Do you think that the new supreme court members are at all qualified? Mainly Hariet Miers. I dont think so, she has no experience and is only getting this position because Bush is scared she will blab Aabout his past (ever notice most of the people he nominates are OLD "freinds"?)
But Im only one person i want to know what you guys think.

Nominating Harriet Miers was a dumb idea. Not that I don't use "I think", because it's so clear! She has no legal experience at all; she's just a good friend of Bush. Yeah, it's great that Miers is a born-again Christian, but who cares? Pretty much the only thing that matters is her stance on abortion, which no one knows.

To be fair, Miers has been a successful lawyer for many years now. She's just never had any judging experience.

Miers was a terrible pick for BOTH ends of the political spectrum. The Republicans distrust her because they don't know too much about her. The Democrats wouldn't trust anyone President Bush selected, but their problem with her is much the same: unpredictability. The only one who knows for sure what kind of decisions she'll make is Miers herself, because she has no judging record.

Personally, I'm a tad worried that she's a born again Christian. The Supreme Court, with its life appointments, is no place for someone who will base decisions on national policy for all 300 million Americans by their religion.

Also, abortion is not really that important a topic in the long run, in terms of "things the Supreme Court needs to concern itself with." There are more important things to worry about, like whether Miers would be willing to allow torture of Iraqi POWs, or whether she would influence a Presidential election, like the Supreme Court did to Al Gore in 2000. (By the way, in 1989, I believe it was, Miers answered a questionnaire on abortion saying she would be perfectly willing to ban it in all cases, including cases of rape and incest, except when the mother's death is imminent. :-| )

We'll see what the future holds, but I'm personally not really liking what I'm seeing. Let's hope Bush doesn't have to appoint any more justices.

And what exactly is wrong with that? I happen to be a Christian, and I disapprove of your judgmental remarks about us. Do you think that being Christian makes us any less citizens than you? Or that it renders us incapable of making sound jugdments?

What's more, I happen to agree with her attitudes toward abortion, excepting cases of rape and incest (that's a bit extreme, I think). Nevertheless, I do agree with you that it is one of the lower ranking issues of concern right now.

I think they're trying to say that a christian may make decisions that aren't based on the constitution..
I disagree, though, and do share your bitterness against this whole anti-christian bias.

Whoa, I'm not bashing Christians here, and I'm sorry if it seemed like that. I'm Christian myself, as most of you know.

I was only concerned that Miers will base all of her decisions on her religion rather than the Constitution. No offense was intended.

I think that basing big desicions on personal values rather then for the good of America is getting to be a big problem in the states. The conservatives seem to be the biggest offenders of this (if you have the Green party in the states They would come up as a close second). I know I'm going to get heat for this but honestly, it's true.

I wouldn't say they are the biggest offenders in this. I'd say that liberals are every bit as bad about it as conservatives, if not worse. The problem is, whose definition of "the good of America" do you use? A conservative one or a liberal one?

On what base do you figure Liberals are just as bad? Not to question you or disagree just curious.

I tend to fall more to the Liberal view point for "the good of America". Im not like one of those "I hate george bush! Keep him out of Canada! He's soooo dumb!" Liberals. Thats contradictory. I'm only saying Liberal because the "make your own choice" and "peace" type values appeal to me more then some Conservative values.

I just heard about the new justice Alito, and I have to do homework on him. I'm not trying to get you people to do my homework, I'm just asking, if anyone knows anything about him.
