The ring said: "No problems foreseen. Room opposite should flood and drown the Fire Beetle infestation. However, where the water will drain to after that remains unknown."

Maxwell said: "But we won't be flooded in here, right?"

The ring said: "Afirmitive."

Maxwell shrugged and said: "OK, then. Let's do it."

"Alright. I would suggest standing back," Taryn advised, backing up herself until her back touched the tunnel opposite the ice. Once the three men had moved, if they decided to do so, she brought her hands together, stood still a moment, and with an outward-pushing motion sent a blast of flame at the door, quickly vaporizing the ice. Immediately afterward, she focused the rest of her heat energy on keeping her temperature up in anticipation of the sudden drop in ambient temperature necessary to condense the water vapor.

<OOC> I'll assume the afore mentioned ice is the left-over hammer. </OOC>

Marcus spotted Prosper and drew his sword. "Feel around for my sword; i'm right here, Prosper. And my kilt's bright red. You should be able to find me." He waited somewhat impatiently for the boy to greet him. After all...a Lizzard has to eat...

The room got noticeably colder, and the steam dropped out of the air and formed as millions of tiny droplets on the ground. About a meter and a half of water formed on the ground in the room beyond the door, drowning all the Fire Beetles (who can't swim and don't float.)

<Prosper(OIC): WHAT THE CRAP MAN!? Good thing we got the light back on!>
"Feel for your sword?" Prosper began to say. "Honestly I'd like it bet-" At that moment the dazzeling light display started up agian, revealing the two creatures only a few feet away from each other, Prosoer on his knees with his arms out, Marcus with his sword drawn. The young rouge stood up.
"There we go." he said. "Good things the lights came on. It'd be pretty bad if we fell" He indicated the chasem.

Just then, Marcus heard a trickle of water coming from the wall nearby. The sand that covered the nearby cavern wall was leaking water, in a roughly rectangular-outline pattern. Hrmmmm... whatever could this be.

<GM's Note: It's the buried door that Marcus was sent down to try and find, now holding back all the water that Taryn and Eruntian just made. The water is leaking around it's door frame. The buried door is connected via a tunnel and a staircase to the room that those two on the level above just flooded.>

{ Not to mention the near future of everyone close to that door. Especially those lying prone or supine upon the ground, unable to move. }

"Alright, that seemed productive. Let's see what's in this room." Dimly, Taryn wondered where the water had gone, but didn't concern herself further with the matter, moving forward and ducking through the doorway.

<OOC> My edit to correct the lack Out-Of-Character tags in my previous post didn't go through either and I was out of town for a couple of days. My apologies, lady and gentlemen. </OOC>

"I wonder if she was always this tall" Eruantian thought to himself as Taryn bent herself forward in what was to him plenty of room to stand erect. He dared not ask her about her days before undeath. Second only to Tem, Taryn was an ally who frightened him more than any enemy he had faced in the past few days.

Taryn could see that the room was very plain, about six meters by six meters square, with nothing in it but a locked blue metal chest in one corner and a descending spiral staircase on the left wall. Something (probably the Fire-Bettles) had chewed a small hole in the wall opposite the door frame. Looking through the hole, she could see that it lead to a twisting tunnel too small for any of the party members (except maybe Goldwing or Acedia in her Rat-form) to get through. There were no Fire Bettles left in the room... presumably they had all been swept down the staircase or forced back through the tunnel.

<GM's supposition: I think The Zephyr Song meant the Taryn bent over to poke her head through the door while still keeping her legs planted outside the room.>

{ oic!Tar: I'm 'the Taryn' again. Joy. Ah, well. THE MOST WONDERFUL THING ABOUT TARYNS IS THAT I'M THE ONLY ONE! [/tigger]

Actually, Taryn stands at somewhere between 7'6'' and 7'9'' tall. I dunno how tall the doorway is, but she's made a habit of ducking whenever she enters a room. Whether this is due to her height or due to the fact that she's spent some time in this world's Orient, where bowing is a far more common practice (even upon doing something as simple as entering or exiting a room), is unknown.

And she did step into the room. }

"Hmm, well, this is a bit disappointing," Taryn said after a moment. "Nothing in here but a chest of some kind and a staircase." She crossed the room to the blue metal box and knelt, examining the lock closely and debating whether or not to try and open this strange container. On one hand, there could be something useful or shiny in it. On the other, it could contain all the world's evils or something equally metaphysical and/or horrible.

Prosper saw the outline of the door in the sand, and noticed that the water was still leaking from it.
"I suppose we dig it out of the sand and then turn the handle." he suggested in a matter-of-fact way. "I wonder where all the water's from."

"I dunno," said Marcus, "But I'm thirsty!" He began lapping up the water along the cracks. "Mmmmm, nice and cold..."

As the Lizzard happily refreshed himself, he started digging into the sand. "Wanna help me?"

"Ummm, yeah, sure." replied the boy. He got to his hands and knees around the line of water and began to dig.

Maxwell walked up to the chest and tried the lock. "Hmmm.. locked tight. I bet Prosper could pick the lock, though. Ask your ring if it senses anything dangerous in the chest, Eruantian."

Meanwhile, back in the cavern, Prosper and Marcus managed to dig most of the sand out of the way, revealing a locked iron door in a steel door frame. A set of ancient elven runes were carved around the keyhole.

Around that time, Maria, Captain Sealem and Drek finished the funeral for their dead comrades. Drek wnt over to Horin and tried the Tea. It soothed his aching head.

Captain Sealem got out his whetstone and began sharpening his sword a bit. (It had gotten a bit dull after fighting all those Bugbears, and he likes to keep things in peak condition whenever possible)

Maria walked over to the door and said: Maria said: "Hey guys, what did you find? Oh, cool... a door! Alright, good job guys. Let's see if you can open it."

"If he can't pick the lock, I could probably soften the metal enough to pull the lock off, if not simply melt it entirely," Taryn offered, examining the chest and tapping on it in a few places, to try and divine what could possibly be inside it.

Having been left immobile somewhere near the edge of the light in the Pit, Acedia whimpered - partly to remind everyone that she was still there, and partly because she'd managed to move somehow and disrupt her injuries a bit.

Suddenly Coren "appeared" behind Taryn.
"Do you know what's inside Taryn? Do you?" said Coren while purring. He obviously wanted to see what was inside, probably to see if it was shiny.

{ I was going to make some kind of case criticizing Coren's apparent ability to teleport, but whatever. Let's go with it. }

Taryn jumped and fell back onto her bottom. When she saw it was only Coren, she got back up and knelt again, glaring at the intruding feline. "Don't sneak up on me like that, kitty-boy," she admonished him mockingly, narrowing her eyes and looking back at the chest. "No, I don't know what's inside it. There's definitely something in there, though, unless this thing is made of some really thick metal, which doesn't seem likely. It doesn't sound hollow enough inside to be empty."

<He didn't teleport, he climbed up the side of the cavern and is naturally sneaky, like all cats.>

Eruantian's ring glowed a bright blue and said: "Alert: Trap detected. A trap will be triggered if the lock is improperly tampered with. Destroying the lock will also result in the trap being triggered. Proceed with caution."

Maxwell said: "Great, but what's inside it"

The ring said: "Contents are unknown. Reason: Insufficient information available. A Glyph of Warding is blocking this ring's attempts to probe the indicated container. No further information available at this time."

Maxwell said: "Hrm... we should get Micheal up here. He'd know what to do."

Horin walked over to Acedia with a mortar and pestle in one hand and a bag of herbs in the other. "Aye, and how are ye doing, lass? Is you leg still bothering ye? Well, I've mixed up some Kerin Root paste that should dull the pain a might. You just spread it on the skin an' ye let it soak in. Tis a cooling gel, it 'tis. Once that's on, I'll see if I can work up some more healing magic for ye. Now, lets see that leg of yours."
He set his items on the ground and got to work spreading the cooling paste on Acedia's leg. Instantly, she felt a cooling sensation, and her leg started to go numb. Soon, she could barely feel her toes, but she could still move them. When Horin was done, she couldn't feel her leg at all. There was no pain, although her butt was a little uncomfortable from sitting on the hard rock.

Horin said: "Alright, let's see if I've got enough healing magic now to finish mending that break in thy bone." Horin started chanting and swinging his holy symbol from side to side in front of him, and then he laid hands on Acedia's leg. As he touched her, she saw a flash of light come from his hands, but otherwise she didn't feel any different.

Horin said: "Well, the Kerin Root paste should wear off pretty fast. When you can feel your toes again, we'll see if I mended the bone enough for the splint to come off. Meanwhile, have some tea, lass. Made it myself. Old clan recipe."

<Prosper might be able to pick the lock. It's been a long time thogugh and he's a bit rusty. Besides he has no tools (not even a dagger) But what the heck, Micheals magic and Prospers skils, with a little inginuity, could prove useful.>
Prosper said, "It'll be hard to pick without tools, besides, there's some sort of designs around the lock. Are they words Maria? Can you read them?"

Maria said: "Wellll... it's the ancient Sperithiel script... that is, it's Elven from a very long time ago. It's spelling out someone's name in Runic forms.. someone named "Thuleodar"... and it says that this "Thuleodar" built these passages... and that this is the end of 'the second way out'... whatever that means. Perhaps if I knew what a 'first' way out was. And that's all it says. Strange; Thuleodar is a Dwarven name. Why would a Dwarven name be written in Elvish script?"

{ Ah. I see. }
"Well, that certainly throws a rock into things, doesn't it," Taryn murmured, studying the chest for a few minutes more. "Does the ring know what kind of trap will be triggered? Like falling weights, explosions, walls closing in, spikes, poison gas..." Taryn realized she probably ought to stop listing things off like that so as not to alarm her companions too much. "...Anything to that effect?"

"Thank you, Horin," Acedia croaked. "I don't think I can or ought to sit up, though...my side hurts too much to be simply bruised and this arm is useless," she continued, nodding to her left arm, still broken.

"Ah, let me put a bit of the paste on there, then, and I'll make ye a splint." He put a bit of the paste on her arm, waited a moment, and then pulled a small, flat almost spoon object from his belt, and put a but more on it. "Ye might want to put that on your side, yourself. Now, the splint." He snapped the bone into alignment, and proceeded to apply yon splint. "There, that should do for now, until I can heal it properly."

The ring said: "Nature of trap unknown. Reason: Insufficient information available. A Glyph of Warding is blocking this ring's attempts to probe the indicated container. No further information available at this time."

Maxwell said: "Well, Ring, can you break this 'Glyph of Warding' without setting off the trap?"

The Ring said: "The Glyph of Warding uses metamagical forces that this ring does not have access to."

Maxwell said: "But is is possible to do it, yes?"

The ring said: "Affirmitive"

Maxwell said: "Then tell me how."

The ring said: "Best Estimate: An individual who could cast Anti-Magic Shell on the indicated container should be able to suppress the Glyph of Warding. This may also suppress the trap as the trap is likely to be magical in nature. However, this ring cannot be certain regarding the nature of the trap, as the Glyph of Warding is blocking this ring's attempts to probe the indicated container."

Maxwell said: "Let me guess: You can't cast Anti-Magic shell because you're a magical device yourself, right?"

The ring said: "Affirmative."

Maxwell said: "And I suppose that even if a Anti-Magic shell was in place you STILL won't be able to tell us what's inside it because you rely on magic to detect things, right?"

The ring again said: "Affirmative."

Maxwell sighed. "Great. Whoever designed this trap sure knew what he was doing, eh? What do you thing guys? What should we do?"

Acedia's arm and leg had both been exposed to the air. However, she didn't completely fall out of her clothes in the process of falling into the pit, and so her side was still covered by her bodice and the gown beneath it. She blinked and looked from the spoon-like device to Horin and back. "Er, does this paste work through cloth...? Because if it doesn't, uh, we may have a problem." That problem being that there were two ways to access the injured side: 1) strip Acedia to her skivvies and go from there, or 2) simply cut through the fabric to expose the skin, although that presented the risk of further damage. Hmm. Quite a bind.

Taryn frowned. "Do we happen to have anyone that can cast Anti-Magic Shell?" She was probably not around the last time Michael used that particular spell, or if she was, I don't remember and thus neither does she.
