H*R Wiki Forum First Annual Stock Market Challenge 2008!!!!!

Greetings forumers, and welcome to the first annual HRWFSEC. My name-a Potates, and I'll be your waiter for tonight.
The name of the game here is to see who can make the most monies playing the stock market.
Of course, we won't be using real cash, we'll be using http://vse.marketwatch.com, a virtual stock exchange using fake money but real stock data. Winner gets a cool banner designed by me.

Here's how to get started:
1. Point your browser to http://vse.marketwatch.com and register for an account. Make sure the screen name you choose is the same as your forum username.
2. Once you're all signed up and logged in, link on the left of the screen that says "find a game to join."
3. In the box that says "enter game ID," type HRWikiForum (it's case sensitive).
4. It will ask you for a password. The password for this game is "twothousandandeight"
5. Now to buy a stock. Click on the "make a trade" link at the upper right.
6. Enter a stock symbol and press Go.
7. Enter the number of shares you want and press the "preview trade" button.
8. Confirm your trade.
9. Awesome. You're well on your way to either exhilarating victory or crushing defeat.

That's because the stock market is closed right now.
Unfortunately, just like the real stock market, this one is only open during the day on weekdays.

Well crap, I already messed up. I went back to change the number of shares I was going to own in something, and it reset a few other options that I originally changed.

Alright, today is Monday and the stock market is open for the week.
Currently, there's no clear winner. We actually have a tie for first: Disk, Noah, Raamis and I all are in the black with exactly $25,000. However, it looks like Pop_Tire and Color Printer have both lost money. Maybe it's time to rethink your stock choices?

The orders you place take about 20 mins to process. Also, early lead for me. Hopefully my stocks don't go down.

I bought shares in a company several hours ago (around 1 PM), as well as some pending ones a day or so ago. Neither registered.

One of them successfully canceled, the other is still pending and says that the duration is until canceled. Thats really strange.

That would be because just like in real life, making transactions costs money.
The money you made from your 3 stocks was less than the $9.99 transaction fee.
I.E. Next time buy more than 3 stocks.

Also, Gino, I looked at your Coca-Cola stock, and even though it said it went up, the price when you bought it was higher then the price today, meaning that you lost money on the investment.

Ya, green just means it went up, not that you made any profit. Dont just look at the colours.
