A fantasy story-telling game. Rules:
1. You only control your character and NPCs you interact with.
2. You cannot be all-powerful.
3. Use <ooc> when out of character.
4. Treat other players with respect.
5. Your race and class must be reasonably compatable. A little-elf cannot be an axeman, for example.
6. People who talk nonsense are automatically ignored, and their actions mean nothing.
To play, you need to:
1. Pick a race.
2. Pick a class.

Races:
•Humans
•Elves (human sized elves)
•Little-elfs (elves that range thumb size to waist height)
•Lizard people
•Fish-like humanoids
•Dwarves
•Fire Monster
•Golem
•If you would like a different race, ask me and I may approve it.

Classes:
•Swordsman: can use swords, quarterstaffs.
•Archer: can use bows, blowguns.
•Wizard: can use magical staffs.
•Axeman: can use axes, clubs, warhammers, flails.
•Healer: can use magical staffs; cannot attack, only use supporting spells.
•Thief: can use daggers, handclaws.
•Beastmaster: can use summoning instruments.
•If you would like a different class, ask me and I may approve it.

Setting: A place where swords and magic are common. No modern technology.

I'm going to be a elf (human-sized elf)/human hybrid swordsman. Named...Taol.

The Story Begins...
Taol the elf/human hybrid exited the temple. He looked down the street at the armory, thinking that he needed a new sword. At the thought, his one pointed ear quivered, while his other remained motionless.
He entered the armory and looked at the selection on the wall. He saw one that caught his eye. He took it down from the rack.

Isn't this just like Operation: storyteller?

Ashamedly, yes. But I wanted to take part in something like that, but did not want to read 80+ pages to catch up. And I didn't wan't to jump in in the middle... The difference is, classes are limited to certain weapons. I'M SORRY FOR WHAT I'VE DONE!

[I'll be Jeor, a human.]

Jeor the swordsman cast a jealous glare at the new customer. While his collection of swords numbered in the high thousands, his collection of usable swords was null. Hesitating slightly, he said, "Sir? That sword you just picked out? That was just the one I wanted... Do you know where I may obtain another?" He waited for a reply, hoping that the elf/human thing would be stupid and subservient enough to give him the sword, which happened to be the highest-quality one on the shelf.

Taol looked up. Having located the source of the voice, he cast his eye back over the rack. His ear quivered. "There, that one," he said, pointing at a similar sword on the rack, "it's almost identical." He went back to examining the sword.

Jeor took the sword, carefully laying his eyes upon each and every minuscule facet of its blade and handle. "What are you talking about?" he said. "This is nothing like what I wanted. The blade's the wrong alloy, it's got scratches everywhere, and the handle is everything except ergonomic."

Jeor glanced at homerstarrun70fireboy, one of the local lizard people, and then glanced away. "And what would you be doing here?" he inquired.

<OOC>Ignore him.</OOC>
Taol didn't want any trouble; he got an idea. "I'll tell you what," he said, "I have some extra money. I'll pay you however much the local smith will charge for an identical sword. In exchange, you give me," he looked over the human, "your shield."

<ooc>Alright.</ooc>

Jeor was not ready to give up his shield. The shield, emblazoned with the heralded crest of his family, held great value; it had been passed on through the generations, and he would never have let it go. "Actually, on second thought, I'll take that identical one." He took the sword from the shelf and was on his way.

Taol watched the man go, paid for the sword, then started and raced to catch the man. When he caught him, he said, "How 'bout a trade? That sword for this one?"

{What do you mean, painstaking work of 5+ years? A fire monster is fire in a humanoid shape.}

{ You fully admit to basing this on Operation: Storyteller. One of my characters is basically one of these "fire monsters" of yours. The only difference here is the fact that mine has skin, while yours apparently does not.

I have been working on and developing that character for over five years. Over six, actually.

So I'd appreciate it if you would not claim a shoddy knock-off for your own use. }

{Come on, be nice. I had no idea you came up with fire monsters. I fully came up with it myself. And you are correct, mine has no skin.}

<ooc>Zephyr, quackingstick said he didnt read operation storyteller. And fire-breathing monsters have been in stories for centuries, so it wouldnt make sense to accuse anyone of plagiarism. And calling this a cheap knock off doesnt help either. Operation: storyteller isnt the first collaborative story game. Now let's get back to the game.</ooc>

<ooc>It's not fire-breathing, man. It's actually MADE OF FIRE! Thank you for your selfless defense of me.

{ bwave: I was calling the "fire monster" a cheap knock-off. Not the game itself.

Quackingstick: I never claimed to have come up with fire monsters. It just seemed to me that your fire monster concept and my spectre character appeared to have a lot in common. I suppose I don't have much of an argument anymore at this point as these do seem to be your creation. Sorry for the interruption. }

Meanwhile...

Across the country, in the "enchanted" woods far from the armory, Kain, a human, walked leisurely. Some might call him a thief, but he preferred to think of himself as a rouge. He would not, however, refrain from stealing if the need arose.
Most humans and many other races feared to enter these woods, thinking the trees themselves were Fay and sinister. Kain knew better. The woods simply held--surprises--ones that could be avoided with proper knowledge and respect of the woods.
Kain bent to pick up a fallen stick. It was not particularly strong, certainly not a good cudgel. But Kain knew he would need it. Somehow, he knew when he would have need of certain items, though he did not know how he knew nor how he would have to use them. It was an ability he had had since he was a child.
But that was another story altogether.

Jeor, meanwhile, was rather puzzled at Taol's offer, to say the least. "But why do you prefer this sword to the one you have? Mine is barely adequate for slaying the golems that inhabit the forest of Arctarius." Looking at the two swords, he shed his puzzlement in lieu of plain old greed. "OK," he said after a slight pause. "I'll take it."

Kain, far away in the forest of Arctarius, fingered his simple dagger. It was a crude, unenchanted weapon, but Kain liked it. He had learned not to trust magic long ago. He had recently found what many would consider to be a better weapon several days ago--one of the few swords able to slay the wood golems of Arctarius--and keep them slain. Most blades only dispersed the golem's essense, and the golem would appear later. But this sword could completely obliterate any type of golem--permanently.
As with most magical weapons, however, there was a side effect. When worn for long enough, this sword would gradually turn the bearer himself into a golem--a mindless construct enslaved to any greater mind. Kain did not fancy such a life--so he had his own way to deal with the golems. They were simple and vulgar--and could be easily outwitted.
Thus, Kain had not held on to the magic sword long. He had sold it to an eager armorer who had only wanted to make a profit. Kain had left the area immediately, glad to be rid of the sword but hoping, by the time the enchantment was realized, he would be long gone.

Taol switched swords with the human, said goodbye, and departed. Looking at the old sword, he thought, "How could I have missed it before? This sword..."

Taol looked back, and seeing the man depart, shouted to him, "I suggest you take that sword to the temple." For that matter, so should I, he thought.

Kain ran through the woods, pursued by an angry wood golem. He had been dwelling too much on past events--and had not noticed as he approached the golem's nest. Now the disturbed creature chased after him relentlessly.
Thinking quickly, Kain hefted his thin branch. He held it behind his back and wedged it between two trees. Not surprisingly, it fit perfectly. The golem charged without noticing the thin stick and ran headlong into it, a small knob poking the golem in the eye. This distracted the monster long enough for Kain to escape.
How he had known to pick that particular stick, with its certain length and the knob in the perfect place, Kain did not know. Things seemed to work out for him that way. He often just knew he would need things, even if he had no idea why until the need arose.
But another question rose in his mind--why had the golem chased him like that? Usually he could trick them into leaving him alone, but this one had given him no chance. Suddenly, Kain twisted his palm in front of his face. A tiny scar marked the very center of his hand. He had thought this to be a mere scrape, but now he realized what it was. Though he had discarded the cursed sword, it had branded him. The golems thought he was a golem-hunter, and would be after him as long as he lived.
He had only one choice. He would not be able to dodge the golems forever. He would have to return to the old armory, steal back the sword, and destroy it. Only then would the mark depart.
I knew i never should have meddled with magic he thought regretfully. This would be a great inconvenience. Whoever had bought the sword would be loathe to lose it, and would probably not believe it to be cursed. But Kain would have to destroy it--even if it meant killing the one it had come to.
Kain would do what he had to.

"The temple? Which temple?" asked Jeor, who at the moment was turning around, slowly, as was necessitated by the treacherous ground beneath him.

"That one," said Taol, pointing. "Oh, in case you're wondering, I wanted this sword because of some legend. There was some sword like this one, and... well, I forget the details, but yeah. Anyway, I think that of yours is cursed. Go to the temple and ask for Juyl. He fix it. Believe me, even if that sword is cursed, it's nowhere near as dangerous as mine."

"Sounds good," replied Jeor. "I'll look into it." Proceeding on his way, Jeor went in the general direction of the temple Taol had indicated. As Jeor walked, he thoroughly pondered what the elf-man had said. How is this sword cursed? he thought. Will it pose any danger to me? Should I trust someone with a pointy ear?

At that very moment, the sword spontaneously leapt out of Jeor's hand and its blade burrowed into the soil. Jeor, startled at first, regained his composure and bent down to pull it out of the ground. He figured that he had just dropped the thing. As he attempted to pull the sword out of the ground, Jeor quickly realized that the sword was stuck there. Jeor, now understandably thinking that the curse was rather benign, shrugged to himself; another lost sword was no big deal, as he could get another.

Jeor walked upon the undulating ground that led to the temple. He saw the temple guard, standing at front to guard against anyone who might want to ransack the dirt and partially disintegrated holy books that formed the brunt of the decoration within. "My sword is apparently cursed somehow. I dropped it, and it got stuck in the ground, but someone said that a guy named Juyl could fix it."

<ooc>Alright, this is a fine mess I've created. Now we need someone for the temple guard guy and someone for Juyl, stat.</ooc>

The gaurd smiled. "Oh, he can help you. Hey! Juyl! Some curse."
A man with a shaven head wearing white robes walked out. "Hmm?" he asked Jeor.

<ooc: While I have to do stuff like this to advance the story, remember that I actually have a character, Taol. If someone wants, they can play Juyl. Any takers?<ooc>

"I have a sword that's apparently cursed with something or other. A guy with pointy ears told me about it. Would you have any suggestions? By the way, I dropped my sword about a half-kilometer or so back, and it got stuck in the soil. So we'll need to go over there to check its condition."

When Juyl spoke, it was with a gravelly tone that could only be the result of great age. "Pointy ears? Hmmm... Only guy I can think of is Taol. Of course, he has only one pointy ear. Anyways, your sword. I'm afraid I'm in no condition to be traipsing so far. You'll have to bring the sword to me. Sorry."
