"Sergeant McLain has been detained." A voice came back. "Roger that, what is your location?"---"Level one, corridor 18, Colonel Smeg's office." He replied. "Sorry about this sir." Smeg replied, asking a question. "Quite alright, what happened?" The soldier replied "This man didn't want to join, after Brigadier Gen. Montgomery ordered his transfer, the man's abilities were being 'held up' by his being in a weapons facility." Smeg turned to the now quiet Bryant and asked. "What do you have to say?" And before he could answer. "Unless you join our group, you'll be court-marshaled for disobeying orders."

Jeremy walked away as soon as the show was over. Best not to get involved, he thought. He returned to his errend, then retired to his quarters for the remaining time.

"Um, well, you see sir, they were roughing me up when ever I said I wanted to finish up a job before I went! That didn't give me a very good impression so I went berserk I guess. They say I'm a mastermind, but I just wanted to stay." replied Bryant while looking at the floor.

Smeg looked up his profile. His jaw dropped in surprise. "Take him to the brig."

After he was taken away, Smeg decided to have some lunch in the garden. After eating, he went over to ask Turbine a question. "I wonder if he knows this other guy?" He thought to himself as he approached Turbine's work area. The door was open, and he walked in to see the Captain bending over a work bench...

Turbine turned and noticed the Colonel walking towards him. "Colonel" he greeted "I would salute, Sir, but I'm tinkering with a very delicate piece of equipment."

"Someone else." He replied, adding. "A man in the Weapons development program, he's the one that made the new sniper rifle. Anyway, his name is Bryant McLain."

The Captain thought for a moment "McLain?! AAAAAHHGGBBLBLBBLBL!!!!" Something in the machine he was working on blew, sending a painful electric jolt that knocked him off his feet.

"You okay?" Smeg asked the Captain. Then he said. "I'll take you to the medical center, they'll will treat that burn. But what do you know about McLain? He's been given orders to transfer, but he says he has a project to finish before he'll come. I want you to look him over and see if he's good enough for our group."

The Colonel helped the Captain out the door and down the hall to the med center. "He's in the brig at the moment, he got somewhat violent at the idea of being transferred."

"Research and development engineers can get very attached to their projects, sir" Captain Turbine replied "It must have been very important to him if he was that assertive about it."

"Yes, I thought about that, but it didn't have any current projects other than a minor power-pack upgrade for a laser pistol." Smeg replied.

"It's possible that it's still classified, sir" the Captain added "Not very many people knew about the S.O.M.M. Project until a month ago."

"I hadn't thought about that." He replied. "I don't think I made a very good impression, I think he would be more willing to talk to a fellow engineer, so, if you don't mind, I'll leave you to get your burn taken care of and then go by and talk to him, I have some rather important paper-work concerning the weapons used by our group." He finished, waiting for an answer.

Captain Turbine got his hand looked at, and got a pain killer, and left for the Brig. Upon arriving, he signed in as a visitor and was shown to McLain's cell. "Excuse me, McLain?"
