Quinn had been caught in the tree walk and was feeling mildly nausious. Quinn looked up and saw that coren was not among the group. "Hey," he said," where's coren?"

Just them, Coren saw a Golden Eagle flying overhead. He remembered seeing such a bird with the group. Aparantly, such a bird was the animal companion to that Elven Ranger, Drek. Might be the same bird, but then again it might just be another golden eagle. What to do?

"Hey! Birdie!" Coren yelled, he threw a stick toward it.

The Eagle alighted in a tree and called down at Coren before circling low over him three times and then taking of again in it's original direction. When Coren didn't follow it came back and circled over him again before taking off again for the same direction. It was as if the bird wanted Coren to follow.

An Aurora was faintly visible around Tem's head. At this point, if he dumped all his psychic energy on the bandit, it would be enough to kill a bull elephant. However, Tem's plan was to grab the bandit's mind into the ether, and simply muffle his ethereal shapeshifting, and kill him quickly.

"Well, if I'm so good with my sword," Marcus sighed as he curled his tail around and slipped the flail on, "Maybe I'll be that good with this thing." He walked into an open area away from the other party members and bent and flexed and whipped his tail around, practicing with quick strikes and long, flowing hits.

"I think I'm getting the hang of this. You guys just better watch out if you see this thing swinging around!"

"Will do," Prosper said. "Let's get into cover, the bandit should be on top of us now." The boy ran to the side and layed down in the tall grass. He waited, whatever it was would come out soon, and then he would spring to action.
<Sarge, you might wan't to start the battle, since we don't entirely know what we're going against.>

Micheal, who had been montoring things whith his Astral perception, crouched down and said: "OK, here they come. I'll see if I can grab one of them with my Bigby's Clenched Fist spell, but I'll only be able to hold it for a few minutes and then the spell will end. You guys take down the other one while I hold the other one still, OK? Right, they're nearing the edge of the forest now. Almost there. Steady... steady... steady..... (long pause) NOW!"

Micheal stood up quicly and unleashed his spell, and suddenly Auriel's kidnapper was caught in Micheal's magical grasp.

Captain Sealem, Maxwell, Farnham, Drek, Maria and Horin jumped up and charged the second black-suited kidnapper in line-abreast formation. Meanwhile, the Captain Sealem's three Elven Swordsmen jumped out of their hiding places in the brush and closed in from behind.

However, Marcus and Quinn were faster than any of them.

Tem found, to his great dismay, that his psychic abilities had no effect on the kidnappers. It was as if they didn't have brains. How could this be?

Horin had a bad feeling, an itching at the back of his subconscious, as if his god were speaking to him but the message wasn't getting through. For a fleeting instant he felt like reaching for his holy symbols, but warhammer was too comfortable in his hands and the thought passed as quickly as it had arrived.

Maria, too, felt an odd sensation for an instant, but for a girl who was back from the dead and a few thousand years out of her time she wasn't about to pause and pay attention to what she dismissed as a flight of her imagination. Being alive again was still fresh and new, and battle was afoot, So, she too ignored the little voice in the back of her head that was trying to tell her something.

Prosper, however, stopped dead in his tracks because the pendant that the Elven Emperor had given him to protect him from Drowish magic was positively vibrating with energy. It was glowing with a very bright white light, and he could feel a sort of force-feild enveloping him like a suit of armor. What was happening?

"Ah, well. Maybe I can still injure them ethereally" said Tem. He teleported behind the second one, and produced what could only be called a Cleaver Sword without being sued. I was as long as Marcus' sword and twice as wide. "looks like that psienergy paid off after all." He rammed the sword into the side of the creature, only for it not to flinch. "Great. I think we're dealing with golems!" he said, before being backhanded and knocked away. Tem recycled the sword, in case the... golem(?) tried to use it.

Suddenly, the creature Tem had attacked vanished and so did the one that Micheal had in his Bigby's clenched fist.

Micheal said: "Watch out! They're using infernal invisibility magic! Marcus, track it by smell."

Horin said: "Somethings not right here. I can feel it in me bones."

Just then, Captain Sealem turned his head and said: "I must protect Master Prosper he is exposed and.... and... By Corellon Larethian, look at his amulet! It's armoring him!"

A voice came from the Bigby's Clenched Fist: "You can't hold me forever, weakling Mage. But it matters not. We thought the ring-bearer and his friend a prize worth keeping, now you bring us a greater prize. Prosper of Skarae Brae, favored of the Sprenthinine King and with a bounty on his head from The Drowish Emperess. We come to seal your fate, favored of the Sprenthinine King. And your Sprenthinie warding stone and all your sword-bearing frineds will not keep you safe forever. We two are past such mortal concerns, for we live the life undying. The way beyond death. They way of the Nosforotu! Prepare to die."

Maria gasped: "Great Tyr protect us. They're Vampires!"

"Okay, I care why? Wooden stake!" Tem created a stake, and etherealized his whole body. He was running out of animal thoughts. He'd become weakened if he kept exerting himself. Tem saw the vampire's aura, and detherealized in front of it. He feinted lunging for the heart but instead Tem reached with his free hand to what he hoped was the vampire's hood... "Only one shot at this..."

"Oh [insert colorful vocabulary here]. Vampires." Taryn sighed. "And here I was hoping for Dead constructs, or sendings, or some such. At least you can kill those without being all elaborate about it. I suppose you've got some kind of magic ring that allows you to not...turn to ash or whatever it is that happens when you go out in the sun, then?" she called, rather mockingly, to the vampires. Maybe she doesn't feel like being helpful right now.

And now: Aurieul's experience since her chat with Eruantian; in brief.

Aurieul awoke to motion. She hadn't recalled actually falling asleep. She could tell she was moving and felt as though she were being carried, but it was more smooth than one would expect. Faster too. Then she realized she was also tied up. She slowly opened her eyes only to find her head was covered with some sort of bag. No wonder her mouth felt dry; there was a wad of something in her mouth.

Wonderful! I think I'm being kidnapped....AGAIN! Normally not the best in anything related to combat, Aurieul felt being gagged, tied, and blind was bound to make her situation much more difficult. She attempted to struggle anyhow and all that happened was the grip upon her tightened to the point of pain. So she decided to just wait it out.

Tem could feel cloth, and then a large mass fell on him. To an ordinary observer, Tem seemed to be fighting nothing at all. "Michael. cast dispel magic on me! I'll be able to roast this guy if he just gets that hood off!"

Prosper ground to a halt as soon as he felt the white hot energy from the amulet on his chest. He stood as Sealem exclaimed at the feild enveloping him, and marved at what the amulet was doing to him. This was more than the feeling of peace he had had in Targoth, <I hope I got that right> or the deflection of arrows earlier in the forrest. He was, as Sealem had exclaimed, being clothed in a visible feild of protection.
"How do they know my name?" he thought aloud, after the vampires had uttered thier threats. "And who is the Sprenthinine King?" this certainly was interesting, why were all of these people taking such an interest in him? He glanced around, wondering what to do next.
<Sarge, I really don't know as much as may look like I'm saying, so could you tell me just what the amulet is acctualy doing to Prosper? Is it simple protection like before or is it something more?>

"Someone follow Marcus and me!" Prosper shouted, heading after the lizardman, seeing that the other vampire was being pretty well taken care of. The fact that it was he the vampires wanted to kidnap now
occured to him, but was buried under a feeling of overconfidence he had gained from assuming his amulet would protect him.
What didn't occur to him was that even though he was very valuble, the vampire they were chasing though the woods had made no move twored him as of yet, but continued leading them deeper into the woods. This should've spelled danger, but Prosper's adrenaline was running too fast and too hot for him to notice it. That is, untill Marcus stopped short and was pounced upon by a black shadow.
Prosper stood dead in his tracks, spear up, and a wide eyed look of fear in his eyes. What now?

Taryn had chosen to follow Prosper and Marcus, likely for purposes of her own that have nothing to do with seeing that the party's youngest members didn't meet a grisly end at the hands of a bloodsucking fiend.

"Stay alert," she advised Prosper, after rather startlingly coming up behind him with nary a sound.

Of course, if this black thing was the second vampire, where was Eruantian?

The vampire's hood caught fire, disabling his invisibility. Tem threw the vampire off him, and lifting him into the air. He only had a few seconds left of extra power. He created a stake, and drove it into the vampire's chest. He hoped he hit the heart. With all his regular psionic energy, he drew together a pyrokinetic blast. If he missed with the stake, complete incineration would do away with it...<Hint, hint, hint.><I'll be gone for the weekend, so Tem's an NPC till monday>

Prosper jumped, and glanced at Taryn. "Right" the boy said, in a voice that did a good job of hiding his shakyness. I'm not afraid, he said to himself. I'm not afraid. Suddenly he remembered the words of that grizzled old dock worker who taught him so much. Fear isn't all bad, me lad. It keeps ye on yer toes, reminds ye of yer limits. It's when you let the fear controll ye that it becomes yer enemy.
Despite the situation, Prosper found himself smileing.
He eyed the black thing, watching for the first move.

<GM's note: This RPG guarded by an Attack Cat!

By the way, I'm gonna say that the reason Coren can hit the guy despite his being invisible is because he can smell him and because coren's whiskers can detect the tiny changes in air flow our invisible foe is making.>

The Vampire who's head was on fire thanks to Quinn's powers of pyrokinesis survived Tem's stake-through-the heart attempt, (Aparantly, Tem missed the heart) and in retaliation he punched Tem in the chest really, really hard. The force of the blow cracked several ribs and knocked the wind out of Tem, while at the same time throwing him back several feet and cranking his head forward in relation to his body. Tem's chin hit his chest and his feet crumpled under him. Tem was left on his back, in serious pain from the cracked ribs, and gasping for air to re-fill his now-collapsing lungs.

However, the Vampire was also in trouble, because the fire was burning away it's cloak, which was the only protection it had against the sunlight. Sunlight burns Vampires, and sustained exposure to sunlight can reduce a Vampire to ashes. It needed to get into shadow, quickly, so it dropped it's invisibility and transformed itself into smoke. Even in smoke-form, however, the Vampire was vulnerable to Sunlight. Still, smoke was it's fastest mode of travel, and speed was of the essence. The cloud of undead vampiric smoke moved with unnatural speed back into the forest. Goldwing chased after it but couldn't catch up, and Drek shot some arrows at it, but they all passed harmlessly though it.

The Vampire may have gotten away, but the good news was that they'd rescued Eruantian. During the encounter with the party, The Vampire had rendered his prize invisible too, but had had to abandon it's prize to survive the sunlight. And so, Eruantian's tied-up form (with Acedia's Rat-form tail poking out from under his pants pocket) with a bag over his head and ropes and chains holding him immobile, was found safely laying upon a large rock, jutting up out of the tall grass.

Maxwell recognized Eruantian by his clothing and his shoes. He said: "Alright, you guys go help the others with the second Vampire. I'll untie Eruantian and we'll catch up when we can. Horin, see what you can do for Tem. He looks hurt."

{ Acedia pulled the bag off of Eruantian. >.>; Or at least chewed through whatever rope was holding it there, so it likely would've fallen off by now. }

Finally noticing that they had, in fact, stopped moving, Acedia's tail thrashed about a bit as she tried to flip over and crawl out of Eruantian's pocket. Shortly enough she emerged, and all but flung herself onto the ground for a breath of fresh air.

"Hey, we stopped moving." What an astute observation.

<We were assuming that it wasn't invisible anymore, thanks to Marcus refering to it as a "black thing". I'm just going to assume that it re-invisibled before being atacked from behind.>
Suddenly, it vanished! Prosper could now see behind where the thing had been to where Coren was now, swinging his sword at a perfect moment.
"Now!" the boy shouted, feeling the excitement of battle more than he had felt before. They were usually the targets of ambush, but now they were the ambushers! Prosper ran forward with his spear up, forgeting that it would be very hard to atack something he couldn't see. He stabbed the area where Corin had struck, realizing as he did so, that his move had probably been quite foolish, because the vampire had probably moved.

"Dirt," Taryn cried. "Start throwing dirt. He's invisible, not immaterial." To reinforce her point, she picked up a handful of dirt and threw it in the general direction of where the vampire was.
