Marcus twitched. He didn't wanna take crap from some pointy-eared guy, but that pointy-eared guy had a mean little ice ring. Setting down Eruantian's stuff and backing away, Marcus hissed and said a few choice words for the Half-Elf in Lizzard-Tongue. |

Eruantian also uttered a few not-so-courteous words in the elven tongue. "Calen aiuuvanimo. Ilya carak, n'uma nomin. Amin n'dur lle, ethir." <OOC> If anyone manages to translate that, understand that the translation source was limited. Sarge, what do you use for translation? </OOC> |

Being a person of altruism and with unconscious soldiers near the spiders, Andrew responded to Michael saying "But if we leave, those soldiers lives will be in danger, they'll be eaten like bread on a table" |

[Er, there's only one unconscious solider, and Micheal told you to get him up the rope. The other two soldiers died when they fell into the pit.] |

<AAAAAAAND I'm back!! Sorry I took so long!> Prosper watched with some embarrasment as the Half-Elf and Lizzardman squabbled at each other. He turned his attention back to the loot Eruantian had gained. The picklock kit caught his eye. As did the keys. "Give me one of those keys, Eruantian, I'll try the chest. And if you wouldn't mind, I'd like the lock kit too. I know it's not really my place to ask, but what could you do with it?" The Gnomish Spyglass had attracted his attention as well, but since he didn't know what it was, he didn't ask for it. |

"Sorry, Prosper, but no" Eruantian responded, obviously not in the mood to be generous "I'm not giving you the lock picks and I can use a key just fine by myself. Though I do appreciate that you asked, unlike some less civilized thieves I know." After putting the last item in one of the pockets, Eruantian carried his baggage over to the chest and pulled out both keys. "Let's see..." Eruantian said to himself "Which one should I use?" <OOC> Do the keys look at all different from each other? Perhaps one might look somehow related to the chest due to similar design. --------------------------- I had an idea to make a video using still pictures and voice acting, but I don't have time for that in the near future. Here my first idea that I was not going to release because the second one was so much cooler and had more/better jokes.

<OOC: I'm going to try and make Andrew look like the idiot of the moment for my RL misunderstanding, it does fit the fact he trades some rational thinking for altrustim (but he still is a bit on the rational side)> Looking however, he realised that the only soldier alive was the one he was ordered to rope up, Andrew responded to his blunder with the random words "Er...right, I was acting for...a play in case, I get a character with that role...er...I'll just get the living soldier to safety and flee" |

[GM's Note: One key is smaller then the other. The smaller one would appear to fit the lock on the chest, while the other one would appear to be too large.] Captain Sealem said to Eruanian: "I must agree with Master Prosper. He does have some experience with lockpicking, and to my knowledge you do not. Would it not be wise, for the good of the group, to have our must experienced lockpicker in charge of the lockpicks?" Meanwhile, down in the pit, yet more spiders were coming over the edge of the outcroping of rock. Drek said "Drat.... here come more spiders." Quinn grabbed the teapot and the rest of Horin's tea-making gear and went up the rope. Drek said: "We'll tie this Elf to the rope and then haul him up... give me a hand, Andrew." |

Prosper took Eruantians decline gracefully, although he did make a note that Eruantian would probably not be the best person to have on the bad side right now. Captain Sealem then came to his aid, requesting that Prosper have the picks. "It's alright Sealem, it's been a while since I've picked. If we did get to somewhere where I'd have to use them we'd probably have to stand around for a while." The boy turned his attention to Eruantians question; "Use the smaller one. It looks best. By the by, where are the others?" <Those spiders have been crawling twoards the group for a while now, are they going to attack?> |

"*groan* Very well" Eruantian reluctantly agreed, handing over the kit "Here, take it. But don't even think about selling it." Having just parted with a treasure he would never use, Eruantian inserted the small key into the whole then turned it.

"Uhhhh, alright." Prosper didn't really like taking a gift given reluctantly, but if it was free, it was good. He pocketed the kit, wondering if he could still pick the way he used to, with his dagger. He watched and waited as Eruantian turned the key.... |

The chest opened. Inside was a sword, a book, and a glass jar filled with a strangely glowing fluid. |

Eruantian pulled out the items in that order and more thoroughly examined them. |

The sword was a Spatha that looked like this:
The book was a huge, ornately decorated hardcover tome. It measured about 20 x 24 inches square and approximately seven inches thick. It was written in a language that Eruantian couldn't understand. The glass jar was not labeled, but it's contents were green and they cast a pale green light all around the jar. |

Eruantian's eyes lit up with panic as he held the glowing jar. He put the jar down, picked up one of his sacks, poured its contents on the floor, and covered up the glowing jar. "I don't know what that stuff is" Eruantian nervously said "but whatever it is, DO NOT let Marcus see it." Eruantian glanced through a few pages of the book. Though he couldn't understand the words, he figured it might have been Aclabar's spell book or something; it was useless, possibly even dangerous in Eruantian's hands. "As long as we are being practical about who gets what, I say Micheal should get this book. I'm keeping the sword; Maxwell will no doubt want his back when he wakes up. The floor is open on what to do with the glowing jar." Having just dumped the contents of one of his bags onto the floor, Eruantian began putting assorted items into the other bags. <OOC> Is that a short sword or a long sword? </OOC> |

"I'll take the jar," Taryn offered, stepping forward. Acedia remained floating by her side. "I have a place to store it until we can examine it more closely, and whatever's inside is not likely to hurt me if I handle it." After a bit more rooting around in her bag, she finally located that wheeling-chair and pulled it out, setting it up and carefully placing Acedia into it. Bearing only little resemblance to a modern wheelchair, it looked more like someone had literally taken a kitchen chair, riveted a sheepskin to the seat and back, cut off the legs and just added three wheels to it, two larger ones on the side and a smaller one in the back for balance. A shallow basket had been attached to the underside of the chair for storing light objects, and there were two wood-and-leather panels in the front that could be raised to keep a broken leg straight. |

"What stuff? I wanna see! I'm bored; I wanna smash some monsters! Or eat. You wanna eat?" |

[GM's history lesson & descriptive elaboration: The spatha was a type of straight sword with a long point, measuring between 0.75 and 1 m. Archaeologically, many instances of the spatha have been found in Britain and Germany. It was used extensively by Germanic warriors but whether it came from the Pompeii gladius or the longer Celtic swords or served as a model for the various broadswords and Viking swords of Europe is a highly speculative topic. The spatha remained popular throughout the Migration Period. It could have evolved into the knightly sword of the High Middle Ages from about 1100, but the large number of sword types that appeared during the period are difficult to connect for certain. Specific details of their manufacture and the models used by their manufacturers remain chiefly unknown. This particular sword is 970 centimeters from tip to pommel. The blade is made of hand-hammered steel, and the small hilt is made of the same piece of steel as the blade but gilded with gold plate. The grip is wrought iron inlaid with silver, and the pommel is a hollow sphere of hand-hammered brass inlaid over wrought iron.] Farnham said: "Erunatian, ask your ring if it can tell us what's in the glass jar." |

"Oh... Um... I was talking about... Um..." Eruantian held the bag tightly over the lid of the jar "This trick I can do with my eyes!" Eruantian activated his Eye Lighter power and looked strait into Marcus' eyes with the luminescent equivalent of a blue spot lantarn, which he hoped would impair Marcus' vision. "I know you like shiny stuff" Eruantian said as he handed Taryn the pocket with the jar in it "Don't take my eyes away, they wouldn't work for you." |

<Lol, poor Marcus> Prosper thought that Eruantian's splitting of the loot was fair enough, and so didn't raise a peep about any more loot. As the Marcus-Jar thing happened, Prosper just stood and watched. In truth he felt a bit sorry for the big lizard, but didn't want to get any closer to a thrashing, well-muscled anthropomorph. Prosper wondered for a split second what the rest of the party was doing... |

Erunatian's ring said: "This ordinary glass jar contains a potion. Anaylsis of said potion reveals that it contains alchemical properties mostly consistent with those found in previously encountered potions of Regeneration. On the whole, then, this ring's analysis suggests that It is logical to conclude that this is a Potion Of Regeneration, although absolute certainty cannot be achieved by the analysis of this ring due to an unknown factor in the potion's composition. That is to say, this potion differs slightly from the alchemical model previously established in this ring's memory as belonging to the Regenerative class of alchemical structures. There is an unknown component in this potion that cannot be identified at this time." Maria raised an eyebrow and said: "Interesting...the ring says there's an unknown component to this potion. That's very unusual, considering how old this ring is. Perhaps we should get an alchemist to examine it. It might be important." Farnham said: "Perhaps Thurendel can tell us something about it. Or Micheal." Captain Sealem shook his head and said: "Micheal is a Mage, and Thurendel is a Druid. They are not specialist in alchemical matters. I dare say we would need to consult an Alchemist if we want to know more about what's in this jar, and an expert Alchemist at that. Perhaps the Herbalist back in Targos could tell us where to find one." Farnham shook his head: "I'd like to, but that's a bit too far out of our way, don't you think? We need to get to Squiddy Man Mountain to stop the Drowish mining operation there as soon as possible. Can't let them unleash their spider goddess on the world." Meanwhile, Quinn and Andrew were hauling the unconscious Elven Swordsman up out of the pit. They had tied him to the end of the rope by his chest and arms, had climbed up the rope, and now were using Horin's Wagon to pull him up. Drek and Micheal were still in the pit, facing the hordes of Giant Spiders crawling over the edge of the floor. Micheal said: "It's times like these that I really regret not having a Fireball spell. One good blast and I could roast them all. :sigh:" Drek said: "Why don't you just colorspray them again? Micheal nodded: "Yeah, that's not a bad idea. Ok, close your eyes while I dazzle them again. Here goes..." Drek closed his eyes and Micheal Colorsprayed the Spiders again. Micheal said: "Ok, that's got it. You can open your eyes again. Now let's get the heck out of here before they wake up." |
