Yo, me again. As much as I dislike this forum, the whiners would probably ride my you-know-what if I posted this on the wiki.

So, basically, I think Strong Bad's gone soft. Freakin' sell-out. To think, the best e-mail ever was "bedtime story," only a couple of months ago, and after that Strong Bad started doing stupid gigs for kids. They push him around and he doesn't even do anything about it, is that like Strong Bad? I hope not.

Almost all Compy e-mails were riotous, but now they're all demented hallucinations and gigs (not that they're completely unfunny by any means).

I seriously think that the Compy age was a lot better than this one, I don't know why.

I don't think he got worse, just a little more... random. I could use the classic format a little more, the new ones are funny, but I like ones a little less random.

I think they are about the same though, these are funnier, and the others are more classic.

His sense of humor changed a bit, that's all. I personally think that the newer emails are gut bustingly hilarious. Then again, so were the old ones. Heck, they're all funny! I don't think he's loosing his touch. :sb:

I think Strong Bad is still going strong, so I went with "better", mostly because his library of hilarious emails is constantly growing.

I haven't noticed any major decline in Strong Bad recently. Sure, some of them (like modeling, blech) are bad, but there are many more great ones. I think he's just as good, if not better, than he was in the Compy era. But definitely not worse.

My only complaint is that the very newest ones seem shorter than usual, probably because of the pre-150 rush. I'm thinking they will return to normal links after it, and even if they don't, I don't care too much, because these short ones are still awesome.

Optimists, unite!

He keeps getting funnier in my opinion. He keeps adding more and more jokes making fun of more and more things.

Joshua, you're kidding about the modeling one being bad, right? Well, then again, I guess you've had to have tried on all the beanies there were at Hot Topic to find out none of them fit you before to find the humor in "husky-headed kids." No, really, it happened, and I'm thirteen. These beanies were made for adults.

I will say that Strong Bad does appear to be softer now than he did several years ago, but this is mostly attributed to the time that we've spent with him over all the toons and sbemails, as more and more facets of his characteristics come out. I don't think that those make him worse off, but rather add to the depth of him as a character.

He's not even mean anymore. Seeing him help The Cheat get to bed was cute, but now it's just getting out of hand. My brother sent him an e-mail and told him that he's gone soft and that all he does now is chores for kids who e-mail him. He's got the right idea.

Ah, poor, soft Strong Bad. It seems like just yesterday you were smashing Strong Sad into the roof, burning Marzipan, rioting against the King of Town, and literally tossing Homestar Runner out of your house.

Oh, wait...

And he obeys the emailer's requests because he chooses too. It's the point of his email show. He's always been obeying the crazy requests of his fans, all the way back in "depressio" and "halloweener". What about "caffiene", "montage", "kids' book", and all those classics? How the crap did it change after "bedtime story"?

You might want to doublecheck your arguments before posting them as facts.

(And I wasn't the only one who disliked "modeling". Opinions, man.)

I seriously don't notice any significant personality changes in Strong Bad to indicate he's gone "soft". Maybe I would if I paid close attention, but as for right now, ehhh....

As for the quality of E-mails themselves, there wre small periods where it seemed to me they might be in predictable decline (space program and portrait, two of the lamer ones), but I think most of the recent ones are generally about as consistently very good quality as ever.

Naaaaaah...I think we are getting to know him better. Ya know? character development anyone?

But no matter what people say, Strong Bad will always be Strong Bad. Whether he's gone soft or not shouldn't really matter as long as he continues to please his audience and stay true to his character.

I personally am rather enjoying seeing different sides to him. :sb:

That all depends on how you look at it. I mean, the first three or so weren't all that funny. So its absolutely progressed from there. The lappy ones arent quite as good as his previous compy. Except Highschool! that one was amazing!

Personally I don't think the emails have been as funny lately...

It is apparent, however, that they are experimenting with a lot of new kinds of things, so you can see that they are trying. They don't want to become strictly formulatic--Compy Era was great, but they can't do that kind of stuff forever. It's good that they're trying new things, they just haven't hit pure gold yet. They'll get there though, I think.

I dunno. While I wouldn't say the emails have been getting worse, some of the latest ones are...strange. From "virus" onward it seems like H*R's style changed somehow....it's not the straight-up humor you see in the earlier emails, it's more...obscure and inside-jokey. I dunno if this is a bad thing, or not.

(man, i use waaay too many elipses. 3 in one post!)

Yeah, the first 149 bites of dirt were'nt so good. Maybe the next one will be better. XD

Anywho, yeah, I think that Strong Bad is indeed gradually getting softer. This, however, is not a bad thing. Like that other guy said, it's just character development. And I welcome it!

I think the recent e-mails were below the bar, so to speak, but I don't think they're horrible. It would be one heck of a stretch to say that Homestar has jumped the shark, and the cartoon is still very entertaining and negates all hatred of Mondays I once had. :P

However, I look forward to 150 because I get the feeling their next DVD release is on the horizon, be it 131-150 or Everything Else II.

No offense to Strong Bad or TBC, but I think they've gotten worse. I used to like the strong bad emails a lot more. I'm not saying they're not funny anymore. I just think the humor has changed a lot, comparing to how they began. The humor they had in the beggining was a lot more "My kind of humor".

I happen to dig the newer e-mails, mostly because I love nonsensical, unexplainable behavior. But my favorite e-mails are from the compy/tandy era.

I think ol' SB's gonna even out in the end.

Well, i think that they were really on a role right after animal, then they started getting absoulutely tear jerking hilarious. But i think that right after pop-up, they started getting a little worse, and thats unbelievable because the one before that (myths and legends) was one of the best i've seen in a while. But im sure that strong bad isn't losing his touch, candy bar was very funny in my opion. But yeah he seems a bit nicer, start sending him emails saying that hes going soft and needs to go kick The Cheat or something.

By the way, i don't know what your talking about, i thought ing was REALLY funny.

I think he's sorta evening out. Lady...ing is the only cloud in the otherwise sunny email sky. Yes, the old cartoons sucked, and yes, sometimes things are so bad that they're funny, but not lady...ing. It was just long and boring. The other emails have been great, narrator being among the best of any era in my opinion.

I would say that the humour is actually getting better not worse. I usually find myself watching the new Sbemails a lot more often then the older ones. I watched the pulse interview with TBC a a few weeks ago and they said that they stopped visting forums when someone said the Homestar Runner had jumped the shark and they thought it was ridiculous. Don't forget that interview was quite a while ago now too. I think there will always be knockers. I'm just glad that I still get a kick out of thier work and that they are trying to do different things and not just rehashing the same tired old jokes ala The Simpsons.

KoRn is no place for for a Mighty Warrior, or a true SoulJah! Eh, sorry, I just like heavy metal jokes (yes, I called it heavy metal). Anyway, I retract my statements against the nü-sbemails now, they're funny now.

I agree, I really almost gave up on Homestar Runner but then email #149 was so funny it gave me faith in the page again. Now with this email, I don't know anymore. I think the Brothers Chap are just trying to hard and forgetting their roots.

I think that Strong Bad Emails aren't losing their edge. They're way better than the Tandy emails, there were only a few good ones there.

Definately. While most of the Tandy-era emails were sticking too much to the basics, the early to mid Compy-era emails had Strong Bad going a little more out-of-the-box in his way of answering emails - at this point, the format was perfect if you'd ask me. Then, around the time 'date' was published, things started to go downhill... granted, there were a few funny ones after it (kids' book comes to mind), but basically most of them had an increased randomness I didn't appreciate; this aspect has since increased to levels I find disturbingly unrelated - it's like listening to someone mouthing off one random word after another in no context whatsoever -- no fun (at all).

Most of the (early to mid) Compy-era emails had a perfect balance - a bit of mocking, irony/sarcasm, bashing (including Strong Bad being his self-imposed omnipotent self) and a randomness at a level which still allowed the reader to follow the chain of thought, from one subject to another.

And yeah, the malevolence of previous emails has disappeared almost completely. Today's Strong Bad would never punch Homestar while being invisible -- how sad indeed.

Nope, I think he's regaining it after that humor slump of early 2005.

I agree with alberto. They were a little slow in mid-2004 and mid-2005, but around the end of the year and the beginning of this one, they just... got better. And funnier. Like they'd had a cold for a long time and suddenly were cured! I think 'Virus' was the ushering-in of a new era, I've liked most emails since that one, with the possible exception of 'boring(really)', and 'technology'.

Maybe the summers are just sort of a slump for them?
