"No, YOU'RE the liar!" Marcus yelled. "You just don't want me in the party. I was here from the start, and you come in & kick me out because you can read minds!" The lizzardman drew his sword, but the Flayer was gone. |

Prosper cursed himself for his inability to react, than ran over to Marcus just in time to catch the gist of the conversation. He stood, stunned at how blunt and forward Tem had been with Marcus. Shakeing himself out of his stupor, he walked up to Drek."'ello, I don't think we've met yet, I'm Prosper." |

Aurieul gaped at the scene which just took place before her. Horses and horsemen disappeared, an elf? appeared and almost as soon disappeared again, and...it was unbelievable. Nothing like this had happened here before. In her amazement, she stepped closer to the group. Hey, isn't that the kid who wanders the streets? She thought, seeing Prosper. She was now close enough to be seen by everyone, but she didn't realize just how close she was until she came up next to a girl she thought she'd seen before. |

Maxwell and Farnham came out of the Inn. Unaware of what had occured with the illusionary Knights and the Drow wizzard, they seemed unconcered and began casualy chating. "Ah, good. The rain's stoped." said Maxwell. Farnham said: "I think we could make it to Targos by nightfall if we hurry, but we'd have to set out right away." Maxwell said. "Hrm, I don't know. It's probably all mud by now, that would slow us down quite a bit wouldn't it?" Farnham said: "Ah, but the road between here and Targos was upgraded to gravel last summer, remember? It'll shouldn't be too muddy at all. We could still make it." Maxwell said. "Oh yes... you're right. I'd completely forgoten about that. Well then, we can eat on the road I suppose. Let's ask Drek what he thinks, he a more experienced outdoorsman than we are. Farnham nodded in agreement and turned towards Drek." It was then that the two of them noticed the expresions of everyone's faces. Farnham imediately put his hand near his sword-hilt, but he didn't actualy lay his hand upon it... just close enough top be ready in case quick action was called for. "What is it Drek, what's wrong?" he said. |

meanwhile, Tem had once again gone ethereal. Then he watched Marcus walk off. He de-etherealized and whispered in Marcus's ear"I'm sorry about my bluntness. I would, however, like to be in your heist. Being able to pass through walls and read a guard's mind could come in handy. I don't even want any jewels. Just recognition as a thief. Think about THAT."Tem walked over to Maxwell "Maxwell! you'd never beleive what happened! This Drow psion attacked us, then disappeared into thin air. We might want to look into this." |

{}{}{: Sorry for being silent for two pages. I've had an exciting end of the week. o_o :}{}{} Acedia, having been distracted by something, had immediately dropped into a protective ball as soon as Tem had used that mental-equivalent-of-pepper-spray ability..or had he? At any rate, she'd had occasion to curl up on the floor. Her medallions had briefly gone haywire as well, and now that she'd felt recovered enough to stand again, she had simultaneously a craving for: cheese, small rodents, insects, berries, and blood. (That's right, she has a few more forms - specifically, a screech owl, a vampire bat, and a tarsier.) She pressed a hand to her forehead and blinked a few times, leaning one shoulder against the wall in an attempt to get the room to stop spinning. Drunkenness is probably not a very different experience in Acedia's case. And then she noticed someone who had walked up to her. Aurieul. Acedia took a few more deep breaths and then looked up, meeting Aurieul's gaze. "Hello," she said, after a short pause. She was still a little disoriented. |

[OOC: Marcus did tell Tem the truth; he was one of the first people Maxwell asked to come on the journey.] Marcus hurried up to Maxwell. "Sir! Sir! There were all these nights, but then there was a real strange wave of...something...we all felt it. It felt like someone was sucking my brain out! My head hurt real bad, but I'm better now, I think. But..." He noticed that the knights were gone. "where did the knights go?" |

Maxwell was alarmed and astonished. If what Tem and Marcus had said was true, this expedition has just gotten a whole lot more dangerous. "A Drow?! Are you certain? Tem, Marcus; This is very important. You must tell me everything that happened. Leave out no details.. a Drow would not have acostted us without their being some plan involved, and if we hope to survive we must know what part we play in their plans." |

Marcus presented himself. The man in black didn't turn to look at Marcus: "What's good about it?" was all he said. Marcus could see the man had a plate of food on the table in front of him. Some sort of stew, by the looks of it, with a wooden spoon in it. No weapons were aparant. The man was wearing a long black cape, a black heavy broad-brimed hat, and black panteloons. His shirt was open at the chest, but an undershirt was visible there. On the bench oposite him a large sack and a heavy leather greatcoat sat piled together. "I'd like to make an offer with you, sir. Acedia blinked at Aurieul for a few seconds. "Honestly..I'm not sure," she said, slowly. "You wouldn't happen to have any cheese on you, would you? Or berries?" The rodent/insect/blood craving was still present - cheese and berries were really the only thing one could ask of a stranger without getting strange looks, as Acedia had discovered the hard way. 'Have you got a few insects around, or perhaps a decanter of blood? I'm feeling a bit peckish...' Doesn't really work in the company of civilized and non-vampiric folk. |

Marcus looked up to see an middle-aged man wearing a powdered black wig under a tri-cornered hat. The hat had a silver pin on one side with a short feather protruding verticly from that. He was clad in an ordinary tunic and breeches (trousers) and a long iron sword hung by his side. The man looked down at Marcus, and he said "You've found him. Or rather, he's found you." The man assumed as he took a step back, putting the normal speaking distance between himself and Marcus. The man did not look amused. "I am Peter Cranston, the Sherrif of this shire by the right of his Lordship The Baron. I suppose you are one of these adventurer's I've heard about, the ones who stayed in the Inn last night? What's going on here?" |

Maxwell imediately doffed his hat to the sherrif. "Greetings, My Lord. Would that this was a better day. The sherrif replied: "And why is that?" Maxwell said: "You're not going to belive this. I scarsely believe it myself. It seems that my companions and I have run afoul of the Drow" The Sherrif obviously did not belive Maxwell, and his deadpan voice and droll voice reflected this: "Really. I suppose you have the head of a Drow too and are about to ask me to send word to the King?" Maxwell was painfully aware how outlandish a tale it must sound. After all, he hadn't actualy seen the Drow or the illusionary knights either. All he had to go on was the eyewitness acounts of his compatriots, and that likely wouldn't convince this skeptical Sherrif: "No, m'lord we do not have it's head, but I assure you we were accosted..." The sherrif cut him off: "You'll have to forgive me, but this is just a simple logging town, and I'm but a lowly Sherrif of a rather poor shire. I've never seen a Drow before. Tell me, what did it look like?" Maxwell felt rather embarased. He knew he would get no help from this sherrif without some proof, and he had none.. none the sherrif was liklely to accept, anyways: "Well, you see I didn't actualy see it, but our good woodsman, master Drek, did. In fact, of all the members of our party, only myself and my brother Farnham were inside when the Drow attacked." "So, you weren't actualy attacked by a Drow at all" "Not me Sir, no." "Then, no offense, but I'd like to talk to someone who actualy saw this Drow, if that's alright with your leader." "Er, yes.. I quite see your point, m'lord. My appologies. Eh, master Drek did see the Drow, as did good master Marcus and the lad Prosper.. er, where's the boy got to now?" Maxwell looked about for Prosper. The Sherrif held up his hand in a dismissive way: "that will do, mister Maxwell. I only need the one of you. Now, tell me, which one of you actualy SAW this Drow, Hmm? Come on, speak up, I don't have all day." Tem, who was trying not to let stray thoughts in, never the less got the distinct impression that this Sherrif was not of a friendly disposituon, and that he was annoyed for having his time wasted. He plainly did not believe that the Drow were real, much less that anyone in the party saw one. Meanwhile, several people were pokeing their heads out of windows and doorways to observe the exchange. A crowd wasn't forming, but the people were currious never the less. They were just being currious from a distance. |

The Sherrif was a bit shaken by the tale, but he managed to maintain his composure. He said: "I see.. that's quate a story, but I'm not sure what to make of it. In any case, I'm hardly in a position to be fighting anything that powerfull. I don't even have a garrison or a detchment of rangers. I could call out the millitia, but to do that I'd need some sort of hard evidence of an imenent threat to the town." |
