In Peasant's Quest, when you pull the monster maskus out of the well, the game tells you that the mask has been left over from a Pagan ritual, and then says, "Silly Pagans". Can this be considered racism?

Edit: Racism is the wrong word. But feel free to put in the correct word in place of words that have anything to do with race.

Um. No. Pagan isn't a race.

But, er.. props for the banner.

No... it's not racism. If it were anything... it's just a disparaging remark about paganism. But it's a freaking joke. Come on...

I know it's a joke and I don't really care that much, but I showed it to my pagan friends and they got really offended.

I think your pagan friends are slightly too sensitive for their own good.

I highly doubt that TBC would try to offend anyone. In fact, I am sure that they wouldn't try to offend someone. This is just making fun of the much older pagans who used masks and stuff for ritual. I do not think that anyone does that anymore. And yeah, where is Rosie on this?

No, I don't take particular offense to it.

I think it was just a poke at the way you might imagine a peasents opinion in peasent...days. It's really no big deal.

And I think the word you're looking for is predjudice, not rascist.

Roffle.

I wouldn't find it racist (or...attacking a religion) at all. And of course, it's not TBC's intention to be that. If they put in "Silly Christians" somewhere, I wouldn't be offended.

People get offended WAY too easily.

In the same vein, feminists might be offended because the only definite female character is the Baby Lady, and she's a gold digging crook!

...Except nobody in their right mind actually thinks that.

Nobody in this thread has been offended by anything, except possible anti-bovinism.

Though I bet that some people here would have been offended if it was "Silly Christians".

She means Occasional's friends, who were offended by it.

I find it slightly annoying that anyone would get offended by a little joke like that

For example, I've heard a lot of jokes about albinism (being an albino), and I find them quite funny. Some people just don't understand that people who make these jokes have no intention to offend. Really, i can't see how anything (almost) could offend anybody. They're words, they mean nothing until you give them a meaning.

It depends on intent, which you can usually get an idea of from the type of person that's saying it.

I'm guessing the TBC wouldn't mean offense, but a bunch of "anti-emo" type muppets from a website like http://www.sonic-cult.org , I'd probably take it to be a patronising comment.

[Edit by InterruptorJones: You know we're keeping track of these, right?]

[Edit by Rosie: Sorry I missed that one, it's really hard for me to help how I talk :/ Now I don't even remember what I said...]

I'm hoping those silly Christians woulda stopped watching and burned all of their Homestar Runner stuff when the email "Cold Ones" came out...

Most of us silly Christians get a good laugh from "silly Christian" stuff.. Why else would we watch the Daily Show and Colbert Report?

I can't speak on behalf of the whole religious umbrella, nor can anyone; but on behalf of a couple Pagans, we thought that "Silly pagans." was the best line in an amazingly fun and funny game/parody.

yes, it is a bit discriminatory, but i dont know if many pagans watch homestarrunner...most of the pagans nowadays are teens that want to stand out from the crowd as opposed to people who genuinly believe in the stuff...

Ummm, no, those are people that call themselves Pagan.. There's a difference.

We Christians should know that!!

WTF?!?!? Did I just come to Rose's defense?

Paganism is a bit of a sticky wicket, it is a very loosly structured assemblage of ancient beliefs that has grown into a kind of cult following. To me, one of the saddest trajedies of the ancient world was the virtual subjugation of a variety of barbarian European religions in the wake of the Roman Empire. Virtually all we know about our own ancestral (well, for us of Western-European descent) comes form Roman historians. This does not invalidate the "right" for others to follow a new, more humanistic assessment of very ancient rituals and rites but it does strike a distasteful chord with many followers of the popular religions, mostly for historical reasons but somewhat out of current societal ones as well.

I'm a Catholic, I go to church infrequently but that does not waiver my beliefs. I read the Bible from time to time (s'good read). If you don't believe what I belive, that's fine too. To me, faith in ones' self and the willingness to do good unto others is far more important than what name you call God.

That's not true either. Just because they're "fluffy" doesn't mean they're not pagans. Pagan is a broad term so it's hard not to be one. Really, Pagan always *was* a broad term if you think of all the different ancient religions, even though the term itself obviously comes after most of that.

I think he's talking more about the types who really don't know anything about what pagan beliefs involve, but know that if they say they're a pagan, they'll seem different without having to actually be different.

Posers, in other words.

And I have to say, anyone that finds anything in Peasant's Quest offensive might be touched in the head a little bit...
