"I will not require payment," replied Jeor to Taol's offer. "I possess more money than you would think. However, I would very much like an implement for killing golems, if that would serve as payment." Jeor looked at Kain's dagger. "Would you have another one of those?" Jeor now realized that Kain, instead of being a madman, actually knew much more than he could about the cursed swords, as did Taol. |

"As much as I'd like to be on my way, I feel there is more to this than meets the eye. And a thousand golem daggers won't help us if we've got a powerful mage against us, for whatever reason. I see I can trust you two. We may have to work together to solve this." |

Jeor now realized that Kain, instead of being a madman, actually knew much more than he could about the cursed swords, as did Taol. "Yes, I believe I do," said Taol. He rummaged in his pack and pulled out another, and handed it to Jeor. "But a warning: the golem has to see the dagger before you use it, or else it won't work. The dagger scares them into being killable." |

"Where did you learn this? I've spent my life in the woods, and I didn't know that. I knew elves were knowledgable, but..." |

Jeor thanked Taol for the dagger. Jeor said, "I have many swords in my collection which may help us, despite their condition, which is not the best." However, Jeor knew that the track back to his dwelling was a long one, and that, with the ominous hint of the mage, there might not be enough time to retrieve the swords. |

"The teachers at the elven school didn't like me," said Taol. "Didn't approve of hybrids. So they worked me extra hard. Now, as a result, I know more than the average elf. It doesn't hurt that I can somehow remember everything I learn." |

"As much as I dislike magic, I must admit that sometimes things happen which cannot be explained, and they can come in handy." Kain thought of his own gift, but would not reveal it. He trusted few men with such information. Only time would tell if he could trust these. He cast a look at Jeor. Their abilities seemed to have brought the three of them together in this mess. What is the warrior hiding, I wonder? |

"Yes," agreed Taol. He didn't say anything about his other gift. "I think we should go to the inn. It's getting dark. What? Oh, Juyl. Sorry. Yes, you can go home now. Tell Miss Sriz I said hi." |

<ooc> finally got rid of that pesky npc!<ooc> "I'll sleep out here. I'm more comfortable sleeping outside, and I can keep watch for any more golems. You two get a good night's sleep. I have a feeling we'll need our energy in the moring." |

Jeor noticed that Kain had been glancing at him. "Do you suspect something?" he asked. "Actually, never mind that-- I'm quite tired." |

"It's nothing," Kain said, but his face showed that it was more. He knew these warrior types--honest and honorable. He would reveal the secret on his own, if Kain gave enough hints that he wanted to know. |

"Earth and Water!" Kain muttered. "Can't people get by without magic anymore?" He looked at Jeor. "Well, like he said, to each his own. I'll see you in the morning, if you haven't disappeared as well." |

Taol checked into the inn. When he got to his room, he scratched his pointy ear. He knew it was no normal itch. It meant something. |

"I'll see you in the morning, too," said Jeor. "I'll try not to vanish." Suddenly, Jeor vanished, and all that was left of the spot where he was standing was a puff of dust. <ooc>Ooh... secret...</ooc> |

<ooc>Is there a possibility of adding an Undead race, and a Rouge class? Undead being obvious, and a Rouge is basically a swift, theif-like person.</ooc> |

<ooc>Depends. Can the theif do spells?</ooc> |

<ooc>No, thieves cannot do spells. As for undeads, what I can do is add a beastmaster class, who can control beasts and undead. Beastmaster would be limited to dwarves.</ooc> |

<ooc> functionally, golems in this story seem to be similar to undead. Rouge pretty much is theif, as Kain himself already said!<ooc> "By the--" Kain looked around. Jeor was nowhere to be found. Kain's senses were on high alert. Something was not right--and it was more than the swordsman's disappearance. He jogged over to the inn and went inside. Teor had apparently already taken a room, but a cloak Kain did not recognize hung on a peg by the door. Knowing he would need it, he made sure the innkeeper was gone and appropriated the cloak. Returning outside, Kain's fears were confirmed. Golems were running all over the small town, shreiking in the night. The priest lay dead on the temple steps. Kain ducked into a corner and threw the cloak over his head. Somehow he knew it would protect him. |

Taol woke up from his slumber. "Rmmm... just five more minutes..." he said. The a golem broke the window of his room. That got him up. He reached for his sword. |

Kain saw a golem head for the inn and leap through a window. Taol, he thought. He looked out from under the cloak, which appeared to be enchanted in some way. The golems ran right past him. Thousands of golems filled the city, tearing down buildings and slaughtering the inhabitants. Even Taol's magic could not defeat this many. They had to flee. Kain ran, under the shelter of the cloak, to Taol's window. |

Taol was successful in holding off the golem, but there were people in the inn and he couldn't leave; he had to keep them safe. But he knew that someone had to... He saw Kain. "Hey, Kain! Do you remember where I shattered the cursed sword? Go get the shards, then go to the bell of the tower. Open the clapper, put in the shards, and ring the bell! GO!" |

Kain groaned. Why can't magic ever be straightforward? A switch you turn on, or something. But no, I have to stuff some shards into a bloody bell! But there was little time to complain. Golems were everywhere, and as much as Kain preferred simpler methods, he could see no other way out. Hopefully Taol knew what he was talking about. Kain threw the cloak's hood over his head and ran to the area in front of the temple. Ducking the golems who ran aimlessly around him, ignorant of his presence, he gathered the shards up carefully into his rucksack. He mounted the steps of the temple and searched for the bell. He saw a small door to his right. Hoping it led to the belfry, he ran that direction. Sure enough, inside was a steep spiral staircase. The golems had begun their work in here--tearing stones from atop each other to completely dismantle the building. Golems rarely organized against a single settlement, but when they did, they left nothing standing. The stairs were broken apart by the super-strong fists of the golems in many places, and it was a rough climb. At last he reached the platform high in the bell tower. The tower was exposed to the wind, and the thin boards leading to the bell were creaking. Without a second thought Kain dumped the shards into the clapper. Weak from the damage below, the entire tower had begun to shake. Kain leapt to grab the swinging rope, just as the tower itself began to collapse. |

Taol ran to the checkin desk and jump behind the counter. He found the registry and opened it, checking the guest numbers. Figures, he thought, booked solid. |

Kain was falling. The bell fell near him, the clapper banging against the shell. He hoped this qualified as "ringing" to the magic. On instinct, Kain grabbed his rucksack, where he kept his most precious goods--anything he sensed would be useful later. In it were a few short sticks. Binding them to the underside of his cloak as he fell, he managed to stiffen the cloth into a rough parachute. His landing was hard, but he broke no bones. The bell shattered near him, and he ducked to avoid the pieces. |

Taol was about to knock on the first door when he heard a ringing crash. I hope that's not... Crap. It is. He ran outside to Kain, who was lying on the ground. "What did you do?" |

Kain grunted. His body was still bruised from the fall. "Don't ask me. Ask the golems who destroyed the tower. I did what I could. Next plan?" <ooc> "Crap" is not ye olde english, my friend.<ooc> |

"Well, I'd better get back to the inn... Wait a minute. I heard a quiet scratching coming from the walls of the inn last night. I wonder... Kain, do you have any large containers? Like a pocket dimension, maybe?" |

"Pocket dimension, no. At least, I don't think so. I picked this trinket up across the sea a few years ago. Never knew why I needed it." He handed an ornately decorated box the size of a breadbox to Taol. |
