyone who hates homosexuals because of the Bible is a hypocrite, that's like saying we should hate everyone who has sex outside of marriage, or everyone who doesn't obey their parents. God says we should love everyone, just as he loves everyone.

It really annoys me when people call everyone who doesn't like gays a homophobe. They aren't afraid of gay people, they just don't like them. Maybe we should also say that everyone who doesn't like vegetables is afraid of vegetables.

Poor kid. Nobody, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc., should have to undergo such torment. :(( I know for a fact that being called names is very hurtful, and he had to endure so much more.

I, personally, do not think of homosexuality as a sin, but that's another topic for another day. (And I don't think someone should be disliked due to their homosexuality, either.)

This is just sad. It's amazing what idiots do to people because of they're personal life choices. I don't understand why people hate them, they're just regular people. Maybe you can think it's a bit weird, that's fine, but hating them, because they're gay? That's just sad. People really need to open there eyes and see the world, but I can tell you that that's not going to happen any time soon. Heck, I think it's getting worse. Maybe someday the majority of the world will finally accept everyone, regardless of race, sex, or sexuality, but today is not that day, nor is it in the near, or even far away future.

I agree. That is just sad.

As I said in King Nintendork(You heard me right)'s ranting thread, I do not belive in these differances. (Well, I do) but hey, they are still LIVING. BREATHING. PEOPLE.

Yeah.

The gears turn for these kinds of things everyday. Everyday kids that are bisexual, homosexual, any race, anyone is beaten up for things that they can't change. And why? Becuase we're afraid. I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you, Mandy: unless you're That Really EVil Guy Who's Name You're Not Supposed to Mention In Forums (there you go, Didy), why else would you torment people different from yourself?

Hmm. I understand what you're saying. However, why would we be afraid? Yes, I'm sure some people do fear those who are different, but that can't be the whole reason. I'd think that pure dislike and cruelty would have something to do with it, too.

I don't think it's fear at all. I think it's just plain cruelty. Fear might motivate other to join in, but sheer evil is the root cause.

it may be the root cause, but look at racism, back when the African Americans were first brought to america and sold of as slaves, was because we thought they came from a primitive culture. but it turned out that that culture could kick the slave traders butts, so they started to fear them, and masked that fear with hatred and beatings. they feared them because they were an unknown culture, they did not know what they were like. thats kinda how alot of people down here think of homosexuals.

yeah, like the fab five, whats there names... in queer eye for the straight guy........ what ever happend to the show Straight plan for the gay man? that was always funny just to see some big trucker dudes ruin a good house or apartment. so the media takes part using stereo types.... the only way to stop it all is to stop stereotypes, and everything else...err.....wait.............. we shouldnt try to stop anything because of teh fallout effects....
