Rosa Parks died this morning. The accidental Civil Rights Icon was known for refusing to giving up her bus seat to a white rider in Montgomery, Alabama. What do you think her legacy will be and what do you think about the state of Civil Rights in the world today?

I think that the Civil Rights movement, while a monumentous occasion, will never be truly over. While today it might not be as bad in the US, it's still terrible overseas and in the a lot of the rest of the world. It'll be a long time before everyone treats everyone else as equals.

As for Rosa Parks...her legend will surely live on for a great deal of time, if not forever. She's the second person I think of when I hear Civil Rights, behind Dr. Martin Luther King.

Not as bad in the US? I think gays would be pretty badly treated if not for general tolerence levels set down by people (like Rosa). I'm Not trying to turn this into yet another Gay rights type discussion But it had to be said.

Wow, I dident see that comeing. I dident even know she was still alive. This reminds about how a year or two ago I was also taken by surprise when I read in the paper that the lady who says "You call could not go though" and "The number you have reached is not in service" recording on your phone died. Heh.

What I meant by that was that overall, the discrimination's not that bad in the US. If you take the civil rights from that time, and compare it to today, it's definitely much better today.
