Michael said "Magic, oaky and familiar...I bet that it is Thurendel..."
Andrew heard Maria's screams for help, "Maria seemed to have found the portal and she sounds like she needs helped!"
After speaking, Andrew tried to find Maria hastly with Michael thinking, "Why does that Monk always have to be on the rush?..." and than followed at a walking pace.

Taryn, in the meantime, had been standing outside a black-painted door with a spiderweb stretched over it, contemplating going through it. She'd opened the door to see what was on the other side; that portal led to what appeared to be some culture's idea of Death. Nothing but a slow-moving river with no obvious source, flowing away from the door and stretching infinitely in all directions. Heavy fog meant it was impossible to see very far, but the occasional rotting body part stuck out of the water here and there, and the sound of rapids in the distance was present, although faint. The high-pitched tinkling of a bell sounded and Taryn immediately shut the door again.

Acedia hadn't found anything of interest and was just kind of wandering around on her own, not sure what she could do to help Maria and thus disregarding her cries.

Maria continued to try to open the window as Andrew ran around trying to find her.

<You're all in the same room, so it's not very hard to find each other, OK? There's a central column that contains the spiral staircase, but other than that all sight lines are clear within the room>

"You need some help with opening that door, Maria?" Marcus called. "A little extra muscle won't hurt!"

Maria smiled and said: "Yes, thank you Marcus. Let's push together... 1... 2...3.. PUSH!"

The window-frame buckled... and splintered... and finally the window frame popped open. Oddly enough, the glass didn't crack. But then, The City Of Doors is a very odd place.

Thurendel was quite startled when he head the window open. From his perspective, a window had magicly appeared out of thin air not ten meters away. Talk about unexpected. He composed himself and said: "Well now, there's something you don't see every day. Is that you in there, friend Marcus?"

Just then, Maxwell said: "Hey, has anyone seen Goldwing?"
Farnham said: "Yeah, don't worry. It just flew up the staircase. Drek, you better go find your bird before it gets lost."
Drek said: "Goldwing's fine. It's just hunting." Drek put two fingers in his mouth and whistled. A few minutes later, Goldwing flew down the staircase and landed at Drek's feet and deposited a small mouse there.... which it immediately started tearing at with it's beak. Drek gently patted his bird on the head. "That's a good birdy. Found yourself a snack, did you?"

Goldwing didn't make a sound, it just kept eating the mouse until it was all gone. Then, it flapped it's wings and flew up to the open window, landing on the window sill.

<GM's note: In architecture, a sill is the bottom edge of a window or door>

"Hmm..." Eruantian thought about this seemingly very fair deal. "I'll take that offer, but don't make me sign too many papers when I check out my equipment. I've got somewhere to be. Deal?" Eruantian was about to bend over and put his hand forward to shake, but he thought twice about accidentally crushing the gnome's tiny hand.

The Gnome said: "Ok, I'll expedite the sale. Simple trade, the bag for the platinum and the spyglass, and I'll wave the holding fee for your items for the next three days. Hold on, I'll just go grab that bag for you." The gnome shook Eruantian's hand and then dashed down the stairs under the trap door.

Eruantian was correct about the Gnome's tiny hands: It was like shaking the hand of a small boy.

The Gnome was back mere seconds later. He was smiling from ear to ear. "This one's a beuaty. Here ya go. In the original paper wrapper, no less. It's made by a Suldeneselarian Wizzard I know. Makes them in his spare time. It's like a hobby for him."

"Thanks" Eruantian thanked the gnome "Let's test this thing out." Eruantian opened his bag of not holding and dumped the contents into the magic bag. Amazingly, the items disappeared when they fell in. "Just like the lizardman boasted" Eruantian thought to himself regarding this one time between leaving Targos and the conversation with Tyr when Marcus wouldn't shut up about all his belongings and muscles.

"Alrighty, I'll just go downstairs and wait for my stuff at the door. You'll have to get the guards out of the basement; I handed them the note."

"Oh, I meant tower... Not basement" Eruantian said somewhat embarrassed "I'll just go to the hatch down the shelf... Er, door down the stairs." Eruantian was a bit off for some reason. He thought to himself "Is this Helm of Planes messing with my head or did I do more damage when I teleported than I thought?"

The Gnome crossed his arms and said: "Messing with your head? I'll have you know I only stock quality merchandise in this establishment. Why, may Gnarda strike me down where stand if I have ever knowingly misled a customer into buying faulty products. Here, let me see that... Ah, no wonder... you've got in on backwards!"

<GM's Note: The gnomish deity Gnarda is said to have created the entire mortal race of Gnomes at the same time he created the other gnomish gods. As such, he is considered as a sort of overlord for the whole of the gnomish pantheon. While he does not actually lead the gnomish pantheon (that role falls to his "adopted son" Garl Glittergold), all the other gnomish deities either greatly fear Gnarda or value his council and advice. Clerics of Gnarda are not spellcasters: Gnarda does not grant his followers a portion of his power, but rather he imparts wisdom and knowledge to them. Because of this, Clerics of Gnarda often find work as judges, lawyers, teachers, scribes and sometimes even as political or military leaders.

The Gnomish merchant Eruantian is talking too was brought up to believe in Gnarda (as well as many other gnomish gods), but he's not a particularly religious fellow. That is to say; He doesn't visit the temples more than once or twice a month, and when he goes there, his real reason for going is usually that he has business contacts with the other people who go there. So, he maintains his religious beliefs mainly to keep his wealthy place in gnomish society, which expects such things from him.

"Oh..." Eruantian said somewhat embarrassed "Well, at least I wasn't talking backwards." Eruantian put the helm on the correct way and teleported to the front gate to wait for his stuff.

The guards brought Eruantian's stuff out and put it in his new Bag Of Holding for him.
The first guard said "There, all done. Enjoy your new bag, sir."

Eruantian's ring spoke up, saying: "Cataloging item data. Information: Unlike a Portable Hole, a Bag Of Holding does not have infinite holding capacity. While a bag of holding appears to be a common cloth sack of about 2 by 4 feet (0.6 by 1.2 m) in size, it opens into a nondimensional space, making it's insides larger than its outside dimensions. User Eruantian's particular Bag Of Holding is slightly unusual in that it always weighs the same amount, 15 lb (7 kg), regardless of what is put into it. It can store a combined weight of up to forty times its own weight, and a combined volume of 250 cubic feet (7 m³). A living creature put in any Bag Of Holding will suffocate after about 10 minutes. Any person that knows the contents of a particular Bag Of Holding and then reaches into said Bag Of Holding (through the opening) will always be able to find the object or objects he or she (or it) wants to get. Any person that does not know the contents of the Bag Of Holding he or she (or it) has reached into will get not be able to find any particular object; Rather, they will randomly grasp empty space and/or randomly grasp the contents of the bag.

If any Bag Of Holding is overloaded, or if sharp objects pierce it (from outside or inside), the bag will rupture and be ruined, the contents lost forever in non-space. Such ruptured bags can only be repaired by a competent Talismonger, for an appropriate fee of course.

ATTENTION: Placing a Portable Hole inside a Bag Of Holding (or vice-versa) can result in a catastrophic implosion that will collapse an area of normal-space approximately 7 cubic kilometers in volume. For obvious reasons, the gods have decreed that all Portable Holes and Bags Of Holding must be (and consequently are) designed with a magical safety feature that normally prevents the placing of the one inside the other. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU ATTEMPT TO DEFEAT THIS SAFETY FEATURE!"

The second guard said: "Oh, so THAT'S why that happens. Huh, and all this time I though I did it wrong."
The first guard said: "Wait a minute, since when do you have a portable hole!?"
The second guard said: "I don't. Well, not since I tried putting it in a Bag OF Holding. When I did that, they both disappeared and I haven't been able to find them since."

"Well, it's been fun, gents" Eruantian said farewell to the guards "May your customers never be few."

Eruantian commanded the Plane of Helms... Er, Helm of Planes to take him to Captain Sealem.

Eruantian commanded the Plane of Helms... Er, Helm of Planes to take him to Captain Sealem.

Eruantian heard a loud ::POP:: and suddenly he was no longer in The Prime Material Plane. Rather, he was flying at an astounding speed through Astral Space with his physical body intact. Objects flew by too fast for Eruantian to get a good look at, and the area in front of him took on a reddish hue while the area behind him seemed to have taken on a bluish hue.
His intelligent ring said: "Welcome to TransPlanar Travel. Next stop: The City Of Doors. In case of a water landing, this ring may bes used as a flotation device. To hurl chunks, please direct your face downstream of your direction of movement. As time has little meaning here, so we will be arriving momentarily... literally momentarily. Thank you for flying Helm Of The Planes."
Eruantian could see a rapidly approaching spire, on top of which was situated a sprawling city of steel and glass... and then he seemed to fly right through solid objects and with another loud ::POP::, he found himself materializing inside a water-filled room with many strange doors, windows, and Kuo-Toa.
Image
<GM's note: Obviously, Eruanitan's Helm has somehow missed it's target and has landed Eruantian in a room of The City Of Doors OTHER THAN the room where Captain Sealem & co. are currently leavening via a certain window to Thurendel's Forest. The Kuo-Toa are water-dwelling not-very-intelligent creatures that look like... well... fish-people. They are generally not friendly to humanoids, and usually live underwater, although some sub-species can survive on dry land. In the recent past, bands of Kuo-Toa have been implacable enemies of both the Mer-Men tribes and the Lizzardmen tribes, but some Kuo-Toa mercenaries have been know to occasionally sell their services to land-dwellers and sea pirates, for the right price.>

Eruantian's intelligent ring said: "DANGER: Involuntary Submersion Detected; Emergency oxygen supply activated. Floatation ready on demand."
Eruantian found that he could breath, although the shock of suddenly finding himself deep in luke-warm salt-water did take his breath away momentarily. He was all wet (no pun intended), but he was very much alive and non the worse for wear.

One of the Kuo-Toa swam towards Eruantian and said: "Bubble-burblle Buublly bubb. Gurrgel, gglwwes spurt-spurt...." and other unintelligible gobbledy-gook. It seemed to be trying to communicate, but the long steel trident in it's (Hand? Flipper? Fin?) that it was pointing at Eruantian's face seemed to indicate that perhaps it wasn't friendly.

Goldwing peeped a little "Peep" and looked towards it's master, Drek. Dreek seemed to understand what his bird was saying, for he casualy said: "Go on, you know you want to." As he finished saying this, the eagle flaped it's wings once and then took off from the window sill, flying into the air above Thurendel's head. Thurendel smiled said: "Ah, the Eagle Goldwing has returned. And how are you this day, my fine feathered friend?" Goldwing screeched in reply and went into a dive, snatching a chipmunk off the forest floor and then soaring up into a tree to eat it's prey. Thuerendel chuckled and said: "Still the hunter, I see." Drek said: "She's been a little out of sorts ever since we went underground. Just let her fly around for a while."

As Marcus and Maria climbed through the window (which was, by the way, only a few feet off the forest floor), Thruendel said: "Well met, and welcome, heroes. May Gaia's blessings be upon ye. The Pixes will be joyous to learn of your return. Then again, there's not much that doesn't make then joyous these days. Did your quest to stop the Drow succeed?"

<GM's discontinuity: Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, Eruantian was staring silently at the Kuo-Toa pointing it's trident at him. It poked him with a stick and said: "Be less silent!">

[[ I've found myself without homework (gaspshockhorror)...so imma post. xD ]]

Taryn and Acedia made their way through the window as well, quietly and without attracting attention to themselves. Especially since Taryn, just for a change of pace, floated through the window as a cloud of smoke rather than trying to step through it. Humanoid feet met the ground, however, so she did not stay in this gaseous form for very long.

(Er... Acedia is still in the city with Prosper and Tem... remember?)

Meanwhile, Tem, Prosper and Acedia had clamored through the various sewer, steam, and water pipes, through long-abandoned tunnels, and out through an air vent before finally reaching their objective: The vast mines underneath the city. They managed to get next to the Cow Brain warehouse undetected and now were trying to figure out a way to get in there that wouldn't attract too much attention.
This part of the mining level was relatively wide and open: Prosper estimated that the distance from the floor to the roof must be at least a hundred feet, and from what he could see, he estimated that the corridor they were in must be about 40 feet wide. The roof was held up in this area by a network of iron girders and bamboo poles, all of which served to create an arching structure that transfered the structural load of the roof onto anchor points in the granite floors and walls. Which was a good thing because if that roof wasn't supported, it would likely collapse. (!)
As the three crouched in the darkness of an alleyway between two mud-brick buildings, (one of which was the Cow-Brain warehouse) Tem whispered: "There must be a window or a door or something we can sneak through. Acedia, go sneak around in rat-form and look for a way in, alright?"

<OOC> Sorry. For reasons I will not mention, I was unable to access the internet for the weekend. Thankfully not TOO much has happened on this thread.

However, I seem to have run into another complication. At first, a small thing-a-ma-bob would be misplaced here and there. Now, I've lost a gigantic box that you couldn't possibly miss if you wanted to. I think my room has somehow been magically altered to act in similar fashion to a Bag of Devouring.

This is my last will and testament; If I or my computer should mysteriously disappear, I want Ian to have my Master Replicas™ GM's Poking Stick, The Zephyr's Song to have what remains of my Bonus Experience Points, and Sarge to return that barrel of rum I hid in his basement to Droideka.</OOC>

"GET ME OUT OF HERE" was what Eruantian tried so hard to say. All he managed to utter with all that water in his mouth was "GGER MR RT FF HHRRR!" Specifically, he had in mind the place of arrival for his friends as his ring's intended destination; though no one with a fish man pointing a sharp object at him is likely to say anything specific.

<OOC> There's a mouse that's been scurrying back and forth between my room and the kitchen. I wander what's going to get it first: the newly placed mouse traps or my Room of Devouring? </OOC>

Once all the water ::SLOSHED:: off his body and his eyes were clear again, he could make out the backs of Micheal, Maxwell and Farnham standing in a room full of doors and windows, with some other familiar people he knows making their way through a window. They didn't notice him.
