Fantastic. The Photoshop filter fight was particularly awesome. I'll probably fiddle around with the comic maker later. If I come up with any good ones, I'll post them. Probably.

It wasn't very funny, but it was still entertaining.

What was weird about this email was that they were actually focusing on the internet around them. Though sometimes they'll make little references to some vague web concept, they've mostly acted like the rest of the web doesn't exist in their flashes. This was a huge break from that, and they came out of their web-vow-of-silence spewing glorious sarcasm. Lots of refs to all kinds of things that it tickled me to see... web stuff, 80s stuff, and tons of refs to older H*R stuff. I'm gonna have to watch it again later just to make sure I'm not being hypnotized by the refs into thinking it was better than it actually was.

Yeah, it was great how this SBemail covered two generations of stupidity (crappy Two Gamers on a Couch comics, crappy fantasy comics that rely too much on Photoshop effects, and crappy sprite comics, as well as crappy 80s cartoons based loosely on video games). And the bit of self-parody where he harps on those who "ask for input from [their] viewers and rip that off for content" was chuckleworthy.

It hurts. It hurts so much.

Okay, in all seriousness...that was amusing, but making jabs at bad webcomics is like shooting fish in a barrel. Besides, while Strong Bad's generalizations about webcomic content being mostly gaming, fantasy, and general nerdiness are fairly true, there are tons of webcomics out there that are genuinely innovating in the medium. For example, Dr. McNinja, Starslip Crisis, or Dresden Codak.

Eh, maybe it's just me. I did crack up at the part where SB makes fun of his own get-the-viewers-to-supply-your-content approach. And the crappy photoshop filter fantasycomic. Guess I'd say it's a 3?

YES. VERY YES. I was wondering if he'd ever mention webcomics. Directly parodying Penny Arcade makes this automatically the best thing ever, even if I don't necessarily think that comic sucks as much as some people do. Partly I can't really have an opinion since I don't really, um, read it.

Anydangway, I liked the Photoshop effect battle and the use of the term "webwebs" (reminded me of this comic) and the sendup of video game based SatAM cartoons -- pretty gutsy considering there's a huge number of HSR fans who grew up with, and loved, those cartoons. Actually, considering HSR is allthetime throwing in random VG references too... hmmm. ;)

Strongstar Runbad’s Rate-It-Don’t-Hate-It-O-Tron™ 3000: Image

As I’ve said on HSRTL and homestar_rss, “Web Comics” had all the promise of “Website,” “Comic,” and “English Paper” with a [rather minute] fraction of the quality and staying value, and it’s a big disappointment considering how good “Slumber Party” was.

“Web Comic,” unlike “Road Trip,” isn’t an abomination, but it’s far from being a classic email.

Brilliant email. I loved all the little pop culture references that slip in (as well as the more obvious ones). I'm glad we got to an email where Strong Bad's imagination just runs wild (without much general storyline).

Does anyone else think thatthe "slickly drawn college roommates" who "make nothing but video game inside jokes" guys looked like the animations in the Roosterteeth comics (of Red vs Blue fame)? Strong Bad looks like Gus Sorola.

Great email. 5/5.

This sbemail was Super Special Awesome! 5/5! It was hilarious because it was so true, especially the part about bad sprite comics. Excellent! (I'd kill to see a short toon based on the Thy Dungeonman cartoon, too.)

That was pretty good. I quite liked the whole photoshop battle sequence and all, and the Satuday morning cartoon parody.
Overall, about a... 3 or 4 out of 5?

Highlights:

The Penny Arcade parody
PHOTOSHOP FILTER BATTLE

I also cracked up at the whole sprite comic thing, they can be pretty sucky, especially if you have no sense of humor and use MS Paint to make them.

4/5

I hereby give this the "BEST SBEMAIL EVER" award.

Seriously, this is one solid e-mail. Being around just this type of thing 95% of the time, I was already gleeful when I saw the title while doing my premail easter egg search at the wiki.

Attacking Penny Arcade, Bob and George, and various other in one webcomic... This one gets an awesome out of rating.

I love this one. It's pretty true. Although some web comics can be funny, I find alot of them just too geeky for my taste. Like I don't even get half the jokes in those things because they're all like hardcore nerd stuff.

Anyway, enough about the nerds, I love when Strong Bad Emails make fun of popular things. I also love it when they make fun of nerds. This one makes fun of both, so it's a super email!

Sigh. I guess I'll finish off by giving this email a 4/5. the only thing is that it wasn't random enough to be side-splitting, except for maybe the gamewads part.

While this one had its moments (yes, the Photoshop filter battle was hilarious, I agree), this one seemed dry overall. I didn't get a whole lot of laughs out of it, mostly because it only made fun of crappy webcomics, which don't get much readers anyway. It's like making fun of amateur Youtube videos that never get featured; there's no point.

I hope this wasn't indicative of TBC's opinion on webcomics, and moreso Strong Bad's lack of knowledge about the Internet (as shown in "website"). I read quite a few webcomics, but only those of good quality -- i.e., those shown here:

My list of awesome webcomics. (It's the second section down.)

Okay, this was awesome! I loved it mostly for the dig at 8 bit theater and other sprite comics. (though maybe a "prefer 7up anyway" refrence would've been funny?) My little bro and nephew are always talking about lame comics like those. I agree that it seems like a departure from previous policy of not dissing other people's websites, but the proliferation of these amateurish comics so deserved to be dealt with! Solid A(almost A+)

For some reason, that reminds me of the Garfield mutilations.

Count me as another one who registered here just to say this was the best SBemail since... well, a long, long time. As someone who every week somebody emails me a link saying "You gotta check out this webcomic", only to see yet another Penny Arcade or 8 Bit Theater ripoff, I applaud Los Bros. Chaps. The only thing missing was comics using clip art that substitute any sort of humor for nothing but swearing.

Notice there was no Homestar Runner in this one? The last email that didn't have Homestar in it was Redesign. And if you don't count the nobot Easter egg, the previous one without him was What I Want.

After watching this email a few more times, I kinda think that Secret Collect sounded identical to the perfume cloud in KOT's VOQPCS. And maybe we should start an article that shows the appearances of Generic Announcers/Voiceovers we never see (we've heard 'em in emails like CGNU, Fingers, Lackey (Easter egg), Geddup Noise, Theme Song, and Original). Just a thought.

Lastly, and personally, I find the Gamejox comic quite fascinating.

No different than Strong Bad’s ragging on free webcomics.;) I see nothing wrong with commenting one way or the other on entertainment provided free of charge, be it a television show or a webtoon. The way I see it, when a longtime fan expresses dissatisfaction with newer material that misses its mark, he’s actually showing that he likes the series.

But seriously, the trend in this thread is certainly not disapproval. Don’t mind me and the one or two others who dislike this email. :p

Hey, you're right! I think they excluded him because most of his gags involve interrupting Strong Bad, and that would have deterred from the webcomic jokes. That is unusual, though.

Definitely one of the best emails to date, especially because I read webcomics, but I can never find one that I can get up to speed with(except Order of The Stick)
