I agree; it's best to come on about Christ through baby steps and "gentle tugs", which are both 3story methods.

I can't tell you what to do... That's up to you. I don't support it... but it's your perogative and not up to me.

I'm saying that I just don't support the conversion idea (preaching Christianity or changing someone's religion goes against everything I beliveve... IMHO... it nauseates me). If you want to do it, it's up to you. I'm just saying be careful...

If you're doing this, Ian, let the people at the club initiate whatever conversations that are going to happen. If I were you, I wouldn't walk up to someone and say, "Hey, you look like you're not having fun. Want to talk about Jesus?"

Just wear the glow sticks, and if someone is interested, they'll ask you. Don't approach people. That's a good way to get pummeled.

Also, I wouldn't come out and TELL them that your ulterior motive for helping them is to convert them to Christianity. In fact, you shouldn't even have an ulterior motive. If they decide to ask you why you're doing this, tell them you're a Christian group aimed at helping people out, and perhaps they'll become interested in learning more about you. Don't lecture them.

Here's a good example. Near my house, there's a hospital run by the Catholic church. They provide anyone with health care, and don't try to convert people. But they are run by a Catholic organization.

See what I mean? Do good for the sake of good, not for an ulterior motive, even if that motive seems justified to you. If you openly try to convert someone after being nice to them all night, they may feel like you only befriended them to get a new convert, and they'll resent it. But if you demonstrate the kind of good things Christians will do for their religion, you may interest more people than you would with "witnessing."

Good point, Jitka. Rosalie explained something just like that to me on AIM last night.

I think your heart is in the right place with this Ian, but like others, I do worry about your safety more than anything. Nightclubs are NOT friendly places. But I applaud your efforts. I once had a professor point out in class to us that if Jesus came to our world today, you wouldn't find Him at a church, He'd be out at the dive bars and dance clubs or anywhere else you might find people needing Christ's message trying to convert people.

I was thinking today & I remembered 1 Corinthians 10:31:
Quote:
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
(NIV)
So I should give people rides & stuff for God, instead of for myself.

But thanks everyone for caring about my safety. :) I won't be able to start glow, if I ever do, for at least 3 or 4 years; that'll give me some time to work out so I can hold my own in a fight. ;)

If anyone's curious, this was the sermon during which I got the idea for glow.
