The sherrif said: "Well, there be no hard evidence yet, but I belive you were attacked. By what, I'll not hazzard a guess, but I think you all best be off to your destination before it returns with some of it's friends. I can't imagine what anything powerfull enough to attack you and then disapear without a trace would want with this sleepy little logging town, so I imagine we'll be safe enough." The Sherrif came down from the roof, and walked over to the Blacksmith's workbanch. He borrowed a quill pen and a peice of parchment. He wrote a short not on the parchment. He then rolled up the note and bound it with a string. "This is a note adressed to the Magistrate of Targos. It explains your situation and contains my vouch-safe for your party. What the Magistrate does with it is up to him, but it should at least buy you a favorable auidience with him. I'm not a high-born nobleman, but the Magistrate has dealt with me enough that he and I have a mutual respect for our jurisprudence. Take the note to him and ask him to look into the matter of the drow. I'll keep watch over the town and send for reenforcement from wherever I can get them from. Take these horses and go. The note also makes you all officialy Deputy Auxillery Scouts of His Magesty's Loyal Millitia. It confers practicly no legal authority to you, but at least you're officals of the law now. If this really is a return of the drow, we're gonn a need all the help we can get, so good luck. That's about the extent of my official powers, and it's the best I can do to help you. You should hire horse to speed you on your way; I'm off to find the wake the courier so I can send word to the other shires. Untill we meet again, good adventures." >>>>>>>>END OF CHAPTER ONE<<<<<<<<< |

Aurieul had noticed an elf with the party. Maybe he could help her find out about her heritage. But it looked as though they were leaving town. Oh well, what did she have keeping her here anyhow? Constant reminders of someone she'd never see again. "Excuse me sir," Auriel said, walking up to the man who seemed to be in charge, "might I join you?" |

The Lizzardman couldn't get the hang of riding a horse. His people never rode them; they were sufficiently fast runners, and had plenty of stamina. "Do I have to ride this, sir?" Marcus asked. "I'm fine with running and walking alongside you guys. I can last all day and night on my feet." Suddenly Marcus noticed Aurieul. "Hey you! You can ride my horse." |

"Thank you for your generosity, Marcus." Aurieul hopped on the horse like the pro rider she was. It actually felt good to be up on a horse again. She hadn't had a chance to ride in months. |

Marcus looked up at Aurieul. "You're real pretty," He smiled, "You smell good, too." He noticed that she resembled an elf, but not fully. "Are you an elf? You kinda look like one." Marcus pointed to the full-blood Elf. "That's Drek. But I'm all-Lizzard!" Proudly, Marcus flexed his bulging biceps. |

Aurieul blushed slightly at the complement. "I'm half-elf, though until today, I've never seen an elf before...if you can believe it." |

Drek maneuvered his horse over to where Aurieul was riding. "Very pleased to meet you, miss. It has been a long while since I have seen another elf. My name is Drek." |

Maxwell, seeing that a new person had joined the party, rode his horse over to Aurieul. "If I may be so bold as to introduce myself, miss? I am Maxwell VonTrapp, and this is my brother Farnham." Franham tipped his hat (in a gentlemanly gesture) and said: "A pleasure to make your aquanience, miss." Maxwell continued: "It was Farnham and myself that commissioned this expedition. It seems you desire to join our party of adventure; I'll not turn you away, for any friend of Marcus and of Drek's is a friend of mine. However, I feel I should warn you of the dangers that we face. We are hunting a Dire Wolf, and when we find that monster we intend to slay it. What's more, we have recently been attacked by what appeared to be a Drow. I would be remiss in my duties as party leader if I didn't inform you that this party is not a safe place." |

"You have a beautiful name, Aurieul. Did you know that it is Elven? In the old language it means "starlight". It suits you." Drek was silent for a moment. "If I may, do you know what happened to your father?" |

Marcus made his way to Maxwell, at the front of the party. "Sir! Is it alright if I went ahead to scout? I'm a real fast runner and I can hold off any enemies or monsters!" |

Acedia had pondered briefly over the problem of riding a horse in a simple floor-length skirt - deciding absolutely against trying to keep her balance riding sidesaddle - and resolved simply to rip it. Thus she caught up with the group shortly, now sporting a fairly crude mockery of royals' dress, with her outer skirt ripped up the center about seven inches below the waist, revealing a simple petticoat, which was ripped along the sides, but that was covered by the outer skirt. Enough to be able to ride while maintaining modesty - it beat hiking up the skirt, anyway. It didn't take her very long to re-master the act of riding a horse, as she used to frequently but had not in a considerable number of years. She noticed Aurieul and Drek flirting but didn't say anything. {}{}{: You're adorable, guys. X3;; :}{}{} |

If you're outnumbered, try and get back to us so we can all fight the enemy together. Try and report back by sundown." Maxwell extended his hand: "Stay safe, friend." <GM's note: Excelent role-playing, Guys. . I'm very happy with the quality of the players I have for this game. :thumbs up:>

"Yessir." Marcus broke into a quite fast run. Within minutes he was out of sight. The Lizzardman didn't hear or smell anything out of the ordinary, but he was ready. |

"My mother told me it was Elven, but she could not remember it's meaning. It is good to know." Aurieul drooped slightly at the mention of her father. "I'm not sure. My mother told me he went back home to help his family, but his brother eventually sent word that he never showed up. We could only assume he had died during the journey." |

"Hmm. Perhaps after we slay the Dire wolf we can investigate to find out exactly what happened. It's possible he is still alive." He thought for a moment. "It may be wise to go to Suldeneselar anyway. If the Drow are rising up, the elves may know more about it. Until then, Aurieul, I would be happy to teach you about the elves if you like." |

"I would like that very much. Thank you!" Aurieul was pleased. She had met an elf, and he was going to help her find out about her father. And, she wasn't alone for the first time in two months. True, this would be no walk in the park, but what good was she doing anyone staying in this town anyways. It was time for something new. |

After an hour or so, Marcus stopped running and slowed down to a leisurely walk. The tall grass on opposite sides of the road waved in the gentle wind. Marcus could hear a faint murmur of music approaching him...some kind of stringed instrument. With his hand on his sword, Marcus walked a little faster for half a minute. Suddenly a halfling appeared from a small break in the grass, playing a lute & humming a merry tune as he skipped by...and ran into Marcus's leg. The small man fell on the ground, and Marcus drew his sword. "Who goes there, little man?" The halfling looked up at Marcus, terrified. "H-h-h-h-h-Harris, s-s-s-sir. Harris Elmwood. J-j-j-ust a f-f-f-friendly Gnome bard." The top of Harris's cap could barely brush Marcus's waist. "Please don't eat me." "Hahaha! Why would I eat you?" Marcus laughed. "You play real pretty music. I was walking along the road, scouting ahead for a party of horsemen, when I heard you playing that little thing." "Oh," Harris sighed, "Why thank you! I've never even seen a Lizzardman before, much less gotten a compliment from one." "Thank you, Mr. Elmwood." Harris reached into his bag & pulled out a small drinking pot. "Gnome tea, Mr. Lizzard? Brewed in the sunshine from rise to set!" "Why, I'd love some!" Marcus sheathed his sword & sat down next to the Gnome. "And please, call me Marcus." The Lizzardman took the drinking pot in his claw & gently sipped the tea. It tasted mildly bitter, but very sweet. [OOC: I have my own ideas for where this is going, so please, nobody mess with this, except for Sarge, in case I'm doing anything wrong. Thanks. ]

What Marcus didn't know was that Gnome tea is not a "tea" at all. As anyone from one of the more "intelligent" races of Skara Brae will tell you, Gnome tea contains a powerful psychedelic very similar to Psilocybin, which is found in "magic mushrooms". Marcus was especially unfortunate, because this hallucinogen is extremely potent in Lizzardmen. As soon as he finished his tea, Marcus began to feel very strange. The sky seemed to turn a rich purple, and the grass seemed to grow into gigantic trees. Harris turned into a giant in Marcus' twisted mind, and his voice deepened accordingly. What Ogres & Lizzardmen fail to learn, Is never to take the wrong turn, And then meet a Gnome, for you will see The colors in your eyes from our Gnome Tea! And with that little poem, Harris ran off, his voice roaring and his footsteps banging. Of course, he was hardly half of Marcus's height, but under the influence of the tea, everything seemed bigger to Marcus, and the Lizzardman felt smaller than an ant. Marcus could do nothing but run around screaming, swinging his sword at imaginary giant butterflies that the hallucinogenic tea had created in his mind. Marcus zigzagged along the path, fortunately back in the party's direction. He needed some form of antidote quickly. Although Humans, Elves, and the like all know about the cure for the effects of Gnome tea, it is very rare--and extremely expensive, worth quite a few Golden Guineas. This cure is extracted from the petals of the Purple Rose, itself a rare find. The thorns & petals are brewed in the freshest water possible. Would Targos hold the answer to Marcus's troubles, too? |

Maxwell heard wild screams from the road ahead: "Sounds like Marcus is in trouble! We have to help him. Hahgh!" Maxwell galloped his horse forward, and the party followed. They found Marcus on the road, spinning and weaving and swinging his sword against an unseen opponent. He had a strange look in his eyes, and his cheeks were turning pale green. He seems oblivious to the party's presence. Farnham said: "It could be the Drow again, playing with his mind. Micheal, can you detect any magic spells in the area?" |

Michael used Detect Spellcasting but he couldn't find anything magical, "I don't detect anything from the arcane or divine arts". Could this be the effects of gnome tea? |
