Horin walked over to where Corin was and said: "Jackpot! Wild Garlic and plenty of it." Horin was happy that his hunch had been correct, so he smiled and said: "Come on, let's dig up the bulbs." <GM's note: You see, garlic grows like onions: With the greens above ground and the bulbs below. It grows in bunches, with garlic left in the ground serving as the seeds for next season's batch.> |

<OOC: I'm not sure if this is overpowering my character...if it is, consider it non-canon> Suddenly Andrew had a strange feeling, he just couldn't put his finger on it, he thought it would not be a good idea to ignore it, incase something bad did happen, he walked up to Tem and Prosper and started talking. "Guys I don't know why, but for some reason I feel like something bad is happening right now...I just don't know what it is but I think I better scout to to find out what it is..." |

Aurieul didn't know where she was or where she was going, she just knew that she was traveling yet again. Why am I always the one getting kidnapped? I wonder if Eruantian escaped. Would they re-capture him or are they just after me? Maybe I'll find out if we ever stop moving! Aurieul carefully moved to check how tightly bound she was. I guess these guys have kidnapped before. Aurieul could barely move. She decided to pretend she was still knocked/passed out. Maybe she could escape when they reached their destination. <OOC>Aurieul doesn't know if Eruantian was in fact kidnapped when she was, she just assumed it was a possibility considering he could have been close enough to stop the vampires from grabbing her (and obviously she was not rescued at that time).</OOC> |

Eruantian, being unconscious, dreamt he was back at Sam's tavern, sitting at the bar. On the seat to his left was Horin guzzling down pint after pint of what appeared to be Black Ale, which the mayor of Targos banned two years before. To his right sat Drek feeding meat to his Eagle. At the other end of the room sat Maxwell, Farnham, and Captain Sealem at a table. The barmaid serving them was Taryn , and the tray she served them with had Tem's head on it. "What'll it be, pal" asked Micheal, who seemed to be the bartender. "Where's Sam" Eruantian inquired. "Sam's not here today" Micheal replied "What'll it be?" "What's going on here" Eruantian questioned "None of this is right" "Of course none of this is right" Micheal responded "That's the whole point" At that time, Eruantian walked through the door. To be more precise, this was a different Eruantian. This was Eruantian as he was before the party came to Targos: fully equipped, fully clothed, and bearing his ring on his necklace. The other Eruantian placed a couple of blocks of ice on the floor. Eruantian, the first one, was shocked and confused in ways that words can not describe. He got up from his seat, walked over to Eruantian and demanded "Just who do you think you are?" "I'm the ice delivery man" Eruantian responded "Just who do you think you are?" "That is MY job" Eruantian exclaimed. "This was you're job" Eruantian retorted "Not anymore. Don't you have something more important you should be doing?" The Eruantian with the ice left for his wagon, while the first Eruantian stood there, wondering what he meant. "I don't understand" he stated. "Have you forgotten everything" Micheal said, though it wasn't Micheal. Micheal, Horin, and Drek had been replaced by people Eruantian knew during his trance after his encounter with the Dire Wolf. "Do you not remember what I taught you about surviving in the wilderness" questioned the Arctic Elven Ranger. "Do you not remember what I taught you about how to fight" questioned the Dwarven Defender. "Do you not remember what I taught you about mastering the power of your ring" question the Ice Mage. They all questioned at once "Have you forgotten everything?" The inn vanished and only Eruantian and the three arctic men remained in a black void. "You are foolish to think you have nothing to lose, Eruantian." "What do you mean" Eruantian inquired "I've already lost both sets of parents, my home, and every possession I've ever had. What's left to lose? There is nothing left for me - it's all about the ring now, I'm not important." "You realize that defeating the Lolth and the Drow is more important than your own selfish desires" the mage stated "You realize that the ring is the key to saving both humans and elves. You realize that this is the time for action, rather than wallowing in self pity." "But what you do not understand..." he continued "... is that you have much more left to lose than you have already lost." "What do I have left to lose" Eruantian disbelievingly questioned. "You still have us, Eruantian" said Aurieul as she walked forth from the dark void "You still have me. You have friends, Eruantian, friends who care about you. If you are careless, you will lose us too." Aurieul faded into nothing. "What you do not understand..." the Ice Mage started again "... is that you are not the ring's slave, but its master. The ring serves you, just as it has served your family eons before your time. Eruantian could see something in the distance. It looked like a stone pedestal with a faint blue glow around it. As he walked toward it, he noticed that something crunched under his feet. It was snow. He was on a mountain, like one he had explored in his trance. He approached the pedestal and saw a ring in the center of it; his ring. He ran over to pick it up, when the Ice Mage appeared on the other side of the pedestal. "The ring is not merely a trinket" he stated. Eruantian had the strangest feeling; it was as if there was something he needed to remember... Something that had been said before... "The ring is not merely a trinket" the Mage stated again, then it began to come back to Eruantian. "It is my closest ally and my greatest weapon" Eruantian responded. "The ring has powers beyond your comprehension" "But that is power that I command" "The ring has existed for years beyond count" "And like me is the living legacy of my fathers before me" The mage smiled and said "Reclaim your ring, Eruantian, and use it for the good of your kind, both men and elves" As Eruantian put his hand forth to take the ring, he regained conciousness. <OOC> Sarge should describe Eruantian's current predicament. </OOC> |

Horin Nodded: "Aye, of course, lad. 'Tis not the smell the Vampires dislike, but the Garlic itself. Don't ask me to explain it, I'm a healer, not a loremaster. Suffice to say that unless you are clad in Garlic cloves, a Vampire is not repulsed by ye, nay-hap how long since ye bathed. But, I think we have enough Garlic now. Let's head back to the others and I can start sewing garlic necklaces." Suddenly, back where Erunantian was laying, there was a blast of cold, snow-filled air, and Erunantian's Ring appeared on a chain about his neck, along with a rolled-up peice of parchment. "What the heck was that?" said a startled Maxwell. "It came from those bushes over there." |

Eruantian could not believe it. His ring! How could this be? Was he dreaming? No, the head ache was too real to be a dream. But did he not just reach for the ring from the pedestal? Was it somehow connected to this moment?... Oh, he would think more on that later. At long last, he had his ring back! Eruantian was about to joyfully put it on when he remembered that it was malfunctional the last time he had it. After some hesitation, he decided it best not to wear it on his finger... for now... He began to consider the parchment. "I hope it's in a language I can read" he thought to himself. Eruantian opened the parchment to see what was scribed on it... |

<That's right. He got clonked on the head, but his attackers didn't try and capture him.> Eruantian opened the scroll of Parchment. It was in a fine Elvish script, in black ink, with two important-looking wax seals at the bottom of the page. Each seal bore the same core-symbol, a coat-of-arms featuring a sword crossed with a spear, over a stylized roaring lion. The seals differed in that one was about two inches in diameter and in red wax, while the other was about five inches in diameter and in white wax with a golden thread sewn through both it. <GM's Note: This thread-through-wax technique is used on important government documents throughout the known world, and is intended to ensure that the seal cannot be removed without cracking it, thus rendering it much harder to use on a forged document than a wax seal alone. The larger seal is probably the seal of the Lord or Lady who commissioned the document, while the smaller one is probably just the author's personal seal. Eruantian, having dealt with government officials during his time as a trader in ice, would likely be aware of all this.> Erunantian didn't recognize the organization the seals belonged to, but it was definitely High-Elf writing, that was for sure. Eruantian could see track-marks in the mud. Non-human marks. Orkish, perhaps? Or Goblinoid? He wasn't sure. But, no human foot made that kind of mark, and it wasn't Lizzardman prints either; He'd been around Marcus long enough to know well what those looked like. Hrmmm... What to do? |

Eruantian decided that reading the script that came with his ring would be his first action. The more he knew about the situation before he followed possible hostiles the better. <OOC> Eruantian can read Elvish, so what does the parchment say? </OOC> |

The Parchment read: Quote: Ethium Greanleaf III, OSE, ESQ,
Deputy Commisoner for Lost Artifacts Maple Lodge House, 432 Maple Lodge Road Suldeneselar City The Empire of Suldeneselar Greetings and Salutations: Honored Eruantian of Skarae Brae, late of the town of Targos: It has come to the attention of this department that a certain artifact once belonging to The Royal Treasury had come, lawfully, into your possession before becoming misplaced again. Upon being notified by the head of the local Talismonger's Guild of the sudden appearance of said artifact inside their guild-hose, we sent a team of officials to investigate, and do now lawfully certify that said artifact does belong to you and your heirs. Ascertaining the defect in the artifact previously noted by the talismonger in Targos that your had previously consulted, we remedied this flaw and have rendered the imbalance harmless. This service was provided at no charge and without obligation, on the specific orders of The Emperor, and at his direction. Please accept our apologies for the lateness of this response, as we had some difficulty in locating you. You will find attached to your neck your magic ring and a complimentary gold chain. Please keep it safe. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me a response by post-mail. You may wish to retain this document for your own records, as it is an official document that does establish your ownership of the artifact in question. Best Regards: (signed) Ethium Greanleaf III, Deputy Commissioner for Lost Artifacts Office of the High Imperial Talismonger Department of the Treasury Government of Suldeneselar In the Service of His Majesty Dated this Fiveday, the twenty-eighth day of the Month Of Luimnon, 435 NME. {{SEAL OF THE OFFICE OF THE HIGH IMPERIAL TALISMONGER}} {{Personal seal of Ethium Greanleaf The Third}} So, apparently, this meant that the ring was now safe for use. Dare he try it? |

<OOC>Oh, he dare. He really dare.</OOC> Eruantian felt overjoyed at this news. It was as if someone had crafted a plot device just for him. He rolled up the scroll and tucked it away in his pocket. Then he carefully removed the ring from its new golden chain. What new powers would he be able to use? A blue variation of flaming finger? A ray that shoots frost? Immunity to cold? A chilling command over the weather itself?! The possibilities were endless! Eruantian held the ring with the thumb and first two fingers of his left hand and slowly brought it toward the index finger of his right hand. This was the magic moment - the TRUE reunion with his ring. Eruantian was suddenly distracted from this moment when he noticed there was a heavenly choir and a column of light from the sky.
He jerked the ring away from his right hand and the music and lights suddenly ceased. He looked in all directions, seeing no one. After a few moments of shifty eyes and eyebrows in befuddlement position, he decided to work with the dramatic ambiance. He resumed slowly moving the ring toward his index finger, this time paying no heed to the choir and lights. The ring passed over his skin until it was secured into position then... Wait, this was odd... His hand wasn't glowing. Why wasn't his hand glowing? His hand used to glow every time his finger bore the ring. Did the Lost Artifact Guild repair it or sap it of all power? Eruantian began the process of placing his face in his palm when he noticed there was a blue glow projected onto his hands. The choir and lights had ceased, so where was it coming from?... His eyes? Yes, the light was projecting from his eyes. And now that he thought about it, his arm was starting to look pale... VERY pale. "What on earth" he questioned himself aloud "I'm as white as..." He paused when he noticed steam as he spoke. His breath must have been cold for him to blow steam in the middle of summer. Eruantian had just experienced the full transformational properties of bearing the ring. In addition to the glowing blue eyes and the pale skin, his body temperature had been significantly lowered(to the point of his skin being cold to the touch). Eruantian removed the ring and, much to his relief, returned to normal. Not only that, he didn't take any cold damage. He didn't even feel the slightest bit of a shiver. He laughed gleefully at the revelation that the past dangers of bearing the ring were removed. He replaced the ring on his finger and transformed once again. "Well, it's safe to use now" he thought to himself "But how can it be used?" He pondered for a while, thinking about the two powers he had in the past: flaming touch and cold winds... flaming touch... flaming... touch... His hand began to glow blue. His hand was glowing by his own command. He thought again... and it ceased. He could control that power now! He thought it would be a good idea check to make sure his other power still worked. He pointed his finger at a tree and forth went a blast of cold air that knocked a few squirrels and birds out of it. He smirked, looked at his glowing ring and questioned "So, what else can you do?" |

Eruantian was expecting some sort of answer or sign from his ring, even something subtle, but there was nothing. "... Oh, right" he said as he remembered what Tyr had told him "I need to find out for myself. Well, at least I still have my... sword?... CONFUSTICATE AND BEBOTHER THOSE RUFFIANS!!!" Eruantian had just then noticed that the sword Farnham had confiscated from Frankie was missing. The most likely people responsible for that were the assassins working for the vampires - after all, why carry an armed prisoner. However, whoever threw a rock at him and tripped him up might have been a bit greedy, so he couldn't know for sure. Eruantian, having taken a deep breath, reminded himself that he should be grateful for the return of his ring, even despite the lack of offensive power. He then focused his attention on the footprints in the mud. "What am I dealing with here" he asked himself aloud. "I am not certain" a voice from behind him said. Eruantian turned to see who it was. It was the arctic elven ranger he had seen in his dream. "The tracks a fresh, though" he continued "If you follow them now you might intercept whoever made them." Eruantian gazed at the elf with his mouth wide open. "... I should have known this was too good to be true" Eruantian said in agitation "First the ring shows up, then you show up. I must still be dreaming." Eruantian started slapping himself trying to wake himself up, though he didn't do so for long because of his throbbing headache. "OW!" he painfully blurted "Pain? That can't be right. How can you be real? You were just a figment of my dream." "Are you going to follow them, Eruantian" the ranger asked "... or are you just going to slap yourself into submission?" "Oh" Eruantian said "Right, the tracks." He looked back at the tracks "I don't suppose you can tell me just how much of a lead they have... Glandur?" There was no response. Eruantian looked behind and there was no one there. "Oh, 'kay" he said "That was odd. Well, I had better follow these tracks, then." So that's what he did... He followed the tracks... |

"Yeah, though not very well." said Tem he got up, and noticed his hardite in a heap beside him. "Well, no use taking risks. I better put my hardite on." said Tem, and did so, the armor slipping easily over his cloak. "So, I've noticed the rather large number of half-elves in our group compared to any other race. "I wouldn't know," replied Prosper. "But let's get going. Andrew's (that's right isn't it?) having is making me nervous." The fact that there were two vampires waiting for him somewhere in the woods, however, had been replaced with a brand new confidence that Prosper was finding in himself. The usually timid boy now felt bigger and stronger, mostly on account of the amulet, but some genuinly felt because of all he'd come through so far. <Player note: The parenthese's do not indicate an OOC statement, but rather, an IC aside to Andrew.> |

We'd better check it out. How's them Garlic nacklaces coming, Horin?" Horin said: "Well, I've got three of them ready. Sorry, I can only sew so fast." Maxwell nodded. "Well, that'll have to do, I suppose. Give the garlic necklaces to Coren, Tem, and Marcus.. and stay here and keep sewing. Let's hope it's not them Vampires again." And so, the party moved towards where Eruantian was, not knowing that it was he that casued the disturbance they were investigating. Becoming bored, Acedia carefully got up and walked the short distance over to Horin. "Do you need any help?" she asked, desperate for something to do. Helping Horin sew the garlic necklaces was something to do, and it let her sit relatively still for Taryn to boot. Every minute movement that affected the bag was felt by Taryn, and each of these movements added a few seconds to her healing time. Seconds add up fast. |

[OOC: Yay, Marcus gets to be the center of attention for a while.....maybe? ^^;] Marcus drew his sword as he approached the tree, but dropped it to run and eat the little animals that had fallen out of it. "Sorry," He shrugged as he picked up his sword again and wiped his maw, "Just hungry again." The Lizzardman was the first to spot the Half-Elf in front of the tree. After a time, Aurieul heard a rustling and then felt the air get cooler. I think we're underground! Then, after what seemed like forever, she was thrust into what seemed to be a somewhat small cage. Her blindfold was removed and Aurieul slowly opened her eyes to find that this was indeed the case. She was curled up in a cage too small for her to stretch to her full length and too short for her to stand. Kneeling would bring her just about to the top. As if that wasn't enough, she turned her head to look at her feet, where a chain shackled her to the floor. I guess I won't be able to escape on my own as easily this time...let's hope a rescue is underway, shall we? But Aurieul was doubtful. Hadn't they left without her the last time she disappeared from among them without word? But not earlier today! They had come that time. Regardless of whether help was on its way, Aurieul decided it would be smart to find out all she could about her situation. Knowing that playing unconscious didn't matter at this point, she slowly sat up and looked out of the cage at her surroundings. She seemed to be in a cave and there were at least ten creatures moving about.
Beyond them it was harder to see, as the light was limited. Despite that, she soon realized who her captor was. He strode towards her through the others while asking, "Were you followed?" One of the creatures responded with a growling voice, "The owner began to suspect and was following, but I threw a rock and he fell unconscious." "Then we are ready for the next step." |
