Post subject:  Abdi LaRue

hello folks,

has anyone come forward as Abdi LaRue, the author of the first Strong Bad email, Some Kinda Robot? I think he lives down the street from me, but I haven't worked up the courage to ask him. (The guys name is Abdi L, I don't know the last name for sure yet.)

I live in Minneapolis, but he may have moved since whenever the email was sent.

Mail him a letter. People enjoy letters. I enjoy letters very much. : D

I dunno. Abdi ISN'T that common a name, it's true, but more than one person has got to be named Abdi L.

Hmmmm.

Well, like Chekt said. Sending him a letter wouldn't hurt.

Do you live in San Diego?

I am aware that people move.

Anyway, I have to agree: Abdi isn't that common a name. But I agree: sending him a letter is probably the best way to ask.

How you'll go about doing that I have no clue though.

so about that first ever sbemail. how do you think that abdi larue guy even knew about the site and that you could e-mail strongbad? how did the word first get out about the site? advertising?

Probably gonna be merged with the Abdi LaRue thread. I hope anyway.

But that's a good question, longo. How DID the first people discover homestarrunner.com? How did SB's address even get out anyway?

The site had been up for a year and a half before the first Strong Bad Email.
some kinda robot commentary wrote:
MATT: I think that's right. And Abdi LaRue was— this was from before we started doing this, we sent out, was it a fan list?

MIKE: Yeah, it was like a list.

MATT: Yeah, the few, just the 10 people who had ever emailed us.

Also, news of the site spread through word of mouth. I guess they just told their friends about it, and it spread from there.

True, Shwoo, but how did people figure out you could even email SB? Was it like something TBC announced on their mailing list?

Author:  Shwoo [ Wed Dec 12, 2007 4:23 am ]
Post subject:

I thought they sent it out in their mailing list. I remember hearing something about how they were going to answer every email in character as Strong Bad, and also animate a short about Strong Bad answering one of the emails, but they quickly got too many for that to be feasible.

They discovered it when Yahoo played Homestar cartoons.

talked to my neighbor Abdi today, I asked if he had heard of the site, and he said he hasn't.

Guess this can be closed now.

Closed? I say hecks no! I'm actually intrigued by this. I say we keep this thread open for our general musings and search attempts for this elusive Abdi.

Just so long as this doesn't get spammy, I'm fine with this.

I've looked this up before on a couple of websites, and have found an Abdi LaRue in San Diego who's about 32 or 33 years old. There's no way of knowing for sure obviously, but I thought it was interesting. I found it on Intelius and White Pages.

Wasn't there some old games menu that had an 'email Strong Bad!' link?

EDIT: Oh, yep, here it is. That was the Games menu from 2001-2002. so it could've been up before SBEmail started.

Abdi is a guy? Sounds like a girl (like Abby or something). Shows how much I know. You'd think living in Houston w/ all the internationals around I'd know that. So what kind of name is it?

Oh, sure, everybody's interested in Abdi, but nobody's out there looking for Vinnie C. Everybody wants #1, not #2. *insert obligatory bathroom joke* But come on, the guy created Homsar! Well, not on purpose, but still! :P

I always kinda wondered if Vinny C still keeps up with Homestar Runner, and, if so, whether he glows with pride or does a self-facepalm every time Homsar appears. It'd be pretty weird to have a typo you made not only immortalized, but personified.
