The guard said: "You'll have to take that up with the boss. I'm not authorized to make those kinds of transactions. I can let you up if you wanna go see him, though."

"Sure thing" Eruantian replied whilst handing the guard his Spatha.

"I think I may actually know where we are, it is a place called the City of Doors" announced Michael
Andrew curious about the location, asked "What is this place like?"

"I don't know much about this place but I'll try to remember what I read from a book about planes." he said, "It is a plane linked to all planes, the links can be a variety of things, from arches to paintings. It is ruled by a mysterious "Lady of Pain", she doesn't really interfere except in emergencies but she manages to keep the city "neutral" by doing things blocking off access for deities yet this place is still a bit violent due to the wide range of personalities. I also think the people here can be a bit arrogant to people from our plane"

The guard took the Spatha, catalogued it, tied a numbered tag to the hilt, and then handed Eruantian a ticket. He said: "There you go. Eh, we're still cataloguing all the rest of your stuff. I'll send an itemized list up to the boss as soon as we're done with that." He turned and unlocked the door, and then opened it. "Good luck to you, sir."

"Thanks" Eruantian said as he briskly made his way into the tower and up the stairs to the talismonger's workroom.

Maxwell paused, about to enter the stairway. He looked more than a little shocked. "You mean... we're no longer on Scara Brae?" :O "I thought.. I mean... I figured we were some sort of wizard's tower or something. The City of Doors, eh? Yikes. This day just keeps getting stranger and stranger."

Maira said: "You know, I was in The City Of Doors once, a long long time ago. It was in my previous life, before I died. If memory serves, one of these doors should lead us back to where we came from... assuming we came directly here."

Marcus tried one of the doors, the one that looked out onto an endless plane of fire. "Oooohhhh... look at that. It's like a big fireplace, but the door isn't hot at all. Should be hotter-than-all-hades, but it doesn't feel hot at all." He opened the door. Instantly, a wave of heat poured through the open door, and a deafening roar and crackle accompanied it. Marcus (a little smoky, but otherwise fine) quickly closed the door with a "Yipes! I like the heat as much as the next lizzardman, but that's just ridiculous."

Farnham tapped one of the windows: "Glass.. it seems to be ordinary glass. But no glass I've ever seen could stand up to that much heat without cracking. Gotta be some sort of magic involved."

Captain Sealem said: "Not necessarily. There are some Dwarven smiths who can make a kind of glass that won't melt or crack even if you dip it directly into lava. I've seen it with my own eyes, and there wasn't any magic involved with it, as strange as that may seem."

Farnham just scratched his head and said: "Fascinating."

Maxwell said: "Ok, then, let's try some of these other doors and see if any of them lead anywhere... normal"

When Eruantian reached the top of the stairs, he went through the open door. The room was filled with most of what it had been last time, but there wasn't anybody in the room. However, Eruantian did find a note tacked to the back of the door, which read: "Garnam: I've gone to investigate some very strange occurrences at a mountain range on the mainland. If that Eruantian fellow comes back, have him sign forms 34b-1 and 16c if he wants to try out the Helm of The Planes I left for him. If I don't return tomorrow, use your key to unlock both the red and black lanterns in the basement and then lock yourself out of the tower. Inter arma enim silente leges." It was singed in ink with the signature of the gnomish merchant Eruantian had met here before. Eruantian was unsure of what language that last part was, or what it meant.

<GM's Summary: Um...sure. But I can haz ceezburger?

<<The party came to Squiddy Man Mountain. Eruantian discovered that one of the rings he took off Aclbar is a ring of teleportation. After bouncing around the realms (with a quick side-trip to somewhere really rather unplesent in the underdark), Eruantian ended up in the homeland of the Gnomes; the island of Latan. After a very pleasant visit with a Lataneese talismonger and his tower gurards, Eruantian got back to Squiddy Man Mountain. The Party then went in a "secret" entrance that Tem happened to knowabout. Turnas out, the city above and it's mines below are occupied by invaders: Namely, the Drow and their Illithid allies. Prosper was disguised by Micheal as a Drow male, and then Tem, Prosper, and Acedia were sent on ahead to spy on the surface city and try and make contact with the resistance while the rest of the party waited below in the secret passage. Long story short, it turns out the the head of the resistance in the city is a Gnome named Jay, who also happens to be the captain of a gnomish airship. His airship is actualy a warship belonging to the Gnomish Air Navy, but it's cleverly disguised as a simple merchant ship. He agreed to put Tem, Prosper and Acedia in touch with the resistence cells in the city. He also provided them with a way to posin the Illithid's primary food supply: There's a warehouse in the mining level that contains a stockpile of cow brains, and if it can be posined it would seriously hamper Illithid activity throughout the region.

Meanwhile, the rest of the party dealt with a few Drow patrols, and then encountered some High-Flayer barbarian rebels in disguise. After a bit of misunderstanding and explanations all around, the barbarians agreed to work with the party.

Acedia, Tem, and Prosper went on to make contact with a High-Flayer resistance cell hiding in the sewers, from which the got a map of the mines and the sewer pipes. The then sent a message back to the main party explaining about their plan to sabatoge the Illithid's cow brain supply. After reciving a reply from Captain Sealem giving their plan the go-ahead, they went down the sewer pipes and are presently poised to come out of the sewers near their objective.

However, a pair of Drowess (female Drow) mages found and attacked the main party: One Drowess engaged Micheal on the Astral plane, while the other somehow escaped detection and made magic earthquake collapse the room the main party and the friendly barbarians were in. The Barbarian shaman mysteriously disappeared just before the earthquake, Horin and a single barbarian warrior managed to get out just before the whole place collapsed, and Eruantian managed to teleport himself to a certain Lataneese talismonger's tower... and just in the nick of time, too.

Marcus, Micheal, Maxwell, Farnham, Taryn, Quinn, Andrew, Captain Sealem, and Maria were caught in the cave-in and should have been crushed to death... but they unexpectedly found themselves in a room in The City Of Doors instead. Marcus just opened a glass door that lead to a very very hot, very very on-fire not-very-nice-place-to-be.. and then the quickly stepped back and shut the door. (He may be a little slow sometimes, but he's not suicidal.) Turns out, Maria was in tthe City Of Doors once before, back during her first life. She says that there should be a way to get back to where they were before, if they can just find the right door.....

Meanwhile, Horin became possessed by an Avatar of his god Gorm Gulthyn... preventing Horin's body from being killed by the throngs of mounted Drowess warriors armed with lances that killed the lone surviving barbarian warrior. In fact, Horin was run through with a lance, but thanks to Gorm Gulthyn, Horin didn't die. He wasn't even injured. This probably has something to do with the fact that the Drow are atempting to bring the Spider-Queen to this world... again.>>

Now, wher's muy chezzeburre?>

"Okay I guess I'll start with that wooden door" said Michael, he opened the door to only see a void and afterwards remarked "Well I found nothing...literally."

Andrew opened a stone door to see the biggest swarm of rats he'd ever see in his life in an area dirty as the vermin themselves, he immediantly closed the door only a few moments after opening it, with only the words "I don't think this is the right door..."

The guard took the note and said: "That's odd... the boss didn't say he was going anywhere today. But, this is his signature, all right. Whatever he went to investigate must have been really important. The Elvish at the end means "Laws are silent in times of war."
The other guard said: "Huh... I don't like the sound of that. Ominous."
The first guard replied: "Ah, you worry too much. It's probably just his weird sense of humour again. You know how he gets. Anyhoo... lemme go get those forms to fill out."

The first guard went into the tower and came out a few minutes later with a bundle of paper. Eruantian looked at the paper and was surprised to see that the words on the paper were... strangely wonderfull. The style of the hand that had written these words was amazingly precise. He thought perhaps that whoever wrote all this must have been some advanced form of calligraphy as well as some unknown method of scribing.

The guard handed Eruantrian a quill pen and said: "Sign here please.. and here... and here, and once more by the 'X'... and intital here. OK, it's all yours. Have a nice day." Strangely, despite all that writing, the pen didn't run out of ink.

Every one started looking through the various doors, trying each one in turn but to no avail. It all lead somewhere unfamiliar.
However, Maria looked through the windows. She tried window after window, looking for something familiar. Finally, she stopped at one of the windows and exclaimed: "There... look, that's Thurendel, the Druid...." She pushed and pulled on the window, trying to open it, but it wouldn't move. "It's stuck! Help me open it, someone. I don't dare smash it... no telling what that might do."

<OOC> Eruantian knows Elvish. It is his second language in a country that doesn't use it and has almost no education to speak of, but he managed to scrape together enough books from various travelers who came through Targos to learn enough to get by in a conversation. He can't speak it as well as he can understand it, seeing as how he had no elves to speak with. </OOC>

"E-R-U-A..." Eruantian pronounced each letter as he wrote them. His penmanship was not much to speak of, so he made a couple of irreversible errors. "Dang it. I spelled it Eruantrian. Imagine if someone had read that and thought I would answer to Rian for short."

Eventually, he managed to sign each line put before him. "Alright. Well, if that will be all, I'll have my sword back" Eruantian said as he gave back his ticket. The guards then handed him both his sword and the Helm of Planes. Eruantian donned the helm, but he kept his sword unsheathed, just in case. With the remainder of his equipment secure in a single bag tied to his belt, he thanked the guards for the help they had offered. "Tell your boss I said thanks for the helm. Perhaps I can return the favor when... if the drow are defeated."

With that he said farewell and commanded the ring of teleportation to take him to Capt. Sealem.

As soon as Eruantian commanded his ring to teleport him to Captain Sealem, time itself stopped dead in it's tracks, and Eruantian's intelligent ring spoke, saying: "Emergency Time Stop! User Eruantian, be aware that your plan of action is not as safe as you thought is was. If you use your currently intended mode of transport, then once you are in The City Of Doors none of your rings will be functional until you leave The City Of Doors, What is worse, this ring will not be able to follow you to your intended destination and will likely become lost somewhere in the vastness of Astral Space. A safer course of action would be to use your new Helm of The Planes to transport yourself to The City Of Doors, and to then use your ring of teleportation to find Captain Sealm. That way, all your rings will retain their functionality and this ring will be able to stay with you. Do you still wish to proceed with your original plan of action?"

Eruantian was taken aback by the ring's statement and ability to stop time itself. "What? No!" he yelled "CANCEL THAT ACTION! CANCEL!"

Suddely, time resumed it's normal flow and Eruantian found himself teleported to the top of the Talisonger's tower instead. His ring said: "Action cancelled: Teleport redirected to the top of the nearest safe structure."

Eruantian found himself on a circular roof made of bricks, boarded on all sides by a square-notched parapet approximately three feet high. The roof sloped slightly to one side, but not much at all: Just enough to keep the rain from collecting in one spot. On a heavy bronze tripod by the parapet rested some sort of tubular contraption made in the shape of several tapered tubes joined together in a complicated fashion with gems inset into each end of the tube. Next to that was a simple wooden chair and a small table. A trap door in the floor was closed, and Eruantian could see a lock set into it. Eruantian had no idea what the tube-thing was, but it looked like it the handiwork of the gnomish Talismonger.

"Bless my soul" Eruantian thought to himself "What a strange contraption." Eruantian wondered if there was anything to press, pull, or look through on the device. As any curious person with enough Wisdom would have done(in other words anyone who isn't a dim-witted lizardman :p ), he decided to look it over before touching it.

<OOC> Eruantian makes a SEARCH Check.

Result = 16

I know we aren't using core rules, but I just can't help myself. </OOC>

Eruantian managed to figure out that the device was some sort of tool for augmenting one's sight... but without actually using it, that's all he could deduce.

Looking through the small lens, Eruantian could see a blurry image... which slowly came into focus and Eruantian's eyes adjusted. He could see clouds... he panned the device around a bit and he could see more clouds. And then he saw a large blurry shape move into his field of view. A moving shape. A winged shape. A shape coming at him rather fast....

Eruantian looked into and out of the Sight-Augmentating Highly Expensive Gnomish Device to alternate between normal site and aided sight in the direction that this thing was coming from.

Eruantain quickly realized that it was only a bird... some sort of high-flying bird of prey, apparently.

He heard a voice from behind him. It was making an ::Ahem:: noise.

:snif snif:
Marcus could smell forest-type scents leaking in from the window Maria was trying to open: It smelt like lots of birds, grass, trees, small animals... and there was a human male in there somewhere.
:sniiiif: Marcus could tell that Thurendel was the human he was smelling. He remember the old Druid's scent from that last time they'd met.

<Gm's Note: Yes, Marcus' sense of smell really is that good.>

"Hay guys! I smell something familiar!" Marcus motioned to the rest of the group. "Smells like a magic man we've seen before. I never know what they're called. This one smells really oak-y."
