"I'm curious now," Acedia said quietly. "Wish I hadn't used up that rat form, I could go see just who approaches." She shrugged. Her hands were in the pockets on the inside of her black cloak that she wore over a simple brown dress, absently fingering the medallions and identifying each by the imprint on it. Just out of boredom. She could probably identify them all by taste now, she'd had them for so long.

Marcus turned to Acedia. "They're still pretty far off; I can hear them now, but they're a ways away."

Marcus could now eistimate that the riders were about two or three minutes away at their current pace, but becasue of the downpour he couldn't be more exact than that. Marcus was wondering what this could be.

"Okay, everyone, if I snap my fingers, it means I'm going to perform my Mind Blast. It's the mental equivalent of pepper spray, so imagine invulnerability. the massive pain that'll shoot through your body will be less intense. However, the horsemen, if they're unfriendly, will ,ost likeley fall of their horses from the massive pain. We can then question 'em"said Tem"I still don't like it, though. My form's starting to wear out. We need to find a shaman or necromancer to renew my form."

"What if they are friendly?" said Michael to Tem, "People will get hurt for no reason do you want that?".

"Hold on, Tem!" Marcus sniffed some more. "They're just a couple minutes away now...still hard to tell if they're good or bad with this rain...the horses don't smell bad..."

"wait!"said Tem, "I didn't want to do this, but do you guys think I should read their minds? It'll give us some insight on what they're up to."

"Maybe they're not headed for this place at all," Acedia mused. "They could just be strange folk that have accustomed their horses to riding around in storms. Or something." She shrugged. "At any rate, we ought to wait to see if their business lies with this establishment at all before making plans of retaliation. Especially you," she said, directing the last statement to the Flayer. "Why waste your energy on such a powerful attack if there is no call for it?"

Marcus was a little confused. "I've heard of your type before, Tem. Don't you have to...um, suck on their heads to read their minds?"

"No, no, no!"said Tem,"Those are deep flayers. We lost that feat long ago, and now, we developed our teleathy for mind reading. Think of a number between 1 and 10. There's a 100% certainty I'll be right."

<GM's Note: HHFOV, please don't do that. If you want to play, read the rules posted on the first page. Marcus isn't your character, it's Ian's character. So don't write dialog for Marcus; that's Ian's job. Make your own character if you want to play, OK?>

<GM's note: HHFOV, You are SOOOOOOOOOOO banned. This is not a hack&slash, and we don't go around attacking babies for no reason, with no backstory and a two-dimentional character. We're a bit more mature than that. Come back when you grow up, or not at all.
Everyone else, please ignore HHFOV. I hereby retroactively retecon HHFOV out of this game's reality.>

<GM's Note: Er, let me clarify the rules for you, Username. You're not supposed to say what another player's character is thinking or saying. Looking like? Yes. Doing? No. Understand?>

The rain started to let up, and in the space of a few minutes it went from a downpour to meerly a rainshower. The party could see the riders now, coming over the horizon. There was about half a dozzen of them, and they were wearing something shiny, most likely plate armor. The rain made it hard to make out any details, but one of them was clearly holding a banner or a flag of some kind.

"Gyaaaaa! I can't take it anymore! Marcus! Imagine sheer impregnabiltity!"said Tem. Then, he let his psi-shield down. He felt barraged by images, sensations. They were from a neighboring country. That the one holding the banner had a wife and 2 children. Then Tem felt Marcus's concentration slip. The lizardman's thoughts flooded in. Luckily, they were things like"Did I leave the front door unlocked?""I hope that I didn't leave the stove on", etc.
Tem then rebuilt his psi-shield, and went back to the real world. He communicated everything he saw to them. "I really hate that ability"He said.

Acedia turned her attention to the banner and tried to make out the insignia that it bore. "Well, they're probably knights. That's some clarification, at least...if not any reassurance whatsoever," she said, thinking aloud, adding the last part under her breath.

{}{}{: Can I decide what color the banner is?

IF NOT, then disregard the blue text. IF SO, then pay attention to the blue text. :}{}{}

"I'm not familiar with their banner, though," she piped up again. "It's green...no, purple and green - edged with gold, though that could have no bearing at all. There's some kind of insignia in the lower right corner but I can't make it out."

A Brief Journey Into Acedia's Thoughts:
With my luck, they'll stop here and tell us to chop a tree down with a fish or something equally pointless, like buy decorative bushes. Who sells decorative bushes here?

this has been another Obvious Homage To A Monty Python Sketch; the first example is visible to the immediate left of this post, near the Location: tag.

<You already described that, and the players can all read. No sense me repeating it. At this point, I think It's important that I point out to everone that there is a difference between the player's knowedge and his fictional characters' knowedge. That is: If you describe your character's private thoughts but the character doesn't verbalise them, the other players are supposed to pretend like their characters are unaware of what you revealed. This is called "an aside" in the world of fiction. It's like in a cartoon when a character shows the reader some words in a though baloon. The other characters don't know what was being though, but the writer does. In our case, since there's more than one writer, you are all free to take the revealed information and play on it however you want. You can ignore it outright, you can indirectly act upon it, you can file it away for future reference, you can do all sorts of things. Generaly in RPGs, when a player does a an aside, he does it to drive the story, so it's perfectly acceptable.>

The rain was just a sprinkle now, and the riders quicly became visible. Seven of them. They were knights, as Acedia had deduced, with their purple & green heraldry plainly visible uppon a square banner atop a eight-foot pole. The banner was the banner of the Royal Household, which means that these men are from the regiment that serves as the bodyguards of the King and his immediate family.
Each man was clad in a polished steel brest-plate and an open-faced heavy steel helment, with chainmail under that. The helment was of the calvary style, with a short tassle of red-dyed horse hair hanging down from a point at the top of the helm. They bore large square metal sheilds on the left arm, with the coat of arms of the King's Own Horse Guards emblazoned upon it. A red leather brassard covered the upper half of the right arm, upon which was displayed their rank insignia. In addition, the lead rider was wearing a flowing red cape with a silver sash, while the others wore just the silver sash. The horses were clad in chain-mail barding and leather saddles. The lead rider slowed down from a gallop to a trot, and finaly stoped in front of the Inn.
The others continued on without him a ways, but then they too stoped when they reached the end of the village, and then turned around and walked their horses back twoards the Inn. The lead rider looked in the direction of the party. His face showed him to be a middle-aged man with a full beard that was soaking wet on account of the rain. He spoke up: "Excuse me, but might I trouble you a moment? Where might one find the Sherrif in these parts?"

"Well, what do you need him for? Dire wolf problems?"said Tem. He stepped a few paces away from the riders."You're not paladins, are you? If so, I have a restraining order on any Paladins with intent to smite undead."

The Knight's expression turned from mild indifference to marked displeasure. He turned to glare directly at Tem: "Watch your tounge you curr. We are the King's Own Horse Guards, and you will show the proper respect. Do I make myself clear?"
