Sbemailman, yesterday I referred you to Rule #3c. I'm going to ask you to refer to it again.

I think a ban on assault rifles is good and well. Most ranges ban them anyway. Maybe if gun shows could let you shoot them it would be all right, but I don't think of a real reason to own one if you can't legally shoot one at ranges.

Well, what purpose do guns serve other than kill? Well, if you mean by inefficiently... they have to be .22s or something. Still, just like a Derringer, you can kill with any caliber gun.

Actually, .22s are as, if not more, effective as most other common bullet calibers. They often only have enough force to enter, but not exit, so they bounce around inside the body.

And it's not like they're for self-defense, either...

Yeah, but I really wonder how many everymen guns save a year (that the police couldn't save otherwise).

I don't know about you, but if I were going to jump someone in an alley and they turned around with a squad automatic weapon, I'd certainly back up off 'em..

My take on assault weapons is simple enough. I don't think the general public has a need to own them. If someone can demonstrate a need (or even a good "want") to own them, I say put them through some of the stuff that Pallor was calling for (psych battery), then let them own one.

I know I said I would steer clear of this place but... I like talking about this stuff too much  .

Well anyhow: Would it make you feel better if all the people who were killed with guns were pushed out of window? Why don't we just make it mandatory for everybody to pad their homes and offices? It's people who kill not guns. Guns are just one of the many tools that can be used for killing. I agree people don't need automatic guns and guns that can pierce armored cars, but some people like hunting and others are paranoid of of their mind and all of those people have a right to be those things.

For once (it's the apocalypse), I agree with Wes. They're just tools, homicidal maniacs could just find other weapons to use when they ban guns.

Sort of like Indiana Jones did that one time, when that sheik came after him with a sword.

If a thug with a knife comes at you, you can blow him away with your legally purchased, licensed, registered, background-checked gun, rendering his knife pretty useless.

And then you'd be sued by his family for using a "non-proportionate response". Sad, but that's the world we live in.

And I agree that a gun is a tool. People can kill people with shovels, knives, pillows, jump ropes... the list goes on.
