Since I haven't done one of these in awhile, and since I just came off the tail end of my other contest, here is the resurrected version of my Caption Contest! The judges and I spent quite some time trying to think of ways to INNOVATE this thing, but we all came up with nothing too good. So, here are the rules:
- 1) Every week, I'll post a picture from anywhere (that's right, no more mainly-Homestar images) that you must write a caption to. To help those who may not view the Forum as much as others, I will send out PMs (and instant messages, if I know your screen name) to notify you about a new round. If you do not post a caption for the round, then you will not be given a score.
2) The object of the game is to post the funniest caption possible for the image, so try to think a bit and be creative with your entries each round.
3) There will be twelve (12!) rounds in this contest altogether, so if you're going to sign up for this contest, then please make sure you have the time to post a caption every week for twelve weeks. If you have to drop out of the contest, then somebody else may join the game with the last place person's score if it is on or before the 6th round of the game. If we're past that, then nobody else may join the game.
4) I will allow twelve (12!) people to sign up for this contest. I will not accept anymore beyond that point.
5) Your captions have a 300-character limit to them. You can use a website like this one to calculate how many characters you have in your caption.
6) Your captions will be judged by three two people: Bug, Senor, and myself. We will rate each of your captions on a 100-scale (i.e. 1, 26, 51, 74, or 100), with 1 being horrible and 100 being excellent. I will average all three of these scores together for each person to get your overall round score (I will round up for decimal scores). Judges who do not PM their scores to me in a relatively-timely manner will not be counted for the round.
7) Your overall score for that round will add onto your overall game score. So if you got a 50 for one round, your overall game score would be 50. If you got a 43 the next round, then your overall game score would be 93. There will be no bonuses in this game, so your score is what it is (excluding maybe the final round, when I may think of something creative to do).
8) Please try to include the thumbnail to the image (which I'll provide at the start of every round) to your caption entry. Your caption should go below this thumbnail. You won't be given the death penalty for not including the thumbnail, but it'd really be appreciated to help out the judges. Also, please do not alter the image at all; use the one that I provide at the beginning of the round, and that's it.
9) Please try to write a caption for each round, even if you are in last place. Posting a caption each round is absolutely vital this time (unlike my previous versions of the game), since your averaged score for the round is how many points you get for the round.
10) If there are ties at the end of the game, then we may do a bonus round to differentiate the scores some. If we decide against this, then the tied people will simply tie in rankings for the game.
That's all of the rules that I can think of for now; if you have any questions, then please be sure to tell me. I may change the rules around a bit, but I'll be sure to either make a new post about it and/or place the revision in the Edit Log at the bottom of this post.
Since I'm lazy, and since the last prizes were fairly decent (though never awarded), one of the prizes this round will be trophies that can fit be part of either your avatar or signature! I'll probably make something else to go along with this prize, like some better signature ribbons or something. Here are the trophies:
