One thing I found myself thinking about recently: I read that Andrew Hussie, who runs the mspaintadventures.com webcomic site, closed off submissions for the forum of suggested ways for the comic to go because there were so many submissions that he found himself just picking the one that matched what he was going to do anyway. I wondered how much that happened to TBC- as in, they decided what they wanted a SBemail to be about, and then searched through the inbox for an e-mail that would go with it. The e-mails "taken in a different direction" as the wiki says, might have been done this way. So, I wonder if the popularity of SBemails might have had some effect on the topics of the e-mails used, moving more toward what TBC wanted to do as opposed to what the best e-mails sent in were.

An interesting theory.

Didn't they mention this in one of their interviews? They said that occasionally one email would stick out and they would roll with it, but on occasion they would just search for an email about a subject they already wanted to cover. That was back in the 2000s. (Sorry for the lack of source. If anyone knows how to search for something like that on the wiki, be my guest).

They did mention in the Jeff Rubin Jeff Rubin interview, however, that they were still having original ideas for the site while working on other projects. Why they haven't acted on any of these ideas is anyone's guess. Maybe they were more moments nostalgia and less of an actual short in the making. Once TBC tried to actually make them, they realized what little content there actually was in their head.

Seems to be the most efficient way to go about things.

Considering how many of their emails don't actually answer the question, they probably use an email from the top of the list and do whatever the crap they want in true Strong Bad form.
