"Well, I'm spent with psipower. I need to meditate" said Tem,"I'll do it on the Ethereal plane. I'll leave my psipowerless self here. Suddenly, his aura seemed to get a little fainter."Don't worry. I'm perfectly fine. I'll have my powers back in an hour."

"Mister Bartender, sir? Can I have that meat now? With lots and lots of gravy?" Marcus hungrily pounded his clawed fist on the table.

Sam the Bartender replied: "Coming right up... here you are." Sam handed over a wooden platter filled with roast pork, smothered in gravy, and with a boiled potato the side. "That's our famous Grilled Garlic Gravy. If you want more, I can put some in bowl for you."

So, we'll get you some chainmail, a helmet and a wooden roundsheild; some good basic armor, and it won't be too heavy. I'll also get a pair of wooden swords I can teach you the basics with those before you move up to the real thing. Ah, here we are."
The pair had arrived at the local armory. Farnham said: "See if he's got something in your size."

"Hey, kid," Taryn said, speaking to Marcus. Although, addressing someone as 'kid' means she could be talking to anyone...it's not likely that anyone but those Elves were older than she. "Marcus, was it? You seriously don't want to touch that blue fire. It's a lot colder than you think it is - it caused /me/ pain to touch it, and that rarely happens. If you absolutely must touch it, I'm not going to physically stop you. Just consider yourself warned. And, if you do touch the fire, I'll laugh at you when we have to cut off one of your fingers."

Just a bloody ray of sunshine, isn't she?

<Alright, I'm back and all caught up. Thank you SO MUCH for putting up with me. I'll make it up to you guys by trying to be the best street urchin I can.>

During the fire incedent, Prosper had been resting in his room. Now he sat quietly, drinking his cider, musing over Marcus' unmasking. Prosper had barly known him, and his first impression certainly hadn't been good. And yet... Something told prosper that Marcus was good at heart, even if he was a little misguided. He turned to Sealam and said;
"I'll be over by Marcus."
The boy walked over to the lizerdman and sat on a stool beside him. He looked at the muscular reptile, trying to find good words to start a conversation with. Finally:
"Everyone seems to know your story exept me, would you mind telling it?

Marcus sighed, put down his yummy pork, and wiped his mouth with his thick arm. "I hate telling this story...ah, what the hey.

"My father was one of the highest priests of all us Lizzards. But one night, a shadow man killed him in his chamber. Been almost two years since I started looking for him. I met Mister Maxwell not too long ago, and if I can beat a Dire Wolf, I might be able to find that shadow man.

"So that's me story...what's your name again?"

[OOC: I wrote a formal character sketch of Marcus for my creative writing class. Here it is if you wanna read it.]

<Wow, you have some awsome writing skills>
"My names Prosper, remember? You met me as I was stealing loaves of bread. And then you told me...", Prospers voice trailed off. He had already said to much. He hoped he hadn't gone too far. He decided to change the subject.
"Well, I'll tell my story to you, it's not really that importent but you told me yours." Prosper took a drink of cider and said:
" I was born in Glenarbor, my mother was a poor washerwomen, and my father was killed at sea. I grew up in the streets, eventually I joined a small gang of boys. I was taught, to the dismay of my mother, how to steal, pickpocket, fight, and a many other things that a boy my age shouldn't have been taught. Well, an old, retired seman who had known my father eventually heard what kind of a young man I was growing up to be. He took me aside one day and we had a long talk, he taught me everything the father I'd never had should've; how to treat a woman, the importence of work, the blessing of friendship, and how to read another man. He was the closest I ever had to a father, and because of him I also began to listen to my mother and her teaching. I've held on to the words of both ever since.
Eventually the man died of age, and mother took to sickness and died. I romed the streets for a while but a rather dangerous quarral with another boy who was known for violence forced me out of the town. I then romed the country side, begging from farms and moving from town to town untill I came to the logging town you found me. I had been there two days and had turned up no generosity from begging. So I decided to steal, wich I hated myself for. Thankfully I didn't steal because you caught me." Prosper took a deep beath," And that is my story." he said.
<Whew! That took a while, but for anyone who wants to know my characters backstory, there it is.>

<OOC> A few things about my character may have been revealed, but the story of his life is still shrouded in mystery, some of which even he might not know. It looks as though you guys will have more exposition to look forward to. ;) </OOC>

"Ah, yes, I remember you." Marcus didn't pay much attention to Prosper since he was desperate to finish his plate. He could have had another two.

Acedia and Taryn had taken to quiet people-watching and listening, and had enjoyed both the curt summary of Marcus's life and Prosper's more descriptive tale. I said they liked stories, didn't I?

"Hmm. If we had a few hours to spare I might have told my own story," mused Taryn softly. What the /crap/ was wrong with her? It had to be the sake - she was /never/ this nostalgic. Ever. Then again, she was also /rarely/ around people so young, but when she was she hardly stopped to compare her own cursed longevity to the whirlwind of tragedy that seemed to define every youth she'd encountered in her many long travels.

And just as some part of her subconscious came to that very conclusion, she took a final swig and finished the bottle of sake and promptly forgot about it.

{ today's moral: never volunteer. *yawn* }

The Lizzardboy cleaned his plate and smacked his lips. "Mister, how's about a plate of beef?"

Sam the Bartender said: "We only have the one roasting spit, and there's a pig roasting on it right now, but I could grill up a steak for you over the fire pit out back. Let me check the ice house, see what I've got left for beef." Sam ducked out into the back room, and a few minutes later came back in. "Well, we've got a few Blade steaks, a bunch of nice cuts of Tenderloin, some Sirloin, and a pair of Chuck steaks. Blade steaks are 1 silver coin each, Tenderloin is 2 silver coins, Chuck steak is a Silver and 60 pence, and Sirloin is 3 silver. What'll it be?

Meanwhile, Maxwell was helping Eruantian with his armor. The main part consisted of a chainmail hauberk with a long, scale fauld. It also had pauldrons, vambraces, and greaves that were made mostly of hard, black leather. Over that, he had a navy blue tabard with no heraldry. The finishing touch was a bowl-shaped helm, such as was mentioned earlier in this story, that was comprised of metal and hard leather.

As Eruantian looked at himself in a mirror, he said to Maxwell "Well, this isn't so bad. I think I could get used to AAAAAHHG!..." After taking two steps toward Maxwell, Eruantian fell flat on his face "UMPH!... this..."

Prosper was relived that Marcus hadn't been paying enough attention to notice his blunder. He sat in silence after Marcus ordered another plate of beef. He wondered if he should leave or push a conversation. Just then Sam came back, and Prosper decided to wait till after Marcus had decided what he wanted.
Prosper turned his thoughts to the coming battle, to be perfectly honest he was terrified. He had been in a few street brawls before, with fist and dagger, but that had to be completly different from a tangle with large, bloodthirsty orcs who probably would be so enraged that they wouldn't feel the blows that hit them. He wondered where he could get some pointers on fighting.

"You seem nervous," Taryn said, pointing out what probably seemed to be painfully obvious to Prosper. "Worried about something. Scared, perhaps?" She tilted her head and gave him a "well?" look.

"They may not allow or expect you to fight, being so young," she continued, "so therein lies a smidgeon of hope."

Although, times have changed since my youth, she thought, deciding against saying so aloud.

Prosper decided that, considering his current mood, Marcus was not the best choice for conversation. He turned to Taryn;
"I am nervous, but I'm egar to prove myself to the rest of the group! I belive I have courage enough, but the skills are lacking."

Marcus overheard Taryn and Prosper. "I'm young, too! I'm only fourteen, but look at these muscles!"

Maxwell was rather amused: "Well, you're gonna have to get a little more used to it if you hope to end up in one peice. Come on, up we go." Maxwell gave Eruantian a hand up.
Farnham said: "I think he needs to get used to the additional weight."
Maxwell replied: "Really? I was thinking he needs to get used to moving around in chain mail."
Farnham said: "Yes, that too."
Maxwell said: "Then I suppose we'd better show him."

Maxwell and Farnham proceded to show Eruantian how to properly carry armor. Surprisingly, this involved a lot of falling down on Eruantian's part, but that was intentional: Maxwell wanted Eruantian to know how to quickly get back on his feet if knocked down.

Then, with wooden swords, they started to teach him the basics of sword fighting. First, they introduced him to the components of a sword. The pommel, the hast, the crossguard, the grip, the point, the blade: Maxwell drilled Eruantian to be sure he knew what each part was and what it was for. Then, Farnham and Maxwell demonstrated the basics of swordplay, and then had Eruantian leran from them.

Prosper smiled at Marcus' proud grin,"Well I'm pretty sure you won't have any trouble at tomorrows battle." He looked at Acedia and said;"Well, you've heard our stories, do you have one to share?"
He would've asked Taryn, but something told him that that was a bad idea.
