Marcus spotted Michael from a distance. What's he doing all the way over there?, Marcus thought. Why won't he join the rest of us? He's a great magician! |

Michael was thinking about the drow and if the group was able to defeat them. He decided to stop thinking and be social and came up to the group. "Sorry about that just thinking about things like the drow" said Michael. |

Acedia nodded. "I'll be right back." She turned on her heel and headed back into the inn. Once inside she flagged over the bartender/innkeeper. "Excuse me, sir, I'm trying to meet a friend and I suspect they have rented a room here. Might I get a look at your guest book?" { I don't want to control the innkeeper. o_o } |

"Don't worry about him, Michael!" Marcus smiled. "We can beat him, and the Dire Wolf!" The Lizzardboy put his hand faithfully on Michael's shoulder. |

"I'll see if they've signed first," Acedia said decisively, flipping through the most recently filled in pages of the book. Taryn only went by a few pseudonyms, so if she had actually signed a name, one of them would be in this book. Around halfway down the page, scrawled over two lines in a downward diagonal, was "Kinney Shessing" with a check mark and a two next to it, indicating payment for two nights. So Taryn was here. That much was known. The question was, under what guise, and whether she was in the building at all. But, as they say, the eyes have it. The surefire way to tell a spectre from an ordinary person is to look at their eyes. The spectre will do all it can without giving itself away to keep you from seeing its eyes - make distracting hand gestures, wear bright clothing, walk behind you, or even simply cover their eyes with a curtain of hair or in the shadow of a hat brim. The reason is because a spectre's eyes are always pupilless - regardless of what form they take. Occasionally they are also luminescent, but only in certain cases (feeling extreme emotion, sleeping, possibly while drunk and while in its death throes). As the bartender was now otherwise occupied, Acedia quietly set the book down and proceeded to scan the inn/tavern's patrons, trying to look specifically at their eyes. |

<OOC> I've changed my plans a bit. My character will be available for a little interaction a bit early, but full disclosure will happen some time after dusk as was originally planned. Given the fact that you all had an award ceremony and such, I'm going to assume that it is about 2:00-3:00 PM.</OOC> Then the Ice Delivery Man from earlier that day came through the door. This was a bit unusual for him, as he would normally be in his house at this hour, presumably making the ice somehow. "Well, look at what the cat dragged in" said the Barkeeper "I haven't seen you out in broad daylight for months." "Yeah, I'm a bit surprised myself, Sam, but this does seem to be a day full of surprises" the young man said. "I know what you mean" Sam replied "What with incident at the gate and those elves and other strangers that showed up out of no where. Say, aren't you supposed to be doing whatever it is you do to make all those Ice Blocks?" "Yeah, but I gave myself some of the day off" he said "Don't worry, your shipment isn't one of the ones I cancelled. I wouldn't do that to my best costumer, would I?" The Barkeeper grinned and said "No, I don't suppose you would. As long as you are here, what can I do you for?" The Ice Delivery Man thought about this for a moment and said "Well, I'm not going to be around for too much longer, so I guess I'll just have some Grapejuice and a loaf of bread." As he reached for his sack of coins, the Barkeeper said "Oh, don't worry about that. I'll just put it on your tab till you come back later." "Thanks, Sam" he replied "I'll just go sit at that table." He pointed to the table in the corner of the room. Incidentally, that table was just a few feet away from where Acedia was standing and was in her direct line of site. When he sat down, he began to contemplate the events that had taken place just a few hours earlier. He took out his ring and stared at it in his hand. "Elves..." he said to himself "... After all this time..." He continued to gaze at his ring as if lost in thought.

{ You have mad MSPaint skillz. } Acedia's scan of the room ended at the table where The Ice Delivery Man was sitting. His ring caught her attention again. However, she did remember what she had to do, and turned her attention to the other patrons. Of course, it figured that Taryn was sitting at the bar the whole time. Acedia decided not to dwell on how she possibly could have missed her friend - and in such familiar clothes! Acedia ought to have recognized /something/. Ah, well. At any rate, there she was, seated at the bar, sipping at something. It was either ale or coffee and anyone's guess either way. She was making idle conversation with some weary traveler or another, half-listening to his stories of, ahem, valor. A midnight blue cloak wrapped around her was probably what threw Acedia off - she'd acquired it only recently. The cloak did wonders to hide Taryn's highly impractical ensemble of choice, with far less of an expenditure of magical energy than was required to keep up a glamour - all she had to do with this cloak was keep a glamour over her hair, as its natural color would certainly draw unwanted attention. Acedia approached the cloaked woman and plunked herself down at the bar next to her. "Hello, old friend," she greeted. "Hmm? Acedia! What on earth brings you to Targos?" "It's a long story and there will be plenty of time for the telling later. Right now I need to ask you a favor." "Well, I do owe you one. What is the favor?" "I need you to help me and a few other people through the wilderness - we're on a quest, you see, and--" "So you've taken up questing then." "Yes, and I need--" "You need a guide, then." "Yes, and--" "And you think I'll help you, because I'm your friend, and therefore will also require no payment for my services." "Well...yes, I was sort of counting on that." "Who all else is in this group?" "Two gemsmiths, an elf, a mage, a young lizard-man, and a High Flayer." "Hmm. I could have fun on this trip." "Please? We just need a guide. As long as you can get us where we're going without killing us, I don't care what you do to them." "Aw, but that spoils it." Sigh. "Alright, I'll help you. But can't your elf take you through the wood?" "Yes, but two heads are better than one, after all. Come and meet the group." Acedia and Taryn started back toward the group from the inn. |

Captain Sealem and two of his men walked in just then. They were cloaked in green Elven Cloaks, with their weapons hidden beneath. The two men took up positions on either side of the bar, with their back towards the wall, keeping a watchfull eye. Captain Sealem sat down next to Prosper, between Prosper and Maxwell. "Hail, brave ones. I bear good tidings, but also tiding that are not so good. The King of Skarae Brae sends word that he is dispatching a number of troops to this location. That's the good news. The bad news is that the local rangers are reporting that Orcs have been sighted in numbers larger than usual for this time of year. What's more, they appear to be organized into something more than the chaotic bands they usually are. This could be just a random spike in their numbers, or it could be something more. I prefer not to speculate, but it seems prudent that we arm ourselves with this knowledge before we set out, and so I share it with you now." |

Marcus's eyes widened. This is the kind of action I've been waiting for! "I'll help you take on those Orcs, sirs! Marcus Donaldson's the name!" Sealem looked at the young Lizzardman and said: "Ah, yes.. I'm sure your sword will be most.. effective... against these Orcs, Marcus; But, I do not lead your group. That, I believe, is the province of good master Farnham and good master Maxwell, yes? My Imperial Lord did command that I keep Master Prosper safe, and since Prosper insists on venturing with you all after the wolf-fiend, I must consider it my duty to join in your quest. So, you see, it seems that my men and I are, as you say: "in for a penny, in for a pound"... that is the correct expression, isn't it? I confess I have had scant time to acquaint myself with the majority of popular human sayings. My apologies if it is in error." |

<GM's Note: Um Marcus IS the Lizzardboy. Gonna assume you meant Maxwell.> Maxwell said: "We'll probably run into these Orcs sooner or later. Might as well be sooner. We could scout out their lairs and clean them out while we hunt for the Dire Wolf. Take the fight to them, so to speak." |

However, she did remember what she had to do, and turned her attention to the other patrons... <OOC> Well, I tried to set up a conversation, but it seems as though Acedia isn't curious enough about my Ice or my ring to let it distract her. *sigh* Oh well. I suppose not knowing what the other characters will do next is why this game is fun. Oh, and about my "skillz", thanks .</OOC>
The Ice Delivery Man was shocked when he saw Elves inside the Inn. He could hardly believe what was happening. He had often wondered about his heritage, and there was a potential answer standing before him. But what would he say? How would he introduce himself? How would they react? Would they accept a him as one of their own or shun him for what he was? He was partially given comfort by the fact that they could not recognize what he was. Except for his ears, he did not look Elvish enough to stand out in the crowd. He was wearing his Tricorn hat, so his ears were properly hidden at that angle as long as he kept his head tilted forward a bit. The first move was his. What that move should be or if he should make a move at all was the question at hand. |

"Well, ah, you weren't kidding when you said you were a bit unique, Acedia," Taryn remarked, after looking at each group member in turn and probably making harsh judgements in her mind. "I never said that." "You wanted to," Taryn said pointedly. "Point?" "Nothing. You've just got eccentric taste in friends." "You befriended a dire wolf, courted a werewolf, and have owned a restaurant alongside a fire deity, and you say I have eccentric taste in friends?" Acedia crossed her arms. "...Yes." Acedia then decided it would be a great idea to introduce Taryn to the group. So she did.

{ Well, I lose out on a bucket of cheese. Darn. o_o } "You know, Tem, a person's mind is their innermost sanctum. It's a bit rude to violate that without warning. I'll trust you to stay out of my head in the future, unless the rest of your adventuring party has a taste for calamari," Taryn replied coolly. "Besides, anything you'd find in there is misleading anyway." She did not elaborate on that last point. Instead, she took a sip of her drink that she still has because I say. |

Mexwell got up and offered Taryn a chair. "Greetings. You must be the friend Acedia mentioned. I am called Maxwell." Maxwell proceeded to introduce each member of the party individually. When he was done, he sat down. "I was given to understand that you are familiar with the nearby woods. If so, we would like you to join us in our quest to rid these woods of the Dire Wolf that lairs somewhere therein. What say you?" |

Taryn's face showed mild amusement at Marcus's enthusiasm. She thought it was cute, in the sense of "not taking it very seriously" cute, versus "adorable" cute. "There are no wolves, Marcus," Acedia explained. "I was simply pointing out Taryn's affinity for strange friendships." Taryn, ignoring Acedia completely, took the seat graciously and thanked Maxwell. When the introductions were through, she nodded. "Indeed I am familiar with that forest, and would be glad to lead you through it. Should this adventuring party not dissolve following the death of the dire wolf, I may decide to join you for your next objective, but as it stands my job is done as soon as that beast is in sight." |

"Perhaps," shrugged Taryn. "Though judging by his haste in going to see these...channelers...I'd have to say he'd prefer to stay tangible." She blinked a few times, and then turned back to face the remainder of the group. "What are your plans for the remainder of your journey? Do you intend to set off today or spend another night in Targos and leave in the morning?" top. of. the. page. dance. because i never get to.
