I have discovered H*R recently through a site which collected funny flashstuff and had a link to one of SB's emails. And ever since I have been regularly checking out the site and getting my mother and sister addicted to it as well.

Now at one point I ended up seeking out websites about H*R and one interesting one I found was this one http://starbase.globalpc.net/~bhz/cgi-b ... index.html Which listed SB e-mail secrets and also had popularity votes on each of his e-mails.

Personally though, I don't agree to some of what the popular consensus on the quality of SB's various e-mails seem to be. And I figured that with this new forum here, I'd give it a shot, register and ask everybody what they think is the most overrated and the most underrated of SB's e-mails is, and subsequently hope thats not some sort of taboo subject that I accidentally stir up by being relatively new to HRWike alltogether.

For me, the most underrated I think would be Colonisation, which seemed to be considered on the low end of mediocre. Whilst I think its pretty funny, if only for Homestar's 'I hereby declare eggs NOT to be a fruit!'

And the most overrated would definitly have to be Guitar, which seems to be very popular, but which I personally think is actually his WORST e-mail.

I'd also give a honorary mention to Dragon, which whilst quite a good SB-email really, is in my humble opinion, hardly his best. (I personally think Army, Kid's Book, Japanese Cartoon, Caper, Sibbie, Sisters, Stunt Double, Monster Truck, Island and well... quite a few others are all funnier then Dragon, even if it IS a funny one.)

I dunno, I'd say I like Strong Bad better when he didn't have to much sugar, but then again I did really like that unused e-mail thing where he broke his Clavicus..... Majorus... ;)

Overrated: Definitely Dragon. It's good, but there are so many that are better.
Underrated: Hmm... tough choice. I'm going to have to go with CGNU, the funniest email no one ever references.

MOS: "Dragon"
MUS: "Island"

I never hear anyone talk about "Island" anymore.

Most Overated: Dragon. (Sigh.)
Most underated: For me, it's Caffeine. That one was so funny, and yet nothing has been done to replicate any jokes from there. That one also marks a landstone in the very first time that Strong Mad has actually said a coherant serious question, which makes it all the more funny. But no jokes from Caffeine since then. Not even wood-davers. Surely TBC could mention some wood-davers in another cartoon!

According to the votes Caffeine WAS one of the most appreciated e-mails. And its one I like myself. Especially that part where Strong Sad dances around and slaps poor Coach Z :coachz: .

'Whaddayagotformecoach? Hey? Huh! Hey!'

I personally think it doesn't have many quotables though. I think its pretty much the same for Island, its really funny, (in fact one of my personal favorites!) but I couldn't think of any particularly great quotes from it. The 'Are we rescued yet?' thing was pretty funny, but I do think it was not something particularly unique to Strong Bad, as much of his other stuff.

That bid with Homestar doing the main page imitation was great though. :) Plus I just plain like Homestar himself since he reminds me ALOT of guy I used to know in hi-school, and his interactions with Strong Bad are doubly hilarious to me because of it.

I find myself paraphrasing Island all the time, using that whole "You're gonna need to get (blah blah) in a second" thing. It's awesome.

While I agree with you guys saying that "Trogdor" isn't the best Sbemail out there, I believe it's so popular because it's so catchy.

How many of you people have ever tried to draw Trogdor or have found yourself singing, "TROGDOR!!" ?

Personally, I think some of the earlier ones, like "1 step ahead" and "techno" are underrated.

I think "Impression" is extremely underrated, not to mention eminently quotable.

"Not beatin' around the bush this week."

"Bubs, the hot cold cuts was great." "Those were moist towelettes!"

"I'm cryin' on the inside!"

"Let's get this pratty started!"

"'Oh...some animal died.' That's somethin' he's always sayin, right?"

I think it's my favorite email.

I'm not sure about overrated, probably "Dragon."

Overrated: Dragon. Definately. It's good and all, but like a bunch of people said, there are better ones.
Underrated: Stupid Stuff. I dunno. I just thought this one was really funny. And not many people like it.

Overrated: probably Couch Patch. Everyone thinks it's hilarious but I just don't see it.

Underrated: Little Questions. IMHO, it's SB's best. "I'm've was to play football oftentimes! Play? Know. Best football results twice again."

Overrated: Sisters. It was okay, but not one of his best. I'm quite surprised it's so high on the leaderboard.

Underrated: Huttah! Why hasn't anyone mentioned this masterpiece yet?

Oh, I should have mentioned that too! I'm always quoting that one. Science!

Wouldn't that be creme brûlée?
It sounds to me like he says something like broulange, but we all know Homestar isn't a master of articulation. ;)

Yeah, I immediately thought of creme brûlée when I heard that as well. Homestar probably said "bernard" because, well, he's not that bright.

I agree with you on "sisters". When I first saw it, all I thought was, "Too bad for SB." I didn't find it laugh-out-loud funny.

True, he does come up with words like 'Marshelades'

And "melonade." I think he came up with that one ...

Presumably melonade is like lemonade, but made with melons. But he didn't make it up.

If you have ever seen the cartoon, Jumping Jacks Contest, (Which TBC have generously removed from the site), you will notice that Strong Mad and The Cheat are actually giving Homestar glasses of melonade. It's like Lemonade, only it's pink, and is apparantly made of melons. So, it's not just a typo. There's a supermarket near where I live named "Tesco", and it does value sodas (Y'know, 49p for a 2 litre bottle), and I have noticed Limeade, Cherryade, Orangeade and what have you, but never noticed if they do melonade. Chances are, they do. It must exist, even if it's not sold in shops. All you have to do is get juice out of a melon, and add all the sugars and addatives, and Voila! Instant Melonade.

That should end the discussion. The original one was about which E-mails were overated and underated. Just so you don't forget.

I can't think of any overrated e-mails, but lures & jigs is definitely underrated. Such a great e-mail. I mean - WHGT! JGTH! YES I'M AWESOME!
