<GM's Note: No, it's OK. Tem's powers follow the generally accepted RPG psionicst powers, and the concept of ethereal projection is well established in the fantasy-adventure fiction genre.>

The Drow Mage/Psionist answered Tem's challenge by psionicly projecting part of himself into the ethereal plane. Once there, he etherialy assumed the form of a cockatirce. Tem wasn't sure if this was some sort of psionic illusionary projection, or if it reflected the magic abilities of the Drow Mage. In any case, this Drow seemed to have shrugged off the psi-bolt Tem had sent at him.

Meanwhile, back in the Material Plane, the remaining human archers (the ones that didn't break and flee yet) let loose with their bows, only to find that the Drow Mage had some sort of magic around him that deflected arrows. Seeing that their arrows had no effect one of them cried out: "Auh, drat. We're all going to die." This reflected their general mood, but they continued to load their bows and fire at the mage anyways. It didn't really help.

Just then, Captain Sealem gave a hand signal to his swordsmen, and they started to climb up their ropes to the top of the gate. Maxwell was through the gate, and looking around he saw the Farnham running toward him with Marcus and Acedia close behind. Maxwell was sure this was his brother, and not another impostor. Maxwell looked around, and he saw what had become of Mister Smith. He saw that the archers were panicking, so he said to them: "How do we get up to the top of the walls?" One of them replied "Smith had the key to the gatehouse stairs, but he's turned to stone now along with the key!" Maxwell replied: "Quickly, show me where this lock is, and we'll break it off. Now move, man!Move!"

When Drek saw the arrows bounce off the Drow's magic, he yelled out, "Tem, Michael, see if you can get that Dorws shield down!" He then started to follow Sealem and his troops up the ropes.

Marcus ran ahead of Farnham and leapt up the ladder. He was very careful not to get into the Drow's line of sight--or, rather, thought.

Prosper didn't have to think long, for he could see that the Drow Mage (who was now apparently transformed into a mythical beast of some sort) was being desperately assaulted by Drek, Captain Sealem, his the elven Swordsmen. They were all hacking at it with their swords, but their blows were not having the desired effect. Scales and feathers flew everywhere, but they were'nt drawing any blood. The Mage.. er.. chicken? Cow? Whatever it was.. it wasn't paying any attention to them... it was as if it was asleap, but it's eyes were fully open and it twiched every now and again.
Prosper felt a tingle around his neck. The Amulet... the Amulet the Suldeneselarian Emperor had given him to protect him from Drowish Magic.. it was tingling and glowing with a pale blue light. Prosper could feel a comforting sense of peace enveloping him. He felt as if his mother were there, wrapping a blanket around him and holding him close... which was odd because his mother certainly wasn't there and he was wearing elven finery and eleven chain, not the rough beggar's blankets his mother had wrapped him in before she died. Suddenly, Prosper realized that he might be able to kill the Mage by himself if this Amulet was protecting him from Drow magic... Drek and the elven swordsmen couldn't hurt the bad guy because it was protected by Drow Magic, but if this Amulet made Prosper immune to that kind of magic, maybe his weapon could pierce that magic! It was worth a shot...

Meanwhile, Micheal had moved into a position where he had line-of-sight on the Drowish Mage. He could see that's it had polymorphed itself ionto a Cockatrice, but it wasn't attacking the Elves who were in hand-to-hand with it. Micheal cast Anti-Magic Shell on the Drow Mage, and suddenly the Cockatrice effect and the anti-weapon protection were gone.

In the ethereal plane, Tem saw his opponent suddenly turn back into a Dark Elf and cry out in psychic terror... and then vanish back to the ordinary world. In an instant of real time, (but an infinite moment of ethereal time) this left Tem with an open 'door' into the Drow Mage's mind. Tem could literally take a walk inside the mind of his foe, and so he did. The plans of the Drow that this Mage was privy to were laid bare, his plots, his schemes, his deceptions.. all this became known to Tem... and then the Drow died and Tem was flung back to his own regular existence.

As Micheal's Anti-Magic shell canceled out the spells that the Drow Mage was sustaining, it gave the swordsmen free opportunity to hack into the real body of the Drow Mage. Since they had beeen swinging at an aparantly invulerable mythic beast a moment before, they accidentaly cut the Drow Mage to a dozzen tiny pieces before they even realized what was happening.

At the same time, Mister Smith (the leader of the town watch that had been turned to stone) was returned to life. He immediately collapsed, unconscious but alive, on the cobblestones.

A shout of "Huzzah!" came up from the Elves and the Town Watch archers alike, and the Party Members were acclaimed as heroes by the townsfolk who had witnessed the clash. Surely, they all said, these brave souls had saved the town from the evil of the Drow! The Mayor came out to thank them and pinned medals on each of them, and the Sherrif pledged to support their quest to slay the Dire Wolf.

Under these circumstances, someone convinced the Herbalist to donate his services free of charge, and so he delivered unto Farnham a package of special belts made from an exotic hide that he said would make the wearer immune to the paralyzing stare of any Dire Wolf. There was one belt for each party member plus one for Captain Sealem and his men.

After Mister Smith had recovered and woken up, he revealed that he had been under a spell that forced him to comply with the Drow's requests, and prevented him from revealing what was going on to his men. When his men were confronted with the sudden appearance of High Elves in Elven Chain brandishing Elven Longswords, it had a dual effect: It distracted the Drow Mage enough that his spell-control over Smith's mind weakened enough that Smith could question his master in hopes of buying time, and it gave his men pause so that they wouldn't blindly follow orders anymore (apparently, they had been told that they were being mustered out to arrest a band of brigands who were masquerading as merchants & travelers). Micheal examined the residual magic in the area, and it confirmed that Smith had indeed been under some sort of mind-control spell. Tem did an ethereal/astral examination and he too saw evidence that Smith's mind had been tampered with.

I appreciate the effort, Sarge, but there are a few things wrong with this.

1: Acedia ripped her dress on purpose with a knife so she could ride a horse more effectively. She did this quite some time ago. I was assuming you knew that, which is why I didn't say her name at first.

2: I'm not helping her pick up her trinkets, I lost my necklace that had a ring on it. We just happen to be in the same situation concerning our belongings.

3: We are in this predicament becuase we ran straight into each other when Marcus, Farnham, and Acedia were exiting the inn. That's what caused us to drop our valuables, a head-on collision.

Last but not least
4: The only thing my character cares about right now is finding that ring he dropped! He isn't interested in Acedia at all. In fact, he was afraid that in the confusion, she would pick it up among her own trinkets.

Side Note: I was hoping that Acedia, because of her eye for trinkets, would notice my character's ring and get curious about it. For the record, I want to describe what the ring looks like myself, but I need the proper story instance to do so.

*Sigh* I'm sorry I caused this much confusion, Sarge.

Time : Just after we ran into each other.

Acedia was a bit too preoccupied trying to pick up her transformation amulates to answer his question. After she thought she had picked them all up, she noticed a strange ring on the ground. She picked it up and stared at it for a few moments out of curiosity. The "Ice-Delivery Guy" then snatched the ring out of her hands and ran to his wagon. Without so much as a "thank you", he spead off to finish his delivery route. "That was a close one" he thought to himself. He decided to have his horse run faster than normal that day, he had a other places to deliver ice and a lot of work to do if he was going to make his late afternoon and evening deliveries on time.

Selem replied: "Young Master, my lord Emperor's mages, spies, seers and his contact with the Those Who Dwell Above have all given clues to how the Drow escaped their imprisonment beyond the Great Seal Of Ashelkon, but if he is privy to a definitive answer to how they did it, he did not deighn to breif me so. The consensus among the Dwaven Lords who dwell near Ashelkon is that the Drow did not break the Great Seal at all, but rather that they have taped a new source of power that allows them to bypass the Great Seal's power entierly. Our high-mages can neither confirm nor disprove this, as no known mortal magic can see past the Great Seal.

The human High Druid of Kuldurhar, Entran The Seer, sends word that The Oakfather tells him that the Drow's matron may have made a deal with an powerful entity from the lower planes, but he refuses to go into specifics, saying that when The Oakfather wants to reveal more of this to us, he will do so through the child Prosper. My lord the Emperor believes Entran, not merly becasue The Oakfather has spoken truth through Entran in the past, but also becasue the Drow seemed to specificly want Prosper for something when they kidnaped him from your adventuring party, Young Master. We have chosen not to reveal this to Master Prosper at this time, for it seems that The Fates have a hand on him and the High Seer councils that we must let him find his own path in this or we risk upseting a delicate balance of forces. It seems that Prosper has been taped by Fate itself, Young Master.

The the High Lords of Suldeneselar are mustering their troops and preparing their defenses as we speak. they have not closed the border for they do not want to star a panic, but they have restricted airship trafice once again.

His Majesty's brother Semthas, Earl of the Crying Spire and Lord Defender of Ashelkon, has embarked on a secret quest to the far east to seek an divining orb known as the Eye Of Rann. I only tell you about it becasue your father specificly told me to find you and tell you on the advice of the High Seer. The Eye of Rann is an artifact of great power from before the time of the name-givers, and is supposedly a divine power unto itself, fabled to be able to see past even the Great Seal. His quest is complicated by the fact that only a High Druid could use it, and since there hasn't been an elven High Druid is six thousand years it is doubly imperative that we maintain good relations with the humans. Even if Thurkran does not succeed in his quest or if the Eye turns out to be worthless, we will still need Entran as an ally and Skarae Brae as a partner. These are desperate times.
"

<GM's Note: A "Seer" is one who speak with the gods... reliably or not. Some 'seers' really do commune with the gods, but most are just very into several available herbal concoctions that will give one a very plesent set of halucinations. However, the High Druid of Kulduhar is famed across the realms, much like the Oracle At Delphi was in ancient Greece. However, the location of Kulduhar is a secret. The legend goes that if the Oakfather wants you to find Kulduhar, he will guide you there with a eagle, a bear and a rabbit. Otherwise, you'll never find it. Various combinations of eagle-bear-rabbit have shown up in ancient myth and recent legend alike, lending credence to the story.

A 'Druid' is one who invokes divine magic much like a Cleric does, but Druids do not worship a specific entity. Rather, Druids seek to embrace a concept they call "The Ballance"; That is, they believe that all things are part of a greater whole, and that everything in nature seeks to be in 'Balance' with every other thing. "The Oakfather" is the personification of this 'Balance'; It is an Entity that only seeks to put things back to their natural order, but it rarely intervenes in mortal affairs. It has been known to ally itself with gods and heroes from all over, regardless of their alignment, when it deems a situation to have become 'unbalanced' in some way.

The language of the Elves is called "Speretheil" or "Sperathili" (there are two distinct dialects, but each can understand the other). It is unintelligible to most humans, as it's roots are not common to any of the Human tounges. However, Speretheil can be learned by many races; it's just very hard to do and since most people are illiterate, only the nobles and the emerging merchant class have enough space time and spare coin to be able to afford to teach their sons and daughters another language. Maxwell and Fanrham know a few phrases in it due to their trading/merchant background, but they're not fluent in it by any means. Ask them what a specific gemstone is called in Speretheil, and they might know the word, but otherwise they don't have a clue about the language.

The Great Seal that Captain Sealem refers to is the magical contruct that was used to imprison the Drow many thousands of years ago. Since then, the Elves have retreated as their power wanes, and they have lost the ability to re-create such a construct. the Crying Spire was created to keep watch over the Great Seal. It is a massive tower of ivory and marble that stands enternal watch over the place where the entrance to the Great Seal was burried. The Dwarves mined for Gold and Mythral in the area, but by agreement with the Elves they did not disturb the seal in exchange for a defense treaty with the Crying Spire. The Dwarves paid the Crying Spire in gold, and the Spire protected the Dwarves from barbarians and trolls and all manner of threats for ages, and now the Crying Spire is but an outpost of Suldeneselar in the middle of Dwarven lands.>

<GM's Note:
A quick explanation about the Ethereal Plane: The Ethereal is a plane of thought. Literaly everything there is projected from the thinking mind of a living being. So, it is a place where anything can happen. However, things that happen on the Ethereal plane can sometimes "bleed over" into the real world. Some creatures can even be "dual natured": They can view events in the real world and in the ethereal world simultaneously. Tem's people have developed the ability to bring pieces of the Ethereal plane to the Prime Material plane for brief periods of time. They can even sustain the thoughts behind the objects they bring back even after the entity that "thought up" the object no longer exists. However, due to the fleeting nature of the Ethereal, eventually such objects will vanish, often when nobody is looking. The maximum time such an object will remain intact depends directly on it's size: the larger it is, the shorter it's stay in this reality and the harder it is to bring back.

This scroll will likely remain just long enough for the party member to read it, and then one day when someone goes and looks for it it will have mysteriously vanished.>

The scroll literally is a campaign plan. It details where the Drow are mustering, what their aims are, and where they have based their operations. According to the scroll, the Drow have a base in the jungles of Chult. Chult is a savage land, covered by jungle and inhabited by savages and monsters. No civilized people currently claim the land as their own, but in ancient days the Drow had a major city there. Apparently, they have now made a base in it's ruins of their former city. From the jungles of Chult, the Drow have begun to move terrifying beasts and monsters out into the civilized lands in a campaign of terror in order to spread fear and to disorganize anyone who could oppose them. They have also been taking great pains to conceal their actions from the High Elves, but after their slaving/mining operation was somehow uncovered recently, they have abandoned this aspect of their plan and have decided that soon they will begin to operate openly.

The scroll lists the current surface-troop availability of the Drow as 50,000 with about half that number currently engaged at the main base, with other spread out at minor bases or otherwise operating in secret.

The scroll makes no mention of how the Drow managed to escape their imprisonment below the surface world, but it does make frequent mention of something called 'The Stone' which is apparently a powerful Drow-made artifact responsible for the Drow being able to operate in daylight. Without the power of this "Stone" they would be effectively blinded in direct sunlight, especially in the blindly-white snow-covered lands.

The scroll details the Drow's master-plan: To capture and sacrifice one special member of each name-giver race, each one a "Touched By Fate" individual, and thereby to win favor with the Spider Queen, Lloth, who is the death of all who live. The Spider Queen will then user her power to open a portal to her realm, where their brother-drow from another reality will assist the Drow of this world in conquering the world and wreaking revenge upon the High Elves. Nearly all the special members of each race had been captured, but recent events have thrown the plan into chaos. Somehow, the High Elves uncovered their plan and freed their slaves who were holding three of the special sacrifices. As this Drow-Mage was the one that initially identified Prosper as one who is "Touched By Fate", he was tasked with recovering Prosper. Thus, he set about to eliminate those who could defend Prosper from him, but time and again his plans were foiled... until he met an undignified demise at the hands of some lucky buggers who somehow got through his spells. In the brief moment of retrospect available to him before his mind stopped, he notes that he "Should Have Killed The Mage First, Not The Archer!" The record ends there.

So, um... Tem's got a ethereal scroll that spell out the plans of the Drow... and he said something about it. Which some of you might want to look into.>

{}{}{ Sorry guys! x-x School started, medical complications arose (and if you really care to know, PM) and I just got away from here for a little bit. I don't mind having Acedia being temporarily controlled - it saves messing with the space-time continuum.

Thanks for calling Acedia pretty though, Sarge. xD Even if the post is now null. }{}{}

Acedia, having bumped into the iceman, was considerably behind 'The Group' - those amulets can be right tricky at times. Occasionally they don't want to be tangible, which makes picking them up an interesting physics problem.

But I digress. Acedia, after having regathered her belongings, nodded/mumbled a brief 'excuse me' to the iceman (who had left halfway through the first syllable, but that didn't seem to faze her), and hurried out of the tavern. She found the group again, babbling out a half-coherent apology for not being there. It didn't matter.

"What did I miss?"

Marcus climbed a few steps down the ladder.

"Yep...that's him. The magic man," he whispered to Farnham, "What do we do?"

<OOC: Huh? The drow mage is already dead, and if you're referring to Micheal... then why are you whispering?>

[OOC: Sorry bout that; I must have skipped those really long posts. Gah, I'm becoming as dumb as Marcus! D: I guess since there wasn't anything for him to do, I just forgot what happened. Kingly disregard the last post. ;)]

Marcus noticed Acedia. "Well, there was this bad magic-man, but Michael cast this magic shell, which allowed me and the swordsmen to slash up the bad magic-man. I got his leg!" The proud Lizzardboy held up the Drow's leg & took a bite. "And we got these belts to help protect us from the Dire Wolf!"

Acedia winced as Marcus took a bite of the Drow's leg. "You don't know where that thing has been," she said, obviously grossed out by the display.

"But that sounds like some kind of progress, the belts I mean," Acedia remarked, nodding a bit.

Farnham said: "Yes these belts will come in handy. See, according to the information Tem got out of the Drow's mind before it died, these Drow have been sending monsters all over the place to stir up fear. Must be the Drow that were behind the Dire Wolf in the first place. Perhaps they have used Dire Wolves in other places as well?
I suggest we all get a good nights's sleep here in the Inn, and then in the morning we hire a local guide to see us through the forests. There are no roads where we're going, and the forested hills are rather thick with trees. I've only been up there twice myself, and that was years ago. It's very easy to get lost out there in the wilderness without an experienced guide."
