Coren came charging in behind the black thing. His sword was drawn and he slashed at the black thing. "MREEOWW!!!!" he yelled.
<GM's note: This RPG guarded by an Attack Cat!
By the way, I'm gonna say that the reason Coren can hit the guy despite his being invisible is because he can smell him and because coren's whiskers can detect the tiny changes in air flow our invisible foe is making.>
The Vampire who's head was on fire thanks to Quinn's powers of pyrokinesis survived Tem's stake-through-the heart attempt, (Aparantly, Tem missed the heart) and in retaliation he punched Tem in the chest really, really hard. The force of the blow cracked several ribs and knocked the wind out of Tem, while at the same time throwing him back several feet and cranking his head forward in relation to his body. Tem's chin hit his chest and his feet crumpled under him. Tem was left on his back, in serious pain from the cracked ribs, and gasping for air to re-fill his now-collapsing lungs.
However, the Vampire was also in trouble, because the fire was burning away it's cloak, which was the only protection it had against the sunlight. Sunlight burns Vampires, and sustained exposure to sunlight can reduce a Vampire to ashes. It needed to get into shadow, quickly, so it dropped it's invisibility and transformed itself into smoke. Even in smoke-form, however, the Vampire was vulnerable to Sunlight. Still, smoke was it's fastest mode of travel, and speed was of the essence. The cloud of undead vampiric smoke moved with unnatural speed back into the forest. Goldwing chased after it but couldn't catch up, and Drek shot some arrows at it, but they all passed harmlessly though it.
The Vampire may have gotten away, but the good news was that they'd rescued Eruantian. During the encounter with the party, The Vampire had rendered his prize invisible too, but had had to abandon it's prize to survive the sunlight. And so, Eruantian's tied-up form (with Acedia's Rat-form tail poking out from under his pants pocket) with a bag over his head and ropes and chains holding him immobile, was found safely laying upon a large rock, jutting up out of the tall grass.
Maxwell recognized Eruantian by his clothing and his shoes. He said: "Alright, you guys go help the others with the second Vampire. I'll untie Eruantian and we'll catch up when we can. Horin, see what you can do for Tem. He looks hurt."
