[OCC: Dang, what's it gonna take for Marcus to get one of those rhomphaias?] Near the back of the group of Bugbears, Marcus could see their "leader", which basically meant the biggest one. He must have been a good leader. because he was twice as big as the others. A challenge for the Lizzardman! As soon as he didn't see any other Bugbears coming at him, Marcus climbed into a tree, carefully waited until the leader was below him, then jumped out onto the beast's head. He instantly started slashing and thrashing around its skull, but its neck was incredibly thick and muscular. Marcus could barely move it. Meanwhile, the Bugbear noticed the comparatively little Lizzard on its neck and reached around to try and grab Marcus. It had huge hands; Marcus dodged the swings and blows as best as he could. |

"Need any help Marcus?" inquired Coren as he blocked an attack from one of the few Bugbears left. |

In a flurry of moves, the powerful bugbear leader thrashed at Marcus, connecting with a glancing blow once and barely missing the rest of the time. Macrus was essentialy unharmed, but he knew this opponent wasn't going down nearly as easily as the others had. This bugbear was brandishing a heavy steel mace in his left hand that had studded ball at it's bashing end and a smaller pommel on the other end. The mace-head was about two feet wide and was mounted on a pole about four feet long. In his right hand, the bugbear leader had a five foot long, slightly curved, single-edged serrated blade (of a type not familiar to Marcus). Although both weapons looked like they were designed to be used two-handed, the huge bugbear was having no trouble at all wielding both at the same time. Meanwhile, the main group had finished off the rest of the bugbears. Maxwell looked around: "Just one more, and Marcus is tangling with him. Lets give him a hand." |

Andrew answered to Maxwell "Yeah, I'll try to distract him, I'm the least likely to get hit" and then ran towards the Strong Bugbear cautiously hoping to not be hit by either of it's weapons in the brawl. <OOC: Do not say the word "tank"> |

Sarge wrote: Auriel was steadily making her way out of her captivity, sticking to the shadows and keeping very quiet. She made her way unnoticed past the room where she had originally been brought, but now she had a choice to make. The passageways branched out from here. One passageway went up, one went down, and the other stayed on this level but turned left. Which one to choose?
Aurieul tried to remember if she was still moving downhill just before reaching the cage room. I think we were already leveled off by that point... Aurieul decided to head down the passage that turned left. But before she did, she tried to think of a way to mark her path so she could turn back if she was wrong. Maybe if I could scratch the walls or floor with a marking?...But it would take too long to scratch something I could easily see and others wouldn't. Maybe if I ripped pieces off the bottom of my skirt I could place them where they wouldn't look conspicuous. In the end, that was the best idea Aurieul had, so she carefully ripped a piece from her skirt to place at the turning point. |

Tem sent a telepathic message to the entire party, telling them where they were. He then grabbed several thoughts from everything around him, even the plants, killing a small circle of grass around him, and supercharging his psionics. He lifted himself into the air with his telekinesis. "I... don't know... how much longer I can live without treatment... Teleportation... h... Flayer specialty... they.. maybe... help..." Tem had no more strength left in him to talk, instead diverting his life processes to float by Michael, and not touch ground. |

Acedia, for lack of something better to do (and also for lack of really wanting to go kill more stuff), announced her intention to go help Tem, shifted form to wolf, and dashed off in the general direction of the Flayer and Michael. When she got there, she shifted out of her wolf form again. "Hey, I didn't know you could float," she greeted Tem with an air of nonchalance. "Hi Michael." |

"Ooh, that is a problem, innit." Acedia blinked. "You should probably start heading back over there, then. They're finishing off the last of the Bugbears and will be done in short order. Tem, can you keep floating long enough to get back over there, or are you even able to move at all?" she asked, looking up at the semi-immaterial Flayer. "If he's becoming intangible then we probably can't, say, affix a rope to him and pull him along like a kite, can we?" |

"telepshn... wlly... wonka... theory..." mumbled Tem. <Y'know, because sarge hasn't written anything about it, let's say that it works like in charley and the chocolate factory, wherin all my molecules are separated, then join together in a different place> He slowly levitated toward the other tunnel. |

"Oh, good!" Marcus cried as he saw half the party come to his aid. "Just in bloody time." Both he and the Bugbear were getting tired. Marcus still couldn't break its neck, but luckily he was able to avoid any severe blows from the Bugbear's weapons. It became clear that fighting up top wouldn't help. So Marcus had another idea. He jumped down onto the ground and grabbed onto one of the Bugbear's thick legs. With any luck and some good ol' Lizzardman wrestling techniques, Marcus could break the beast's leg or at least keep it from standing upright. |

Marcus managed to trip up the bugbear, and it fell down with a resounding ::THUMP:: But, it wasn't going to give up that easily. It swung it's mace wildly, trying to clear Marcus off it long enough for it to get back on it's feet. Horin took a belt off a dead bugbear and jumped into the fray, trying to get the belt around the bugbear's neck, but he was too slow and never was able to get in position. <<GM's Humorous Satire: This SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY (and also Monday) in the Operation Storyteller thread, see live wrestling action for the World Fantasy Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, featuring the Big Bad Beastman against the Mean Green Wrestling Machine, your champion, Marcus the Lizzard in a no-holds barred last-man-alive match. [OOC: The following post may contain blood and gore. Not recommended for kidlets.] The Lizzardman walked up to the Bugbear's broad chest and set one foot on it like a pedestal. He looked down into the beast's dead eyes, then back up again, and flexed his formidable muscles. "A Dire Wolf, a Dragon, and now a Bugbear! What's next for Big Man Marcus?" he asked himself. "Maybe I'll turn into a Dragon one of these days!" Marcus knelt down next to the Bugbear and hissed a prayer to the Lizzard God, thanking Him for His blessings. When he was finished, Marcus suddenly felt twice as strong, and dug deep into the Bugbear's chest with one claw. After a bit of searching around and a lot of force, Marcus pulled out its heart, which looked more like a small boulder. What to do with this? Marcus thought. That's easy. With a savage CHOMP, Marcus dug his scaly shops into the Bugbear's heart and began his victory feast. The muscle was tough to chew, but Marcus could handle it. The blood added a nice touch, too. |

Marcus shot Maxwell a dead eye. "Yes, yes I did, Mister Marcus." He finshed the last of the heart, gulped it down, and licked the blood and juices off his chops. "You should be glad I don't choose to eat humans like you," Marcus hissed as he rubbed his belly in satisfaction, "Although I could probably eat your brother in one sitting." |

<Excuse me, but when did it die?> Prosper watched with horror as Marcus chewed on the heart. "Lovely," he said. With that his thoughts turned to the mine entrance. "Should we get going?" the boy asked, he still didn't know about Tem's problem, so he was concentrating on the mission. |

Auriel went into the passage that turnd left, and found herself in a long corridor with many branching pathways off it. She couldn't hear anyone, and she found that most of the branching pathways were dead-ends. However, one led to a room where the roof had partially caved in and sunlight could be seen in the cracks between the clumps of rocks and dirt. She couldn't fit through any of the holes, but at least now she knew how far away the surface was. From what she could see, she was maybe a hundred meters or so under the surface. She proceeded onward, and eventually found a large room filled with wet rotting garbage. Nothing of any use was in there, so she held her nose and kept moving. The next room was even worse: It was an open-pit latrine. You don't wanna know how that smelled, and neither did she. However, in the next room, she struck gold... litteraly. It was piled high with gold coins, gold bars, and golden treasure of all descriptions. Gem-encrusted bracelets, golden diadems, suits of gold thread.... a kings ransom in gold lay before her. At the entrance to this treasure room sat a female Drow guard, clad in dark chain-mail with an iron pot-helm and a light pole-arm of some sort. She was asleap at her post. The Drow looked to be about the same height and build as Auriel, and this gave her an idea.... Meanwhile, Eruantian and Chezzo were creeping past the frozen chariot, carefully on the look-out for more attackers... but there were none in sight. Erunatian could see a large banner of red cloth folded up inside the charriot. Chezzo saw it too, and said: "Forget it. It's not worth thawing them out to get at it. We'll find something for me to wear somewhere else. One of these bugbears will have some furs or something... don't sweat it. Come on, follow me. I know were they were keeping your friend." |

Aurieul thought she could handle a sleeping Drow. She looked for anything she could use to hit the Drow so as to avoid accidentally waking her while removing her armor. |

This being an old mine shaft, Auriel had no problem finding a decent-sized rock to bash the guard over the head with. Meanwhile, Tem had totaly lost controll and became completely etherial... passing out of the physical realm entierly. Maxwell shrugged and said: "Oh well.. nothing we can do for him now. Come on, let's go in that cave entrance the Bugbears were blocking." |

After making sure the Drow was unconscious, Aurieul quickly swapped clothes for armor, glanced at all the shiny and pulled one small gem from a close pile to add to her stash and moved along before the Drow woke. |

Prosper was waiting for orders into the mine shaft, but seing as how they were taking a long time in comeing, he headed for the entrence anyway, stopping just outside the mouth, peering into the blackness. His thoughts suddenly went to the vampires, and he backed up rather quickly, hoping noone had noticed. |

<That sounds like Kingdom of Loathing> Tem had no body whatsoever. His only hope was, at this point, to find another Flayer. In the meantime, Tem went ahead, into the cave. He saw Eruantian, but before his security force went nuts, Tem underwent an Ethereal transformation. He sprouted four other tentacles, which then grew to immense proportions. His body disappeared, and he was now a giant octopus. He approached Eruantian, hungry for a rematch... |

Captain Sealem said: "Company, fall out. Prince Drek, the unit is at your command." Drek nodded and said: "Alright, Captain. Come on, everyone. Follow me." And with that, the party entered the cavern. It didn't take them long to find the frozen chariot and to catch up with Eruantian. Maxwell gave Chezzo one of his spare trousers, and Farnham gave him his spare undershirt. Eruantian expained what had happened and Maxwell explained what they had been through. Then, they went in search of Auriel. <OOC: Feel free to jump in here, guys.> |

Eruantian could feel something strange from the ring. The power surge he felt just prior to freezing the chariot faded away. He wondered if that meant that the ring had just calmed down after an intense situation. Eruantian didn't know it yet, but he had just lost the ability to cast any highly destructive spells, for the time being. Offensive spells were reset back to what they were prior to the chariot: Flaming Finger(now with on/off switch) and Arctic Blast(non-lethal). |
