I'm still skeptical over the whole Compe thing, but I guess this emails was a good start for it. Not the greatest, but still pretty good.

3.5/5

Five G-type stars.

I fell off the chair seeing him realize he can use a picture of his butt as a background. The whole indie vs. independent movie thing was right on point (my favorite "indie" movie was a true independent movie, The Station Agent. I'd put the hideous "Juno" in the classic "indie" column. Love the new paperless paper. Just hot, bit-on-byte awesomeness throughout the whole cartoon. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm gonna pull a 180 compared to my post in the last Email discussion and comment that even though this Email fell back into the "Strong Bad says different ways to do one thing" routine, it wasn't too annoying due to how long it's been since they used that routine.

FINALLY! After a long rut, they brought back all the humor that they left out on previous toons. I think everything will be all right from this toon forward

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! All of you. This is probably the worst cartoon on the site. Not funny, not clever, and too many new changes. No more typing Strongbademail.exe anymore?! And what's with that paper! ! X-(

I dunno. I dislike the Compé even more now that I've seen it in action (see my previous complaint), but I did like his rant about the difference between independent films and "indie films". He nailed everything except the use of "art house divisions" of big-name movie companies (Miramax, Screen Gems, Focus Features, etc.) ... and even sort of touched on that with Pom Studios.

"I know you wanted us to have some film festival with all the characters, and you'd get to see little bits of everybody's movies..." Hey, wait a minute... he's right; that would have been more interesting! See, this is why the classic emails were classic: they were like actual cartoons and had stuff really happening, not just Strong Bad ranting about something with some visuals. But, maybe it's just as well that the Brothers Chaps are trying to make them more distinct from the 'toons. (See "Sbemailierized".) If that's the case, emails had better start being more rare than they used to. Like how Neurotically Yours is a more or less even mix of Foamy rants and actual cartoons.

Great jokes, still a bit disappointing. 'Cause he didn't do what he mentioned at the end.

And what's with replacing the paper and the typing?!?!? Pfft, that's too harsh...

Too Many new changes?
What there is a new computer which after he clicks on the Icon looks much like the older Email programs. And a little Popup to replace the Paper at the end.

That is not really that much changes just a couple of different visuals. If you were to actually watch the email toon more then focusing on the computer it was an OK toon. The the best but not the worst either.

Taking my mind away from the computer, it was still a pretty bad toon. i only CHUCKLED like twice. Chuckled is all caps because H*R toons make me laugh so hard, not chuckle.

I'm pretty sure command line programs work well even in Vista.

well, ill tell you what:
it was good enough to be the topic of my first post.

*long time watcher, first time poster!*

goods:
-lan watshisface, the generic overpaid actor
-SS weeping into a sax to make his soundtrack(or "soundtrack")
-senor cardgage is still working at the movies...
-pom pom's 5 or so new middle names
-a golden scale, evenly weighted on either side with gold bricks
bads:
-SB's butt jokes
-an overly-advanced new compy, but it was funny to see him marvel at the fact that he can change his wallpaper
BEST:
-the sighing noises his computer make. i have no idea why, but that cracks me up!!
'Uhm, is there any way to change the noise this thing makes??'
- :sb:

total score: 4/5. nobody wants to know about the hideous growth on your but, SB.

It's funny that as Strong Bad goes GUI, I'm going command line. The command line is so much faster for certain things.

I really should stop checking the site so often. Homestar's just not making laugh the way it used to.

"Too much of a good thing, is an awesome thing. But too much of an awesome thing is *dot, dot, dot* really dumb and bad."

Oh, the first bit about SB's fascination with Wallpapers, just about the "best thing ever, best thing ever!" :P
Loved this toon, specifically the close references to Juno and that whole indie genre. I wished we could see more of Homestar's epic monologue.
Oh, and the wide shot thing. Very clever. And classic.

Email was pretty funny, and I may try lightly weeping into a sax to see what that'd sound like, Also, Matt Chapmans face in the "Static..." poster was quite hilarious.
I dock it from 4/5 to 3/5 because of the new new paper and switch to GUI, let me remind you we are entitled to our opinion and do not deserve a "fail."
I would be better with the CLI to GUI switch if he just started on the prompt screen at the start of the sbemail, however that may not happen due to the awkwardness it would cause for the intro song.

Yes, a very good Sbemail :sb: :sb: :sb: :sb: / :sb: :sb: :sb: :sb: :sb:

I like the new Compé, with the wallpaper (an exageratted Strong Bad butt), the cursor and the Virtual Paper (ah-ha) BUT there´s still no random button.

P.S. Did anybody notice of the menus of Lappy 486 and Compy NT6 still uploading?

Yes. That's because the email list is saved in a different file and all the email menu's starting with the lappy link to that file.

Maby some programs, but his computer is from 1989 (as seen in compy catalog) 1 year before windows 3 so how can he be running vista?

MST3K Mantra, everybody. (Warning, may ruin your life.) Although I suppose if you guys have fun creating explanations for odd things then go ahead.

Anyway, why was there only one person mentioning the too-long wide shot. ):
(because apparently I'm in a hurry.)
That thing was brilliant! I think I spent the entire first second going "okay man this shot is kinda long OHHHHHH."
With this I demand the poll be replaced with the number of seconds it took people to understand the joke, with poll options 1, 2, 3+ and less than 1. Once the results are clearly in favour of 'less than 1' I will delete this post and deny its existence.

Actually, I think he's running some form of Linux. That green desktop background reminds me of OpenSUSE a lot. Or, if it really is from 1989, (And it might not be. Compy, Inc might be sending out a catalog with only one new computer in it, for all we know.) it could be Puppy Linux. Windows 2 has a much lower resolution than that, and has only 8-bit color. Strong Bad's computer looks to be at least 16-bit.

I don't think you should take that 1989 catalog date as evidence of historically meticulous research. The Compy 386 would have been an excellent computer in 1989. As for the Compe, I can assure you from personal experience that no flat screen color display of that type was available on a PC for love or money, and it would have made you the talk of the office to have a richly colored background image like that 20 years ago. Heck, I'm not even sure you could do that in Win2.1. Maybe on a Mac? Even in Win 3.1, a few years later, it would have probably clobbered your system performance to try. And I kind of think it was limited to 16-color VGA. We used to tell users to stop running the "clock" application to conserve system resources.

Also--no desktop shortcuts on PC's. You could minimize a running program and move the minimized icon wherever you wanted, but you rarely had the system resources to do much of that.

Heck, the 486 processor was only released in 1989. The Lappy would have been a super-secret "skunkworks" development project.

And, oh man, 8 character filenames. CONFIG.SYS. It's like I'm having PTSD just thinking back to those days.

The Compe is fragrantly a 21st century computer--there's just no two ways about it.

I liked it! It is going to take me a while to get used to the compe, but this email was awesome. I had the same loading issues as a lot of other people yesterday, but it is working fine today. I thought the send up of indie films was right on point. High five! 5/5

This was, quite honestly, the most Strong Bad-like I've seen Strong Bad since your edge. It seems like The Bros. were tasting the waters that were on the other side of the shark for about nine months and this is the proof that they are going to avoid going all the way over.

Seriously, for a while there Homestar was becoming Strong Bad and Strong Bad was becoming Homestar. That's why, besides the voice and visuals, the hremails and sbemails weren't really a big switch for me.

Other than that, the cartoon's concept was actually pretty great. Strong Sad was at the top of his game for once, he too hasn't been the same since your edge. We see a tiny little bit of the elusive Pom-Pom. Overall, if it wasn't for the direction the characters were going in for a while, this would probably just be a 4/5, but it's a 5/5 since it's the best I've seen in a while.

It was cool. It was great seeing Pom Pom's profitable aristry vs Strong Sad's pathetic innovation.

I love indie music! Meh!

While I have seen indie films, I can agree on their promotion. Blah.

5/5

You can use 256-color backgrounds in Windows 3. But if it can't be windows it can only be some kind of OS made by compy, (There is no taskbar at the top of the compé's screen so it can't be Mac OS either.) and linux oses don't use .exe files (at least not with special programs like wine).

This modern Strong Bad is going to take some getting used to. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually.

In the meantime, where does Experimental Film fall into the independent vs. indie film wars? It's made by Strong Sad with additional power supplied by The Cheat, so the budget is so low it's measured in mounds of pencil shavings, but TMBG provided the soundtrack, clearly a group Pom-Pom would pay a nice sum to for a cameo. Indie cred or Strong Sad's crudely drawn head?
