For a white man's execution, where are the black protesters? Outcry on behalf of Tookie might be viewed as race-based.

Your thoughts?

I have an opinion, but I'm not quite sure how to voice it yet. I'll comment after I see what you guys have to say.

My guess is that it probably had something to do with the fact that he wasn't a nobel winning, converted gang member like Williams.

I don't know that the difference is due to race. I could be wrong, as I don't know much about the condemned, except that, somehow, I doubt he's much of a threat..

Wow, executing a "76-year-old blind and deaf man who uses a wheelchair", not even Texas would do that(that was not ment to offend).
But yes, I think that protest stuff was more over race than anything else.

I hink this didn't get as much attention because there aws nothing "special" about it. The other dude was the 1000th person executed, right? He obviously was going to get more attention then the 1001st person. It may also have to do with what StrongRad said.

That's the heart of what I was saying...

I don't think it had to do with race at all. It's sad the kinda thing these rags try to stir up.
Reading it, the article sounds like it switches authors, halfway through.

I'm-a read it again, just to see.

Sarcasm. But there are a lot of people who really feel that way. When's the last time you heard of a black person accused of being racist?

from before the sixties, sometime after the Ku Klux Klan Toned down to mainly the south in the 1900's, to present day America, although they are spread out accross Locations in the country, so no chapter of them is close to another chapter.
Also, some modern black gangs are racist, so are some modern White gangs, And so are Some Latino/mexican/Hispanic Gangs.

I agree that minority racists do exist, I just find it interesting that you never hear about it from the news or TV or movies.

It turns out he's not white...
Guess someone didn't do their fact checking. Shame on the paper..

This is a very anti-death penalty site, but it should give you some details of his case.

Wow... trolling again... are we?

At least Tookie tried to do something to make a positive change. I don't think that either should have been executed. Regardless, both committed murder so they should both be locked up for life.

I thought about that, too.
The paper that printed this did the same thing...

They were trying to make a "black and white" issue of this, when it clearly wasn't.

Funny..

Either way, Tookie was a different story..

Yeah. I'd say Ms. Cannick ought to reconsider her position in journalism for completely screwing up the whole situation-while in some cases it might have to do with race, the majority of the protest came from the fact that Williams had redeemed himself, not because he was black. Allen, on the other hand, hasn't done anything to redeem himself, and was just about as bad as Stanley, in terms of his crimes-killed his son's girlfriend for testifying against him in a robbery case, then, while in prison, asked an inmate to, during his parole, kill eight witnesses who had testified against him. Ms. Cannick ignores all this, and convolutes "support it because you're against the death penalty as you were for Stan [which, as I said, was wrong, because many were against it because of his redemption, even if they were for the death penalty otherwise]" with "how could you kill a blind and deaf old man?", and tries to pretend it's one argument, even though she clearly raises the issues of the death penalty's validity and of racism. Sloppy journalism...

That's my argument on her argument. As for the execution itself, I'm not sure what side I'm on in terms of the death penalty, so I really can't say.

Reading the articles would be a start.
Basically, this guy killed someone, then from prison, he ordered the murder of some witnesses who testified against him in the case that put him in prison.

The original article didn't say anything about what he did, I had to dig a little bit to find out..

You would think that a responsible journalist talking about a condemned man would, at least, say what he is convicted of...
